Title: NPC! <what game would you insert here>
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on April 19, 2009, 11:35:59 AM
This thread is about New Play Control and the games that you would like to see have them.
So far there has been; NPC! Pikmin NPC! Metroid Prime NPC! Mario Power Tennis NPC! DKJB
Coming Soon; NPC! Metroid Prime 2: Echoes NPC! Chibi Robo
But what other games o you think could benefit from NPC & which games do you think could use a second chance?
I'm immediately gonna suggest the original FFCC because of its ridiculous requirements just to play the game. Those requirements have a much higher chance of being met today if it used the DSx4 instead of the GBAx4 & link cable x4. Maybe even make it online enabled and call it a day. The game was asking for too much on the GC but with those tweaks it might become a playable and enjoyable multiplayer experience.

Here in the US we only have New Play Control! Pikmin and New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis. We get New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat on May 4. Europe gets New Play Control! Pikmin 2 on April 24 and NPC DKJB on June 1. Japan also has New Play Control! Metroid Prime and get both New Play Control! Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and New Play Control! Chibi-Rob! on June 11.
I think the obvious choice is Luigi's Mansion. I loved that game and it would work really well with the Wii Remote. I also want Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

Super Mario Sunshine. Pointer-controlled FLUDD and throw in Galaxy's camera, it would be a big improvement.

Personally I'd rather not see any and instead have sequels, but that's likely wishful thinking.
I wouldn't be surprised to see these games added to the series: 1080 Avalanche Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour Luigi's Mansion Kirby Air Ride Super Mario Sunshine Wave Race Blue Storm Star Fox Assault the Mario Parties (maybe in a collection)

Luigi's Mansion deserves a sequel but if Nintendo's making a new Mario I'd rather not see it incorporate the FLUDD, even though the pointer would benefit it. Really, though, fixing the camera is the more important part.

I wouldn't be surprised to see these games added to the series: 1080 Avalanche - Balance Board Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour - M+ Luigi's Mansion - Pointer Controls Kirby Air Ride - Balance Board Super Mario Sunshine - Pointer Controls Wave Race Blue Storm - Wii Wheel Star Fox Assault - Pointer Controls the Mario Parties (maybe in a collection) *all of the above*
I could see all of those being good additions using everything from the Balance board to M+ and in the case of Mario Parties, all of the above
Luigi's Mansion deserves a sequel but if Nintendo's making a new Mario I'd rather not see it incorporate the FLUDD, even though the pointer would benefit it. Really, though, fixing the camera is the more important part.
I just beat this game for the 1st time 2 days ago (been revisiting abandoned games from the GC lately). FLUDD sux and the camera was horrible. Sunshine is a black eye on the rotating 3d Mario head.

I completely disagree about Super Mario Sunshine. It was a very worthy sequel to Super Mario 64. FLUDD added a ton of great mechanics to the Mario series, the camera was OK (no worse than Super Mario 64). I think it is a better game than Super Mario 64 and one of the best games last gen. The great reviews from critics and very strong sales show I am not in the minority.

I enjoyed the game up to a certain point. My favorite parts where the secret levels. FLUDD was ok as an addition but was no reason to remove some of Marios previous capabilities, like the long jump. I put that game down about 4+ years ago and just picked it up again a few days ago. I didn't remember the button layout, so just played from what I remember(Mario64). I didn't realize I was only a few stars away from the end of the game, but it was a constant fight with the camera the whole way. It made me remember why I put this game down so long ago in the first place.
Its not a bad game, but it wasn't the sequel to M64 that we all hoped it would be. SMG was more than enough to make up for it though.

The problem I see from some people is that they were expecting a huge jump from Super Mario 64 the way SM64 was a huge jump from the 2D Mario games. Basically SMS was a evolution instead of a revolution. There was nothing wrong with it, it just wasn't the vast improvement that people hoped for.

NPC! Famicom Detective Club
It'll be a point-and-click adventure. What more do I need to say? :D

I almost put Eternal Darkness on my list, but I don't think it would happen. I believe the developer no longer works for Nintendo, and the game doesn't have mainstream appeal like the other titles people have mentioned.
Basically SMS was a evolution instead of a revolution. There was nothing wrong with it, it just wasn't the vast improvement that people hoped for.
I don't know what people were hoping for. The transition from 2D to 3D was the biggest thing to ever happen to gaming, and it is the kind of thing which happens only once a lifetime. We're not going to experience a revolution like that ever again.

Well these aren't nintendo's but what about: Indigo Prophecy
0% chance of that happening. The New Play Control! series is adding Wii Remote controls to GameCube games, Indigo Prophecy was never released on the GameCube.

Geist really didn't end up having that much shooting, so the poor control scheme didn't hurt it too much. I really only remember the final two boss battles being a pain due to the lack of a keyboard and mouse. Geist deserves a sequel more than anything, one which utilizes a lot more puzzles and in more elaborate ways.

My most anticipated game is Luigi's Mansion. The game's concept fits the Wii control scheme perfectly and the game is so underrated that it needs to make a return. Hell, a sequel would be even better!
Geist is also a game that needs a return. With tweaked controls it could finally be the polished experience it should have been.

NPC Mario Kart Double Dash would be pretty fun. I'd love to play through it again with the wheel. Luigi's Mansion and Mario Sunshine would be good picks as well. I never played Sunshine, so I'd definitely pick it up if it came out.

It started out fun but got tedious soon, might be related to the level design itself or the combination of some bad levels and the fairly fixed progression structure that the other 3D games didn't have, it turned into a chore about 30 stars in and I looked up what I had to do to get to the ending, did that (hm, there's 49 mandatory levels so that should've been a lot of work even if none of the 30 stars were secret so maybe I had a bit more when the chore feeling began) and never touched the game again. I played SMS before SM64 or SMG.

I'm getting old since I saw "NPC" and thought you meant non-player character and this would be an RPG thread.
What do I want to see? Uh, actual NEW games and not ports of Gamecube game I already own. Thank you.
Though I've always wanted to try Jet Force Gemini with dual-analog controls. It's so obivous that game was designed for that but instead we had to wrestle with using the C buttons. In all honestly I can't think of first party Gamecube games that had serious control problems. Nintendo was always VERY good at that. Pretty much every game mentioned in this thread is a game with near perfect controls already. Luigi's Mansion? Seriously? You didn't find the controls for that game to just fit like a glove? Super Mario Sunshine does have camera problems but that has nothing to do with the controls really. It's just Nintendo designing a STUPID camera and unless they completely overhauled that, mapping to the Wiimote would just make it a stupid camera using the Wiimote.

Hmm I would like to try out I-Ninja with Wii controls. I think that game will fit like a glove as a NPC game.

That would work better than the REmakeWiimake with a Remote-only scheme.
But Die Hard: Vendetta is more deserving.

You know what game would be awesome with Wii controls? Tetrisphere for the Nintendo 64. Using the IR pointer to move the cursor would add a whole new level of smoothness to the game, it would be incredible.
...No chance of ever happening I know, but I can dream can't I?

Its not necessarily about if the game had good controls, but more about what games could be easier to play or see a new level of fun with a new way of controlling the game. There are plenty of games out there that were perfectly fun the way they are, bt there are quite a few games that could use a second chance and/or would be even more fun with some new input methods. Like JFG, why settle for NPC! dual analog, when you could trump that with NPC! analog & pointer controls?

With the newest post in the rumor thread leading to conversation about a NPC Luigi Mansion (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=16688.msg579105#msg579105), I thought now would be a good time to revive this thread.
We thought that previously Nintendo said they were done with NPC, but with a lack of 3rd Party enthusiasm, it looks like Nintendo might be willing to revive the "GC 2nd Chance Program" and fill in some release gaps.
So what other games do we think would be a good fit for the GC 2nd Chance Program?
I know many are still waiting on NPC Pikmin 2 and now it's rumored Luigi's Mansion. What else?

I was just thinking after seeing that "hidden cost" thread, the MPTrilogy thread and posting in the rumor thread about double pack NPC games.
I assume the NPC games are released at budget prices of $29.99, but what if they pack-in 2 games for the price of one standard game?
Like NPC Pikmin 1 & 2 for $49.99 or NPC Mario Tennis & Mario Golf for $49.99 NPC Super Mario Sunshine & Luigi's Mansion $49.99
That way people can get more gaming for their dollar and Nintendo can continue to sell old software updated with minimal effort to new and old audiences alike.

The only two GameCube games I'd want are Pikmin 2 and Chibi-Robo. They are already a part of these re-releases, they just haven't come to North America... yet.
With the structure of Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and its meter swing system, it wouldn't translate to a Wii control scheme as it couldn't simply replace buttons with motions like Mario Power Tennis does. The swing engine would have to be built from scratch, and if they're going to do that then they might as well create a new game.
