Title: Nintendo to bail out World Economy... $5.3billion for FY 2008 expected
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on April 09, 2009, 09:11:36 AM

Quote
Strong sales of both the Wii and Nintendo's handheld DS player despite the global slowdown had led the company to expect a record 530 billion yen operating profit for the year that ended on March 31.
source: Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/article/internetNews/idUSTRE5380TB20090409)

530 billion yen = 5,293,067,053.44 USD

5.3 billion USD in operating profit...

Does this mean that Nintendo will buy some games to release in Japan?

God, I hope so. Nintendo now has the money to bribe support their way for a change. It would be a mistake to have made all this money and then squander it by not beefing things up.

And just to stir the pot a lil bit

Quote
With inflation:

SCE Operating Income:
1998: $ 1.275.940.000
1999: $ 1.446.400.000
2000: $ 905.200.000
2001: $ - 494.890.000
2002: $ 741.370.000
2003: $ 1.089.240.000
2004: $ 734.500.000
2005: $ 440.360.000
------------------------------
Total: $ 6.138.120.000

.
.
.
.

2006: $ 79.500.000
2007: $ - 2.087.140.000
2008: $ - 1.254.000.000
------------------------------
Total: $ 2.876.480.000

Nintendo has made in One Fiscal Year almost double what Sony has since 1998... chew on that for a minute.

I know there are those who think Nintendo should be handing out money hats for third party games...

...but isn't that the exact thing we criticized MicroSoft and Sony for doing the last two generations?

Disaster & Fatal Frame in the US...

Maybe publish, fund/develop or help advertise more 3rd party games?

they dont have to origami hats out of paper money, just do more with their money that translates into more games quickly.

Right.  Nintendo should just let the lame third parties die out and let the survivors prosper through merit.

That stock has been fickle the last few months.  Waiting for it to drop below $30.  COME ON WORLD ECONOMY, DON'T LET ME DOWN.

Hope some of that money is invested on research and development of the Wii2.

Uh, yeah, and I hope some of it is being used to pay their employees.

(Silly sarcasm aside, since this is operating profit, wages and R&D costs have probably already been deducted.)

The only thing not deducted(i think) are taxes and any rebates.

So you're saying they could have spent $100 on R&D for the Wii2 and that it's already been accounted for the operating profits of the FY of 2008?

I don't know if you noticed or not, but third party support on Nintendo consoles has been seriously lacking ever since the SNES era. If Nintendo starts handing out money hats, that would only help to balance things out a little. Because right now Sony and MS are getting all the 3rd party love, and this sucks for us who are missing out on Street Fighter IV and RE5 and Godfather II and so forth.

Its a sad thing if Nintendo has to bribe companies just to give their console the same support the other consoles receive automatically, but if that is the ONLY way to get those games....

I think Nintendo should use their new found wealth to buy the Sony corporation.

We are stuck with crappy third party efforts like Little King's Story, Conduit and Muramusa. Time to bail out Midway so we can get their classics rolling again.

Nintendo should have bailed out Factor 5 and made them a 2rd party developer.

I still want to know what happened to Factor 5 it seems odd that they vanished. Perhaps they were abducted?

Factor 5's address:

101 Lucas Valley Road
Suite 300
San Rafael, CA 94903

If anyone is near San Rafael I would appreciate some sleuthing work to see if the building is occupied by another business or shut down.

I haven't noticed because the best games are Nintendo games - they always have been since the NES days.  I know, I'm evil and hated, but I can spend $50 on a game that I *might* like or spend $50 on a game that I know will be good.

Did they ever get around to making slow characters less depressing in Gauntlet?
