Title: Nintendo auto-updating WFConnected Wiis?
Post by: Stogi on April 08, 2009, 11:12:30 PM
So a new homebrew came out today. It's an iso loader. The person that lets me know whats up about this kind of thing told me all about it. He also told me all about Nintendo AUTO UPDATING Wiis without asking for permission.

I have no reason not to believe him. Anyone here at NWR heard of this?

A little while ago Nintendo revised their privacy policy stating that they can indeed update your Wii system without notifying you. Actually, I'm not so sure if they update your system, as I believe they put it something like "check for and remove unlicensed software" or something.

EDIT: Beaten by an edit. Here are the goods from Stevey's link:

"We may without notifying you, download updates, patches, upgrades and similar software to your Wii Console and may disable unauthorized or illegal software placed on your Wii Console to ensure that your Wii Console is operating properly and efficiently, comply with applicable laws, assist law enforcement, protect us and our customers, or prevent the use and distribution of software obtained through improper channels."

Last firmware update I had to manually update it.  Damn wii wouldn't even let me know that the SD update was available.  And I'm using WC24.

They don't notify you of new updates until a day or two after they are released typically. I usually update my Wii right when the update is released and the first couple times I thought they had already released another one because I got the letter the day after D/Ling the update.

But I NEVER get those letters anymore.

Odd. Did you opt out of any Nintendo notification services? Did you turn off the WC24 option at some point? Is your power light red or orange when your system is off?
