Title: Nintendo/Taito game Wand of Magic
Post by: Stratos on April 02, 2009, 05:11:39 PM
Some of you may have noticed this game from screens at last years media summit. IGN just reported that it is going to be released in Japan this May the 21st.

Quote from: IGN
You hold the Wiimote like a wand and draw out shapes to perform magic. The game includes over 100 spells. In addition to casting magic, you also control a battle party, whom you direct on the battle field from an overhead perspective.

Looks a bit like Orge Battle to me except battles are real-time instead of going into a separate battle screen.

I also want to underscore that this is a 1st party game. This is one of the things that Nintendo has been working on that is new.

Nintendo made this? It must suck if NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT.

It looks like an RTS with okami like magic controls. Color me interested.

P.S. What's with the smileys in the screens? And you realize the first and last screen are the same, right?

I thought this game was related to LostMagic (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/reviewArt.cfm?artid=11371) for DS.  Are you sure it's a first party game?

Tact of NOT GETTLING LOCALIZED CUZ IT'S NON-CASUAL

My copy and paste commands are weird today. I don't think it is registering when I copy a new link because twice now it is pasting an old link I copied instead of the recent one I copied. Thanks for pointing that out.

IGN said it was 1st party.

It used waggle though, so casuals will love it! ;)

They misspelled "tact" so it must be good.

I'm just glad this isn't WiiWare, I might check this out if it is released in North America. Though if it is, I can see it topping a lot of "most-overlooked" lists.

GameFAQs info says it is developed and published by Nintendo. The title is also spelled as "tact" so who knows how accurate that info is.

When I did a search to see if a thread already existed here I found only one occurrence of each spelling so I went with IGN's since that was the most recent info I have seen for this game.

Color me interested.

I guess those icons are supposed to indicate a character's status. For some reason I can see a Mii taking the place of those smiley icons.

Where is the petition we sign to get this released in NA? Don't just assume this is going to come here, because many excellent games never did. The sooner we start pestering Nintendo about this the sooner something might get done.

Mother 3 shows that fans pestering Nintendo doesn't do squat to help a games chances of being localized.

The Mother series is barred due to legal issues. And the Winter one may have done something because nSpace has some publishers interested in the game now.

But I agree that most petitions online don't do much.

Don't write this up yet though. We may be getting this later this year. I'm would guess a Fall release depending on localization time.

What legal issues? I have never heard of any such thing. Nintendo owns the IP, they could release the games here if they wanted.

There are lots of refererences in the game to pop culture. Getting through those issues is a problem.

Anyway this game looks interesting. I'm going to have to check it out.

This article explains most of the why regarding no Earthbound, TJ Spike.

Do those issues only apply to Earthbound or do they exist with all 3 games?

Oh come now Pro, don't be so negative. It won't get localized because it doesn't suit Reggie's taste.

Well the SNES one was a loose remake of the NES 'Earthbound Zero'  if my memory serves me right so I'm willing to bet that the material is in all of the games. It seems to be a major theme for the series having a take on American pop culture.

I think that this game has a better chance of being released outside of Japan then certain other recent Japan-only exclusives. It seems it is being developed by Nintendo themselves so that always increases chances of world-wide releases. They'll probably release it during a month when they have nothing else to offer.

Just be glad this game isn't titled something like "Captain Rainbow" and features evidence that Birdo is male.

Both games do contain some of the same music so it is very possible that said music falls under the copyright troubles that SNES Earthbound faces.

This website helps allot to demonstrate the point. I can hear a similarity.

Onto the game itself, I never been a fan of writing stuff on screen .

So it is a Taito/Nintendo collaboration. Interesting. I like the looks of it in motion.

So is Wand of Magic the new name for it? I'll post the video on the first post.

Can you only post links to videos or can you directly place videos on the page in viewable form?

I think that might be the name for it in Japan. That footage is from the Japanese version of the game.

"Takt" is a horrible translation.

"takuto" (tacto) means wand/baton in Japanese.

Seconded. It looks like a spiritual Wii-centric version of Ogre Battle and I loves me my Ogre Battle.

No, it looks like a Wii version of Lost Magic which came out for the DS. Heck, the Taito Lost Magic team is developing Takt of Magic.
