The cake isn't a lie. It is counterproductive to the Balance Board's goals however.

whats with nintendo's portrayal of April Fools day as nothing but lies (this and Animal Crossing)?

Not all pranks involve lies being told to make someone out to be a fool.

I thought many jokes DID involve lies. For example, IGN's "Wii Expand" joke was a big, fat lie, despite having video footage of Bloody Brawl.

Its seems that the most basic April Fools prank is the one in which you say something shocking or unexpected, and when people fall for it that's when you say "APRIL FOOLS!". Even the most elaborate prank deals with some form of lie or exaggeration of truth.

The original April Fools Day actually is based off "lying" of a sort. Originally, the new year was celebrated on April 1, until the switch to the modern Gregorian calendar. People who had forgotten this change fell victim to false party invitations and such come April.

Mr Balance Board never lies? Maybe my wife can start asking him what he thinks of this dress with those shoes, or those earrings and this necklace, or whether I was really running late from a meeting last night because I'm long sick of answering.

I'm just surprised to see that somebody on the staff of Nintendo World Report still plays Wii Fit. I guess the game really does have longevity.
