Title: WW. Japanese version VS. The U.S. version ?
Post by: StRaNgE on April 13, 2003, 09:44:00 AM
I recall reading that in the  U.S. version something was removed from the game in a part that makes the game very tedious.
I am very curious as to what that part was exactly. Anyone here who as beaten both versions  recall a difference in what this change  was? Were there 18 pieces of the triforce instead of 8? Ha ha...

Also what  do you think of the change, was it needed or should it have stayed in as is?

When finding the triforce charts, you had to find a map, which led to a map, which led to a map, which led to the triforce chart, which led to the triforce shard for each of the triforce charts. I'm so happy they took it out, finding the triforce charts is tedious enough.

oh damn, that would have sucked  !
finding the map that leads to the maps which lead the the pieces of the triforce  bugged bad enough...

That would have been hell.

Glad they made that change them.

Yeah, I am quite glad they changed it as well.

That was only for one piece.  I haven't gotten to that part yet, but I've heard that in the US version they actually mark off the Triforce Charts when you get them which saves backtracking later on.  I have seen several minor things in terms of charts and enemy timing that relieve confusion and worlds of frustration.  For instance, at Forest Haven, you may recall that there are two Octoroks.  Well, in the Japanese version the second one was timed so that if you jumped straight across, you would be knocked off by the rock and get carried all the way back downstream.  The only way to avoid being hit was to jump and then hang from the cliff while the rock passed.  In the US version, the Octorok doesn't shoot until you're already on steady ground.

It sounds to me they just dumbed it down for all us stupid Americans.  (sarcasm). But I do agree with the tedious map thing.  I remember as soon as the boat told me what was next (the triforce collecting) I just groaned. It was almost as though I wish you had one more dungeon with the triforce completely in it instead of triforce shard collecting.  I would have enjoyed that better.  I guess the idea was to tie the game to the original with the 8 pieces.  Oh well, just babbling.

No, it's not a matter of dumbing it down.  The challenge is the same in most places, but spots like that were needlessly frustrating.

You have to climb that hill many times in the game.  If they had made doing it any harder, I would have been very frusterated.  I was getting grumpy as it was simply having to use my grappling hook every time.

I actually took a whole week off playing because of the stupid Tri-Force hunt. Last night I finally got all 8 pieces and started Ganon's Tower. I don't think I would have finished the Japanese version.

I suspect they were the Water Temple and the Fire Temple, to go with the Wind and Earth that you need to complete to do, er, something. (I don't want to completely spoil it.)
