Title: What DS games to buy?
Post by: kraken613 on March 31, 2009, 08:20:14 PM
I really want to play more DS games. The last DS game I bought was Phantom Hourglass. I own that, Mario Kart, Metriod Prime, New Super Mario Bros, Phoenix Wright 1, Brain Age. Now I got an extra $100 laying around I want to spend on just DS games.

What should I buy? I like pretty much anything.

If you like Tetris, try and find Tetris DS. I hear it's hard to find (I got mine shortly after it released) and it's great. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum are easily the best versions of Pokemon ever released and being able to trade online eliminates the need to have someone in person to play with. I haven't played Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, but Advance Wars: Dual Strike is an excellent strategy game.

Contra 4, but only if you have someone to co-op with. Any of the Castlevania games. Chrono Trigger (support Chrono 3!). The World Ends with You.

Games I'm looking forward to: Sands of Destruction, Phantasy Star Zero, and Metroid Dread (it's still coming....)

Super Mario 64 DS is a decent remake. It doesn't offer a suitable control replacement for an analogue stick, but because the game has been made easier it shouldn't matter.

You might want to try out Mario Hoops 3-on-3 too. The controls are creative but they don't work very well in execution; if I had the thumb strap maybe they'd have been better. It's the kind of thing you'll need to try out for yourself to decide. There is also a lack of game modes, and the Final Fantasy characters are overpowered and feel out-of-place, but the gameplay is still solid.

Those two and New Super Mario Brothers are all I've played really, besides demos. Though I'm still going to recommend Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, as if it is anything like the first game, it is pure awesomity.

M&L: PiT while a good game has some pretty big flaws, they tried to do WAY to much in regards to multitasking. Personally I'd wait for the 3rd game which seems to nail it.

So it isn't like the first game then? Well that's probably for the better since I've sold my DS and can't play it anyway. At least I know I'm not missing much.

Any of the two Advance Wars on the system.  Also, Meteos.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I am going to go to gamestop tomorrow and pick up some games for my 12 hour car ride to NYC!

Probably Chrono Trigger.
