Title: The Official Rhythm Heaven Thread
Post by: Stratos on March 25, 2009, 04:44:06 PM
Since we can run stuff from SD cards now, I went ahead and put it on my Wii again. The first things I noticed were the new Zelda trailer (a train?  ???) and a note that there was a Rythm Heaven demo offered on the service.

Just thought I'd share that for anyone curious about this game like I am.

I was looking for the Nintendo Channel topic to put this info in it but I went back 30 pages or so and couldn't find it. I guess we can turn this into the offical topic.

I was thinking about that myself. I looked back a couple pages to find either the Rhythm Heaven page or the Nintendo Channel topic but didn't find it either. Should I rename it to be the Nintendo Channel demo thread?

No there is actually a topic about DS demos. The Nintendo channel was in Nintendo console. It has been a while since it was updated. Just change this to the Rhythm Heaven topic. One of my recent Nintendo Power has an article on this game.I'll post the info when I get home.

How can you create a topic about Rhythm Heaven and fail to mention my infamous Rhythm Tengoku thread (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=16774.0)?  You should be ashamed.

I played the demo for Rhythm Heaven yesterday.  I really liked the first two "games".  I'm going to pick this up when it comes out.  :)

Well, it is over 2.5 years old.  It died long before you got here.

RHYTHM
In Heaven!

I played the demo and I just loved it! It's hilarious. The Glee Club one was great. I haven't smiled like this from a game in ages.

I played the demo on the Nintendo Channel, I wasn't too impressed to be honest. It seems alright, but not something I would pay $30 for.

It strikes me as a musical based Wario Ware.

I played the demo and how Stratos describes it is how I would sum up my feelings on it.
It is a pretty unique concept.

Exactly.  It is a pretty fun game.  I do not feel it is as complicated as many of the other music games, but I can see some of the games getting difficult, and you definitely play to the Rhythm of the game.  I beat you could play some of the levels blind.

This question is directed to the users who played the Japanese version and the English version: How does the English vocals stand up to the Japanese vocals? Better, same, or worse?

Watched a video on Youtube with the Frog Dancing game. Loved that song to peices. =D

It strikes me as a musical based Wario Ware.

That's because the game is made by the same team at Nintendo that makes the Wario Ware games.

Correct, R&D1 developed the GBA/DS/Wii Wario Ware games along with both Rhythm Tengoku/Gold. And the Metriod games outside of the Prime series... and I think they supervised Good Feel for Wario Land: Shake It.

Though I'm not sure on the last one. Might be wrong.

I bet you could play some of the levels blind.

This is true of almost all of the levels. Aside from the initial pass through to learn the controls, everything can be done by simply listening. As a matter of fact in some levels I HAVE TO close my eyes and play or else I can't do it. It's a pretty bizarre experience.

Overall, I'm enjoying the game thus far. It's very addicting and it's really quirky and unique. For someone like me I'd gladly drop $30 on it because these offbeat titles are right up my alley. Others may not find it quite as endearing, but the rhythm gameplay is definitely unique even amongst a sea of similar titles.

For those who have played the demo, keep in mind what was showcased there was only 1 of many mini games. You'll definitely be surprised by some of the cool ideas they came up with for the mini games.

I'm having some mixed feelings about this game. While I really do like it and find it addicting when I do get into it, being bad at a single mini game can really drag you out of the whole experience. Because you must beat each rhythm game one at a time, being bad at one game can make life a living hell for a while. It seems like unlocking 5 games at a time would've solved that problem pretty easily.

Score-wise, I'm currently leaning towards an 8. I'd definitely suggest against playing the game on an old Phat, since that's what I'm playing it on and I seem to be having touch screen issues due to poor recognition. Playing on Chessa's DS Lite has yielded some better results, but most people who are still playing on an old DS definitely won't have that option.

The blue birds game was killing me, but if you pay attention to the option in the bottom right, when your doing poorly, you'll see it blinking.  The Barista lets you skip a game if your doing real bad, when that happens.

BUMP FOR QUESTION TIME.

So this game came out last week. However, is it a game you can play in a public/noisy environment like the tube or the airport (or on the plane)?

It would be feasible. Though I'd recommend using headphones if you get distracted easily or have trouble hearing.

EXTRA BUMP. The hardest track is, by far, Lock Step. If i hadn't cut my hair yesterday i'd be pulling it out.

Lock Step gave me trouble at first, but all you have to do is follow the rhythm. When you go off-beat, tap twice quickly.

Too many games; too little time.

I finally opened and played Wario Land Shake It today (for the first time).  It's totally rad!

God I'm loving this game, such quirky visuals and music.  The 2nd challenge with the vocal lesson is my fav so far.

Is there no way to achieve a Perfect rank unless the game highlights one of the minigames with the message 'Go for a Perfect'? I only have a couple of Perfects, but several Superbs, a few of which I hit every beat in. Kind of annoying if it is, because those chances are rare.

My most favourite game at the point I'm at is Munchy Monk. Very fast-paced and keeps you on your toes with three potential inputs. Ironically, despite being my favourite, it keeps messing me up on Remix 4.

I enjoyed Munchy Monk.  My favorite, though, is Assembly Line, or whatever it's called.  The first game you play, as well as it's 2nd version.  It's a lot of fun, and I love how it sounds.  Also, lights out is sweet.
