Title: Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Post by: Khushrenada on March 25, 2009, 01:59:33 PM
No one has started a topic yet for this game? Then allow me to step in and fill the void by creating a topic for the game of the year 2010. I know, they said it would come out this year. We've heard that before on a Zelda title.
Still, it should be interesting to take a ride on the Reading Railroad and pass Go to collect 20 rupees.
And now I can have a Zelda Megathread.

I never did finish Phantom Hourglass. I should probably get around to it eventually so I can hop on board the Spirit Tracks train. So to speak.

PROS: A cell shaded Zelda with LAND! LOTS AND LOTS OF LAND! Finally! Hopefully It will have a much higher difficultly than PH too. Can't wait!
CONS: A train seem to be pushing the limits of Zelda world too far, before long we might have a Zelda with guns or spaceships... :-\ What's wrong with Epona?
Also, No girl link! or even a girly boy link! :'( Who would want to play as a manly engineer link?

Wasn't a fan of PH so I can't say I'm horribly excited for this one.

I thought the train thing was actually pretty funny.
edit: Notice the boss battle happens on both the top screen and bottom. Kinda cool.

i wonder other 'modern' things will be in the game. I am actually excited and curious about the game because of trains and fact it might not be same old middle ages type. CHANGE IS GOOD. The problem is I am not a fan of cartoon link, so I have no clue why they choose DS instead of Wii or even WiiWare.

I wasn't a terribly big fan of Phantom Hourglass either.
I don't mind the train. I like that Nintendo is expanding the universe because they were running out of ways to make the current formula fresh and exciting. They kind of killed the 2 worlds mechanic. Now, I'm not saying that a train is the "end all, be all" but it's something and I, at the very least, appreciate that Nintendo is trying something new.
Spirit Tracks is a totally lame title. I mean, I get it, but that doesn't make it any less lame. Link's conductor outfit is equally lame. Still, my biggest concern is that the gameplay looks pretty identical to PH which means they're following the same trend as before: minor updates to existing gameplay. I honestly didn't think PH's gameplay was good enough to carry over to a new game.

I really need to play Phantom Hourglass :-[

If there is an equivalent to The Temple of the Ocean King in this game, forget it. Otherwise, I'm interested in seeing where it goes even though I felt the play controls and new style of PH were subpar.

The temple of the ocean king is pretty much one of the greatest Zelda dungeons ever made. The internet is damn wrong about this and it just shows gamers are lame when they are up to an actual puzzle challenge. If people were dumb enough to do the same thing over and over is only their fault, because the dungeon was extremely well designed to use all your items and powers to save up time and get to the end faster and faster the more you progressed through the game. I simply loved the whole mechanic and it annoys me that all the complaints are going to make dungeons in future Zeldas completely stupid and non challenging.

Epona's services are no longer required. She can rest easy, graze, find a stallion, have children, etc. Not her problem anymore. ;D

I don't get the whole infatuation with Epona anyway. Sure, the horse allowed larger areas to be traversed and thus make Hyrule feel bigger but I'd rather have smaller but denser areas like in the other 2d games. In LttP you had stuff on almost every screen while in TP the fields were 90% nothing. OOT didn't even have the decency of giving you the horse before sending you back and forth over that gigantic void they call Hyrule Field, that's extremely tedious.
I agree with Mantidor on the Temple, it played different every time due to the item loadouts changing and occasionally additional enemy spawns. If it played the same for you you didn't use your items right or at least failed to map the things you couldn't use yet.
I don't get the whole infatuation with Epona anyway.
Same here, I never saw what was so great about Epona. Just a generic brown horse. I always thought Link should have some weird creature to get around on. Also, how big can they make the gameworld that you'd even need Epona?

They used a steamship in the last game. The technology isn't very different, one is on a track and the other is in the water.

I never care for this type of argument. It's fair to assume that whenever someone says they want something that they have some unspoken expectations about the details. If I order a hamburger at a restaurant and they give it to me overcooked on a stale bun with nothing else on it, sorry, you can't say "well that's you wanted, pal." I shouldn't have to specify that the burger be prepared in some conventional manner and taste good and such.
No one who wants steampunk Zelda was talking about cartoony Link opperating a choo-choo in his pajamas in a world that otherwise appears to resemble the standard fantasy Zelda style. I don't even have a problem with the train but to call it steampunk is insane. It doesn't meet the expectations that one should not have to specify. I personally would like to see a Zelda in a different era of technology but if they do they should do it full-blown and not just introduce one element that looks a little out of place.
To be fair though the Zelda world has had bombs in it from day one. It's not completely out of character for steam engines to exist. The telephones in Link's Awakening are much more out of place.

TP's Spinner was far closer to steampunk than a simple train. Plus, in Zelda you never know what weird magical power is behind the mundane looking technology (though it's typically fairy abuse; maybe the train engine is full of fairies on hamster wheels).

Link needs to catch fairies and grind them into fuel for his train. He shovels fairy bits into the engine like coal.

Thats why I'm saying thats the direction the games, as a whole, are heading, sorry for the confusion.
Of course spirit tracks is a far cry from regular steampunk, but people were delusional if they were expecting Nintendo to jump right into a convulted world for their traditional, "all audience" franchise.

Who was expecting that? People just want something new and if handled correctly, it could be great for the franchise. Eventually, Hyrule has to evolve technologically among other things? What's wrong with exploring that?

Well in a recent interview with Miyamoto that was linked to on another part of the forum. This game is going to be more challenging than past Zeldas.
Sadly that is not saying much. Most of the previous Zeldas were relatively easy. The last one I recall actually having serious issues with was Link to the Past's final boss and The Ocarina Master Quest if you count that.
Title: Re: Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Post by: BeautifulShy on November 03, 2009, 08:56:40 PM
Were they easy because of the experience you've accumulated over the years or was it something else?
Title: Re: Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Post by: Stratos on November 03, 2009, 09:01:19 PM
That may be part of it. Because I can play through the original Ocarina without dieing once and have virtually every item's place memorized and I find Master Quest to be very challenging. So it may just be that my familiarity has given me an edge.
Though Hourglass seemed especially easy... and cliched as far as Zeldas go.

Haven't tried HourGlass yet. My DS library is small compared to the Wii. I may have to try Hourglass.
The only Zelda titles I have problems with is the 2 NES titles and the Oracle games.

I had some problems playing Majora's Mask when it first came out. I didn't engage my brain into using time and item management until I was much older.
Phantom Hourglass, I basically found, trimmed the fat off of some typical Zelda elements (dungeon map/compass) and overall was a very enjoyable game to play. I love it even more then my favorite portable Zelda game which I consider to be the greatest in the series: Link's Awakening.
And those who say the Ocean King Temple ruined the game... obviously didn't use the NOTE PAD system. IT'S THERE FOR A REASON FOLKS.
Title: Re: Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Post by: Stratos on November 04, 2009, 04:26:21 PM
I'm not as negative on the Ocean King Temple as some are, but the the overall trimmed Zelda experience was more what dampened my enjoyment of the game. Though the awesomely fun multiplayer with achievements and scored rankings along with the special boat parts made up for it by far. I really hope they keep and expand the multiplayer in Spirit Tracks. Though I hope they do something about people who disconnect. Paraphrasing Captain Jack Sparrow, "the deepest circle of Hell is reserved for deserters and disconnectors" >:p
Title: Re: Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Post by: stevey on November 04, 2009, 07:51:07 PM
PH isn't that bad as a my first Zelda game. The multiplayer in PH was the best part of the game until everyone either cheats (which laughably doesn't work because you can easily figured out that they will make a bee line to the biggest rupee), disconnects, and/or always pick the mini, mini, way too small broken stage and baby sit all three possible way of moving from one side to the other. I would love to see a four sword type spin off base on the games online mode but it's going to fail until Nintendo starts permanently banning anyone who has a high rate of disconnecting.
side question: how are cheater causing the game to stutter?

After going through all the fat in Twilight Princess, PH's trimmed experience made it go more smooth.

9th October - New Item Detailed (http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=13099)
Today, it was revealed that in The Legend Of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Link would be able to utilise a brand new instrument known as the Spirit Pipes. It is played by selecting from the colour-coded pipes on the Touch Screen while simultaneously blowing into the DS microphone. Every dungeon in the game will have a specific song assigned to it which must be played in order to access it.
So, three items out in the open at the moment. All new to the series as well. They appear to be showing a lot of creativity as a whole in this game, so I'm reassured. It looks like some people have already cemented their opinions in advance, however... :-\

That's the unfortunate side of the modern day World Wide Web, I'm afraid. It is the reason I've become much more choosy with the gaming websites I visit. Information you don't want to know yet is too easy to accidentally come across, which is why, in a bizarre twist, Nintendo's recent policy of being more secretive about their future first-party software is kind of a blessing. When there's less info being exposed, the internet cannot throw so much of it in our faces. I'm just happy that I still know very little about Spirit Tracks, as well as New Super Mario Bros Wii.
Title: Re: Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

I agree with everything you said. Unfortunately, I cant just not visit these sites. They provide valuable information that most other sites don't--for example, did you know that Bit.Trip BEAT was updated today (http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=103478)? They fixed the saving bug that was present in the NA version of the game and made some of the harder-to-see beats easier to spot. I really wasn't looking forward to this game but the recent news have made it seem a lot cooler. Sounds like they have mixed it up from what PH was.

I was the same way kraken. Something about that initial trailer really put me off but hearing tidbits about the game make me pretty excited for it.
i dont understand why i was so put off though.. PH ended up being a lot more fun than a lot of people here made it out to be and the creativity in using some of the weopons on the touch screen felt so fresh and unique, unlike the rest of the somewhat stale zelda formula.. point is, ST looked like an even more unique take on zelda when first introduced, but somehow it put me off.. but no longer! I might pick this one up on launch day now.

Yes, yes they are.
Not to spoil my review too much, (which I'll be writing tomorrow morning/afternoon and holding a member of staff at gunpoint to edit it so it can go up tomorrow night) but every negative thought and feeling I had about this game at E3 is rendered completely irrelevant by the final product. Overall, I think the E3 demo was pretty bad.
While I've still got more game to plow through, I think my main thought about this game is "Phantom Hourglass 2.0," as most of my problems with that game are fixed in some way.

I read Parish's review, and I am very pleased to hear that the train book seems somewhat similar to Majora's Mask's Character Book. Honestly, the game gave me an excuse to care about the NPCs, which is something Twilight Princess failed in.

Princess Zelda is the most adorable thing I have ever seen. Her reaction to finding out a demon is going to possess her body is priceless. Her reactions to everything are great. I would kill someone if I could get a gif image of Zelda getting in Links face for my new nwr picture.

I finally got this today at the only place in town that sells games. I tried at midnight Monday morning and of course...nothing. I go Monday afternoon (Dec 7th being the actual release date) and the guy tells me that new games only come out on tuesdays and thursdays...why do store employees who work in a specific section know nothing? So I went around noon today and got the first copy (still packaged in the shipment box).
I played it for awhile today and it's awesome. Saying that this is Phantom Hourglass 2.0 would be like calling Majora's Mask "Ocarina of Time 2.0". This game is not just an improved Phantom Hourglass.

To me it is.
I mean, it's not like that is all the game is, but to me it was a lot of the issues I had with PH being washed away, like it was an improved version of it. And I mean that in the gameplay, controls, story, etc.

That is what sequels do and it should be expected. Sonic 2, Halo 2, Gears of War 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Megaman 2, etc. Calling it 2.0 implies that this game is somehow not its own game and is simply an updated version instead of the true sequel as well as giving you a cheap shot at the previous game by saying it wasn't "complete."
Anyway, back to the game. The tower in ST is very different from PH. Each level is essentially a full dungeon complete with a boss key and miniboss. I'm in the dark floor and I love drawing my own map as I go. It also does seem harder than PH so far.
Halbred, bite your tongue. Blowing into the mic is an amazing way to play the flute.

@SixthAngel I see your point, and in all honesty, I still like my PH 2.0 comment. They were certain parts of that game that were pretty crappy in my opinion. Not broken, but definitely a source of frustration. Namely, the Temple of the Ocean King and the roll mechanic. Spirit Tracks fixes those issues, and this is more the game I wanted Phantom Hourglass to be.
People who liked Phantom Hourglass a little more unconditionally, I completely understand why you would disagree with me, but to me, this game is PH 2.0.

I LOVE this game! Its so much better than Phantom Hourglass! The story is great and the characters actually have some personality to them! Especially Zelda, she is funny at the beginning in the Spirit Tower. I just finished the 2nd floor of the Spirit Tower and its great! Its really bringing me in and making me want to play it. Something that never happened to me while playing PH. So far its amazing! It feels very fresh, even though it is very similar to PH it doesn't feel anything the same to me. The Phantom mechanics are awesome and there have been some neat puzzles so far. The Train is alot more fun then I thought the first thing I did when I hopped in was blow the whistle!

I haven't played either but I would suggest going with 1.0 first. It seems that everyone is pretty positive with this 2.0 and even defenders of 1.0 have agreed it is as good or better. I don't think you want to play a superior product and then go back and play the lesser one. I keep meaning to pick up a copy of PH sometime but I always end up getting something else. But now I want to tackle it to get to this game.

So this is about 200 years after Ocarina of Time?
For the love of all that is good in this world don't talk about the Zelda "timeline" in this thread. That always turns into a nightmare. This game is an actual in world sequel to PH (about a hundred years later) and leave it at that. It only has references to the previous game and the "same" characters. If you never played Phantom Hourglass you wouldn't even realize you were missing anything.

Quite often a direct sequel in a Zelda game doesn't usually mention events that happened in the previous one. At most they mention little bits and pieces, but that's about it. The story goes off on it's own.

I've never had a problem with the flute, I blew through the fire Lokomo song the second try.
You should never have to stop blowing in the ds/flute. Just move the flute very quickly and it will skip the notes in between when you get the harder songs like the fire lokomo.

I juse blew through the sand song the first time and that is the most difficult one so far.
The difficulty has really been cranked up in this game compared to previous Zeldas. Bosses are difficult and almost always awesome and the tower involves difficult enemies and puzzles that require multiple items and controling two characters at the same time. Its great.
I am curious if anyone missed this, Anjean = Engine (you can admit it, I won't make fun of you much). Every locomo has a name that is part of a train.

I completely skipped out on PH and got this one for Christmas. I just got beat the 2nd temple and I am loving it! Is this what I was missing the first time around? I understand that this game is supposed to be harder than the last, but the way it controles is perfect for me! I died several times on the second boss, and I got really stumped like twice. For the life of me I just couldn't figure out the first 2 bells! I'm being reminded of Link's Awakening when I play this, maybe cause its handheld but it has been very enjoyable so far.
I don't know if it was Ningurl or Peachylala who said it some time ago. But one of you said you don't like knowing how to solve the puzzle the moment you walk into a room. That comment has been constantly stuck in my mind the moment I enter a new room in every dungeon so far. And generally since I am a Zelda veteran I do know whats up right away. But again, the bells really confused me for a while, along with trying to move that other bell across the water and such. I over analyzed it so much I was just going way over board trying to get the bell where I thought it should go. I never thought an ice slide puzzle would ever get me. As frustrating as it was, I'm glad that I was stumped twice so far, even if it was due to my own stupidness. WW I never had to go into a room twice it seemed unless absolutely necessary. TP once I got majorly stumped, but other than that it was smooth sailing. But here I actually got a bit confused within the first 2 dungeons and the second boss was hard. Great so far!
God I love that train! Does anyone else get a kick out of blowing the horn!? Woo woo! The great thing about the DS touch screen compared to traditional buttons is that, that stupid cannon can actually be aimed. In WW it was such a chore and I could not stand trying to fire that cannon off of the Red Lion. Same thing will probably be said for the Wii Zelda if there is allot of movement and cannon shooting at the same time. So far riding the train has been fun, I just hope later on it doesn't pull a King of Red Lions on me.

I'm not really digging this game though I want to finish it because I finish all Zelda games and, more importantly, I spent money on it. Not that it's a bad game per se, it's just not that good. Maybe it's just been too long since I played Wind Waker, but the train seems more annoying. It's not very fun. Like most Zelda games, the dungeons are fun and I wish there were more of them. It just seems like most of this game is comprised of riding around on the train which is to be expected in a game with a train on the box. I'm just saying it's the worst part of the game.

I just finished this game and it is amazing all the way through.
The final battle is really, really cool. The last tower dungeon is especially difficult, you need to use every phantom and every item. I also enjoy driving around on my dragon train. If you liked it so far you are gonna love the rest Caterkiller.
I was incredibly happy when a bonus quest brings the return of SHADOW LINK.

"Amazing all the way through" is certainly NOT my definition of the duets. Some of them were really annoying. And what a mood killer having to do one right at the end. I mean we all knew it was coming, but come on. DELAY OF GAME FOR RAPESAKE.
ALSO, THAT STUPID SONG OF HEALING, so you use that on the final boss right? You die anyway right? You start with 3 hearts -_- with no where to get them, then you play the song again 'cause you restarted. BUT NO, ONCE MEANS ONCE, even if you restart from last save. WTF
Lastly, don't slash for 90 percent of the game like I did. Stab will really save you in the final boss fight where you walk zelda up to... zelda. from having major control issues.
Its a great game, but It has a few problems I have to mention that should have been fixed in play testing.

It seems I've tainted his thought process.
Really, I don't like it when the series puzzles are so obvious. Reusing classic puzzles types in the beginning to teach and empower new players is fine and SHOULD always be carried over, but when presentation methods are overused I can't help but feel crap is just being recycled and I'm going thru the motions.
Things don't have to be super hard to satisfy, they just need to find new ways to present puzzles and keep exercising different thought processes; the result is delivering freshness by maintaining mystery. This is why I appreciate the N64 Master Quest and the way Retro has handled puzzles throughout the Prime Trilogy.
Some of the coolest things Nintendo's done between the 2D-3D transition were: 1. Ocarina: Forest Temple's rotated rooms 2. Majora's Mask: Stone Tower's UPSIDE DOWN DUNGEON These were pretty big, ambitious deals, and a far cry from the expansive empty flatness of some recent Zelda.

Found a Target that had a black DSi. So I've started playing the game finally.
I agree that the whistle is a guilty pleasure, I loved trains as a child and would have gone crazy for this game back then.
I like the throwbacks to Windwaker and Hourglass in the game.
Has anyone else gotten a Happy Mask Salesman vibe from the Chancellor like I did. It's in his eyes when he shows different emotions.

Tell me, why the hell am i confined to the train tracks when theres those cannon enemies that drive around freely on the overworld in some ATVs?
/mad face
On a happy note, i like the stamp collecting its.. neat! and the fact that i happened to speak to niko and get the sheild of antiquity just when i decided it was time to buy a sheild of my own is just super!
I'm having fun transporting things and people from place to place.. perhaps this is my calling in life.

"Tell me, why the hell am i confined to the train tracks"
Cuz this is Nintendo's first step in making the series on-rails. We'll see the concept fully fleshed out in Zelda Wii.

So I seem to hit peaks and valleys of enjoyment in this game. I open up a new area and am all "wow, this is exciting" then I run out of area and begin to get bored when I unlock more track and towns to visit. I think it's partly me missing the free roaming over world or previous games in the series but the game was balanced enough to still hold you in even if you loved the exploration. This game keeps roping me in and preventing me from removing it to try Bowser's Inside Story.

at least you have bowsers inside story! Actually, i've only felt bored and confined by the tracks once, but that was the day i missed work and played the game literally ALL day doing as many sidequest as i could before taking on the fire temple. I'm playing it now and enjoying it all over again, after a being away from the game for a few days.

I settled on the full Skull set, which looks quite evil when it's complete. Ended up with 6 hearts instead of the usual 4 for my train.

Thats the one i went for actually. Wasn't sure what to expect because I think i started off with the Skull Cannon and didn't update anything else for awhile. The whistle noise is kinda creepy and the train as a whole looks like something on the tracks that you should be watching out for, not riding around in. I'm curious about the Dragon set, which I think i'll work on next!

I have the wooden train, the dragon train and the gold train. I have all the skull train parts but the engine. I found something like 3 Ruto crowns the entire time I played the game. The wooden train was so easy to get since I had something like 150 wood hearts too. The Gold train is also surprisingly easy if you do any side quests since they gave me all the Alchemy stones I needed and one regal ring.
My favorite is the dragon train so far. The chinese style dragon's head always moves around like its alive and the smoke comes out of its nostrils.

I don't know how to do spoilers so someone has to help me with that later.
But I just made it to the Ocean Temple and the environment before that was great! It had a very "magical" feel to it than everything that was shown in TP. That really other wordly fantasticle stuff is what I love in Zelda. Not the constantly trying to be realistic TP.

I think i have enough to get the gold train, because i have done a lot of sidequest, but I really wanna check out the dragon train. Even before you described it, i could tell it was gonna be awesome and i was mad i didn't start with that.
A tip for anyone who hasn't figured it out yet:
A GREAT place to pick up plenty of treasures is Wittleton village (or whatever its called). Just go in, equip your mystical kazoo leaf blower thingy and blow away all those brownish-yellow piles of leaves. You'll find plenty of wooden hearts, stalfos skulls, star peices and a few others if you're lucky.

I'm only into the 3rd dungeon and I am very surprised that I have gotten stumped 3 times so far! And horay for whips! I would love to see that with Wii motion plus.
In TP I was only stumped once the entire game. WW, never! Very happy about the difficulty puzzle wise.

Damn Pan Flute. Finally got the game but I can't get pass even the first song. Don't know if it's the mic or the model (using the orginal DS) but it's pissing me off. Notice a few others had issues with it as well, hopefully I figure something out because I don't think I'll buy another DS, maybe the new 3DS will be BC.

This is probably a long shot, but does anyone have a Club Nintendo registration for this game that they don't plan on using? I did the "Intend to Buy" with this game because someone I know was going to buy it, but they never did, so now I'm stuck with a registration notice for this game that I can't fulfill.

Since the stupid club nintendo isn't available in south america because Nintendo is retarded or something (god I want those hanafuda cards so badly), I guess I could give it to you, still you are bad person for not buying the game, bad, bad person. I have to think some way for you to pay me this favor :P
I finished it some days ago and I loved that final battle, although it took me a while to figure it out. The flute was a pain I know, but eventually you get the hand of it, I guess it is at least a good simulation of what playing an instrument is, and the game is just showing us how bad we are at it. It is a better game than Phantom Hourglass, but the controls were more responsive in that game, which is very weird. Still, Spirit tracks has an amazing set of items, second only to Majora's Mask's in my opinion.

God I hate that freaking flute, I'm stuck at the "Sand" song--I hope this is the last one, going take me another couple of hours to beat it.
Overall I love the puzzles and most of the gameplay is great on foot anyhow. The Train blows just as bad as Wind Wakers sailboat but at least it hasn't talking yet. :( Does the upgrades change anything? Or could I just sell my items so I can afford those Heartpeices. One of them is sold for 2,000 and one of this is freaking 5000 (you need to unlock the gold card I think).

Well I found a few guides about the pan flute that helped quite a bit. First you have to take small short breathes. Works better: Two, you have to time your input with that Dong Dong sound in the background. Each dong you have to hit the required note. You really don't have to hold the key like I was trying to do, just a short burst would do.

The way they designed the 3DS would make it hard for them to keep making them touch-oriented, unless they were willing to not use the 3D.

Ahem. Hey all! Wow, I haven't been on in a long time. And in my many years of absence from NWR, brought on by an absence from Nintendo systems, I missed the release of this game.
Well, I recently found a 3DSXL for $99 at Target (Smash Bros version) thanks to DrewMG, so I'm back in the game! Obviously, Zeldas I missed are going to be on the backlog. Problem is, Spirit Tracks is surprisingly really hard to find now at a reasonable price. Cart-only copies are selling for like $30-40 on ebay. So, my point: I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on where to go to track this game down. Really want to get a complete version, but don't need new/sealed (that cellophane is expensive).
Ideas?
P.S. - It's nice to see so many familiar people still around. Hiii!! :D

Well, I will often check Kijiji for local sales. I'm not sure if you use that site in the states. Maybe that Craigslist thing or something. It's like local classifieds of different things people are selling. I've been able to get Four Swords, Ikaruga and Super Mario 3D World through it at good prices. The other source I still like to check out is EBGames which is now owned by Gamestop. At one point, Spirit Tracks was sold for 23-25 bucks there. A trade-in could potentially happen. Perhaps you could have them do a stock check.
Those are just a couple options of the top of my head.

There's the possibility that it will end up available on a digital download service, but if that happens it's a lot more likely to be on the Wii U.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Gamestop was a strikeout for me, as were all local game shops and dept./toy/electronics stores and craigslist, but good ol' ebay came through. I feel really fortunate to have nabbed a complete used copy for $30. Obviously that means new/sealed ones are going for much more.

Haha, yes, hi! It's been awhile. We'll see if I stick around… I'm guessing my status will be a bit more than "completely non-existent" for at least the near future. :) (doubt I'll ever be as active as I once was, though I might have a mafia game in me yet…)
In on-topic news, I got my copy from ebay, and it's great! I'm, much to my homework's detriment, completely hooked. Honestly, it's sort of like I haven't had candy in a long time, and someone's like, HERE HAVE A BAG and then I eat it all at once. It's sorta bad.
I wasn't sold on the whole train travel thing initially (like, when I heard about the game's premise when it was originally announced long ago), but it's interesting. Reminds me a lot of Windwaker's sailing, and like sailing there's good and bad. I haven't had a chance to upgrade my engine yet, but I'm hoping the others aren't just cosmetic or health-related, and that at least some make you go faster. Warping is fine, but I haven't figured out where everything takes me yet. I'd explore a bit more, but the story is whipping me this way and that "Gotta save so-and-so!" "Oh, we need to go here!" so I feel a little guilty just exploring and side-questing. Overall, though, good stuff (which is to be expected from a Zelda…)!

Nice. Maybe I should crack open my copy and play through it also. I finally got around to playing Phantom Hourglass about 4 or 5 months ago and it was quite enjoyable though there were a couple things I did not like about it but they weren't the same things other people complain about. I really liked the touchscreen controls. I was tempted to dive right into Spirit Tracks after finishing up PH but I held off to save it for later since there are no other touch screen Zelda's after it.
Right now I'm playing Kirby: Canvas Curse for the first time as well. I'm progressing through it pretty well. It's not as hard as I feared or remember hearing about back when it released. I had planned to play Chrono Trigger DS next and finally get around to playing that game but I've delayed doing that so long, why not play Spirit Tracks first? (So many DS games I still have to play. Why did I buy so many?)
