Capcom also revealed a Resident Evil "Classics" line for Wii, which will feature the re-release of GameCube titles Resident Evil (the remake) and Resident Evil Zero. Capcom did not confirm new Wii play controls in either title, but due to their release in Japan featuring retrofitted GameCube controls, it is unlikely.

CAPCOM® BRINGS RESIDENT EVIL® BACK TO THE WIITM WITH RESIDENT EVIL®: THE DARKSIDE CHRONICLES AND TWO TITLES IN THE RESIDENT EVIL "CLASSICS" LINE
Sequel to Resident Evil®: The Umbrella Chronicles, joins Resident Evil Zero and the Nintendo Gamecube® remake of Resident Evil on the Wii Platform
SAN MATEO, Calif. March 12, 2009 -- Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced its plans for a big comeback of its multi-million-selling franchise, Resident Evil® to the Wii video game system this year. Resident Evil®: The Darkside Chronicles, the sequel to the highly successful Wii title Resident Evil®: The Umbrella Chronicles, is in development exclusively for the Wii and is set to hit North American retailers this winter. Capcom also introduced its plans for a new Resident Evil "Classics" line, which will bring the critically acclaimed Nintendo GameCube classics, Resident Evil® and Resident Evil® Zero exclusively to the Wii, allowing a whole new audience to experience the world of Resident Evil.
"We are very excited to be bringing the sequel to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles to the Wii as its the perfect fit for the platform," said Mona Hamilton, vice president, marketing, Capcom Entertainment. "We are always looking for new ways to give Capcom fans a chance to experience our games. Umbrella Chronicles was a huge success for us, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles includes a more in-depth co-op experience, and we are excited to bring this exclusive content to the Wii audience."
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicless story is based on Resident Evil 2 and includes the popular characters, Leon S Kenney and Claire Redfield. Its on-rails style gameplay and active camera will create a more immersive "Chronicles" survival experience. As in the last installment, this is a first-person game with extreme shooting gameplay and interactive pathways. Filling in many of the missing pieces of storyline that were not covered in the original "Umbrella Chronicles", Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles will give hardcore fans the chance to re-live some of the most classic moments of the Resident Evil franchise, while allowing new players to take advantage of the intense action-horror experience only possible on the Wii.
Gamers can choose to take on their enemies with the help of an A.I.-controlled character or enlist the help of a friend to fight via two-player co-op. Adding new dimension and strategy to the arcade-style gameplay in the "Chronicles" experience, the new Evade system will utilize the Wii Remote for a more intense experience when fighting enemies.
Capcoms new Resident Evil "Classics" line will allow the new audience who has embraced the Wii to experience some of the greatest games in the Resident Evil franchise for the value price of $29.99. Both set to launch this year, the remake of Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero have been refitted to support the Wii Remote, giving the Wii audience easy access to the rich characters and in-depth storylines of the series and the chance to experience both games on a new platform.
More information on Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles and the Resident Evil "Classics" Line will be revealed in the coming months.
How utterly disappointing. At this point I'd even settle for RE2 remade in the same vain as REmake.
(Vein? I'm embarrassed I don't know this. Pretty sure it's vain.)
It's "vein" the way you used it. "Vain" is an adjective.

Damn. Glad someone is familiar with the idiosyncrasies of our stupid language.
I know what vain means. I also know what a vein is. But neither really make that much sense in the original sentence ("same _______").
Wow. NOBODY picked up on my Carly Simon reference? Com'on, people.
Wow. NOBODY picked up on my Carly Simon reference? Com'on, people.I cought it.
i feel like throwing up like a zombie. part of me wants to give up entirely on the damn Resident Evil franchise. Capcom is converting it to something it wasn't, and just being lazy.

I cought it.
Ugh, this is seriously embarrassing. Looks like Capcom learned the wrong lesson from Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition... What little respect I had for them is now gone.

What do you expect? They are making a sequel to a very successful game in UC, is that somehow odd now? Also in regards to the ports, that is Capcom, who has always loved ports.
Better, warmer...

How is this any different than Nintendo's "New Play Control!" line? Maybe Nintendo should approach Capcom and see if they would like to use the label.
Not sure I will get either port. I have heard mixed impressions on the Japanese versions.

I did too.
What do you expect? They are making a sequel to a very successful game in UC, is that somehow odd now? Also in regards to the ports, that is Capcom, who has always loved ports. This actually is what I expected, and I even sort of called this one:
I've got a bad feeling this is going to be something like... the Resident Evil remake on the GameCube being re-released with Wii controls.
I am astounded by how Capcom has embraced remaking/porting from generation to generation. Is it unprecedented? First they remake RE for GC, then they remake the REmake for wii? It's almost as if Capcom will just deliver those two games, plus 4, over and over again to Nintendo consoles.
Hell, I'd have KILLED for an RE2 Wiimake. It'd have been instabuy using the Wiimote to aim. I've actually never played it. But RE0 and RE1? And if they lack Wiimote aiming, I'm even more turned off.
RE: DC though, I'm excited for!
I dunno...RE4-style remake? T_T
