Title: Empire: Total War
Post by: GoldenPhoenix on March 02, 2009, 09:28:54 PM
This board doesn't get nearly enough PC love so why not bring up one of the biggest PC games this year, the next iteration of the Total War series. In many ways the series reminds me so much of the game that got me interested in the RTS genre, which was the amazing Myth (Not Myst the point and Click Adventure!) 1, and 2 Bungie (Myth 3 was made by someone else). Instead of forcing you to base build, Myth allowed you to focus on what was the most fun, and yes engaging (at least to me) part of the genre, which is is strategy and troop placement along with what kinds of troops you wish to use. Total War expands on this idea, forming some of the most spectacular battles ever in an RTS.

So is anyone else excited to pick up this next iteration of Empire: Total War? All I have to say is....YEAH FOR NAVAL BATTLES!

Me like Total War too! Only, it's getting a bit stale. You just upgrade your settlements with all the money-making buildings and a few others with the military ones and boom, you win game. I wished they took some ques from the Paradox strategy games and added some actual depth to the overview map.

on the other side, i'm really stoked to see if you can pull of the Swedish tactics which were actually Macedonian tactics (Alexander the Great time) but with guns...and beating the French, there's always some satisfaction in beating that huge big blue blob.

Well hopefully the naval combat freshens it up again.

I actually have the Rome Total War game sitting in my room because a friend didn't want it anymore and just gave it to me. Actually he tried to sell it to me and I said I wasn't interested so he said I could have it.
I'll have to check it out since I've heard some good things about it and I like strategy games. If I like it enough I'll try the new one, especially since ship combat sounds like an interesting new mechanic.
