What do you get when you cross the arcade classic Pong with a music/rhythm game? The end result would probably be close to Aksys Game's new WiiWare title Bit.Trip: Beat.
Much like Pong, you still move your paddle around by tilting the Wii Remote, but in this unique WiiWare title you'll have to bounce the blocks off your paddle in rhythm with the pumping musical beats the game makes use of. The sound of the blocks bouncing off of your paddle will even give off musical notes that will blend in with the background music if you time it correctly.
The patterns of the blocks gets increasingly difficult throughout the game, especially during the game's boss battles, so you'll have your work cut out for you if you expect to play through the entire game.
You'll always be able to tell how well your doing by the music and visuals in the background. If you're playing poorly the visuals will be basic black and white visual patterns and the music will only be simple beeps, whereas if you're playing well you'll be treated to much flashier visuals and music.
The game will even allow you to team up with up to 4 other players in a cooperative game play mode for increased intensity.
Beat will only be the first of up to five Bit.Trip releases from the developer, so this game will only be the beginning if things go according to the developer's plans.

Nice to see a small company like Aksys make a play for WiiWare. A series you say? Hmmm....

It might be developed by Arc Systems Works since Aksys games is the American publisher for their games(Aksys is derived from Arc Systems Works.)
And they already published a WiiWare game near launch: Family Table Tennis. They also published 2 virtual console games: Super Dodgeball for the NES and Double Dragon for the NES.
Edit: I was wrong heres the game info
- developed by Gaijin Games, published by Aksys - looks like a reimagining of Pong, but is a lot more than that. - rhythm based gameplay : deflect pixel blocks with your paddle (which is controlled by rotating the Wiimote) in sync with the music - the better you play, the flashier the visuals and music become, but if you play badly, the visuals will turn black and white, and the sound will be muffled. - three levels (worlds ?) - boss battles - 4 players coop - created with the concepts of "simplicity" and "fun" in mind - they intend to follow up with five other Bit.Trip games

I don't know if there is another thread for this game, but I just played teh demo of this earlier and this game is Pong on fuckin acid!!!
I was really into it and it was kickin my ass with the visuals and the concentration needed to track what dot is doing what where when and how. I think I just might buy this game and play it some more....
Demos might have just made a sale.

Yeah, that demo for Beat sold me on pretty much the entire Bit.Trip series, as I own all 3 released so far. Just fair warning, though: you might want to wait on a demo before buying Core, because it is an entirely different and even more sadistic beast.

I must be the only one who finds the game is bland and uninteresting.

Wow, that hidden co-op mode in Beat is a godsend. For the life of me, I could not get past that absolutely insane third song ("Growth"). My best friend was over today, though, and he wanted to try out Beat. We had both forgotten that we had just set up a second controller for some NSMBW play, so when I saw the extra blue paddle on-screen I picked up the spare controller and played through the entire game with him. We somehow managed to beat the entire game in one sitting, and I have to tell you I don't think it's possible to clear Growth on your own. We managed to coordinate our efforts, though, and escape with a win. Nice! ^_^
Now to rope him into a session with Core so I can finally get past the second song...

I am definitely gonna buy this game as soon as I get some more Wii Points. I accidentally discovered the 2 player option last night. Fun times ahead.

Hidden co-op? Is it not listed in the operations manual that it is 2-players? I thought that it was but I'm not sure.

It may be, but the game itself doesn't list a multiplayer option and with WiiWare/VC manuals relegated to options in the Home Menu (unlike game manuals, which I can just flip open at any time I'm bored) I never read them.
