Title: If we can't have Tatsunoko vs. Capcom...
Post by: NWR_pap64 on January 03, 2009, 03:48:48 PM
...Are we OK with Nintendo vs. Capcom?
I was reading this article at My Review Point about 2009 predictions (you can read here (http://www.myreviewpoint.com/2009/featured/top-5-what-wii-predict-for-2009/)). Check out what number 3 has to say...
"3. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom does not get localized, but Nintendo vs. Capcom gets announced! As much as I want to play as obscure Japanese Anime characters, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom! will not be localized for North American or European markets. There are too many legal battles to fight and the added cost of conversion would delay the game in Western Markets until late 2009. However, the game will act as the foundation of a video game that all gamers want to see, Nintendo vs. Capcom! We wrote a design story on this title, however, it was mere speculation. With the great graphics engine of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom! already built, Nintendo who has a strong relationship with Capcom, could co-develop a fighting title that would define this generation. Imagine the battles between Mario and Viewtiful Joe, or Peach vs. Morrigan? The game would allow it to cater to younger players thanks to the Nintendo brands, and Super Smash Bros Brawl has proven that when fighting games are done right on the Wii, sales of those titles go through the roof. C’mon Capcom! C’mon Nintendo, we know you read this blog! Make it happen. I am available as the Project Manager!"
OK, so the prediction is one big fanboy fantasy that has very little chance of happening (even the poster admits it). But let's pretend that Capcom really does want to release one way or another and updates its roster. Would you be happy with the change? Does the idea of Nintendo characters fighting Capcom characters entice you? What other franchise would you want Capcom fight if Nintendo isn't good enough?

Well Pap we may get a version of Tatsunoko vs Capcom in one form or another. Various Capcom reps said that they are working on it with the biggest hurdle is licensing, Also Cristian Sevvenson from Capcom said that they have a surprise Wii announcement in 09.

Yeah, Capcom keeps affirming that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom will arrive one way or another.
I still believe that Capcom will face a major hurdle with the licensing issues. In Japan, Tatsunoko owns Tatsunoko, meaning that Capcom only has to pay a minimal fee for all the characters included. In American, however, the characters are owned by various companies. Not only that, many characters have yet to be licensed in the states.
So I think that if we DO get Tatsunoko vs. Capcom I see some Tatsunoko characters being dropped out, but more Capcom characters will be added in order to compensate the loss.

I've been wanting a Nintendo vs Capcom for many years now. I even made a prediction in the rumor thread a while ago.
I still expect to see a Nintendo vs Capcom one of these days. Since Capcom loves to do these crossover games (Marvel, SNK, Namco, Tatsunoko, and maybe Sega now) it's only a matter of time. Plus considering all the deals Nintendo and Capcom have made in the past and keep making with each other, the makes the chances of it happening even greater.
Of course I'm not expecting anything at the current time, but I do believe that sometime in the next 10 years we will see a Nintendo and Capcom crossover.
We still have 10 more years, so it's bound to happen. ;D

That sounds fairly likely. Personally, I wouldn't mind if that turned out to be the case; the Capcom half of the roster had one too many obscure Japanese characters. Even if the licensing issues were sorted out, gamers in the western hemisphere probably won't find a fighting game full of characters they haven't heard of very appealing.
Here's my (unlikely) wish list for additional charcters for Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Cross Generation Of Heroes...
Jill Valentine (Resident Evil 1, 3)
Leon S. Kennedy (Resident Evil 2, 4)
Okami Amaterasu (Okami)
Dante (Devil May Cry)
Bo (Breath of Fire)
Zack [with Wiki assisting in some special moves and hyper combos] (Zack & Wiki: Quest For Barbaros' Treasure)

If Tatsunoko vs Capcom makes it stateside, I bet they will replace the Tatsunoko characters with comics characters or something of the kind.

I've been thinking a Nintendo Vs Capcom game would be cool when I first heard about the "Vs Capcom" series. I also remember thinking of something like this when the Nintendo-published but difficultly-licensed Jump Superstars came out on DS, since it'd make all kinds of sense for Nintendo to use that engine for a Smash Bros DS game. However, "think it would be cool" isn't the same as "predict" or "expect," in fact, in my case, they're pretty much opposites. I think this title will fade from our consciousness just like Jump Super Stars did.
