Title: Monster Hunter G for Wii
Post by: MaleficentOgre on December 24, 2008, 06:22:25 PM
Yup, that's right. Capcom pulls a brazenly Capcom-esque move and ports Monster Hunter G from the PS2 to the Wii. It's a straight port that only uses the Classic Controller according to Famitsu. This is surely fantastic for all the Monster Hunter Fans who didn't play this game when it first launched on the Playstation 2, or when it was ported to the PSP. The game is said to be near finished and ready for release in Spring of 2009 in Japan.

So we get this and MH3?
That's not such a bad deal.

This would be mildly annoying if Capcom was only releasing this port and not MH3. I say "mildly annoying" because Capcom goes port crazy on every piece of hardware everywhere ever so how can anyone even be slightly surprised?

In the famitsu thread I reported this, MHG is about 75% done and MH:Tri is about 40% done. They are doing this to transplant the PS2/PSP audience to Wii so that they can have a healthy market base for MH:Tri. Monster Hunter G is online enabled so people may rebuy this in Japan because a lot of PS2 online servers are shut down.

Monster Hunter G is basically an enhanced version of monster hunter 1, the G is like a directors cut, for reference here's the official series time line.

Monster Hunter G for Wii will be released on April 23, 2009 for ¥3990 (same price as the Biohazard 0/remake ports). A demo of Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) will be included in the package.
Also, Capcom and Nintendo are releasing a special classic controller with a Monster Hunter G design. It'll be released separately as well as in a bundle (Monster Hunter G Starter Pack) with the game for ¥5220. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/CONFUZZLED_MUNKIE/27yqpa8.jpg) Custom classic controller in Japan. Looks like the Madness known as Monster Hunter fever will begin soon :)

I like that design of the classic controller.

Considering the game only uses a classic controller its smart that they are releasing the game as a standalone for roughly 44 dollars or with the custom classic controller for roughly 55 dollars (going by conversion rates)

Ninty should really start releasing more LE controllers like this...I'd totally buy them...

The fact it is Classic Controller only is fine by me. This will finally give me an excuse to use my classic controller on something outside of the virtual console.

I didn't think Nintendo would approve of a game that uses only the classic controller, let alone endorse it like this.

The way they see it, more reasons to buy their hardware, the better. Plus, if people buy this controller, it gives them more reason to check out VC and WiiWare titles.

Not true, there's quite a few games that uses only the classic controller. And it's smart that they are throwing a classic controller bundle. A classic controller is a standard Wii controller so there's no penalty. It's like saying Nintendo wouldn't endorse a DDR,Guitar Hero, Rock Band game because it needs special controller.

It's not true that I didn't think that? Wow. Anyway, there are a lot of games where Wii remote only controls make no sense or are simply terrible, such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Guitar Hero, but they require only the Wii remote nevertheless. It is surprising, then, when a game requires more than the Nunchuk to be played at all. I don't know where you got the idea that I'd be surprised Nintendo was okay with peripherals in general (I'm too lazy to fill this sentence with links to the likes of the Wii Wheel, the Wii Zapper, and the Wii Balance Board, so use your imagination).
