Title: Wii Speak
Post by: UncleBob on December 05, 2008, 09:19:53 PM
It's up - who's got it?  I want to check it out...

Also, do we need a Wii Speak channel thread on the Friend Code forum?

I have it. I'll get back to you on that.

You know the Wii menu in every game has to be implemented in EVERY GAME, it's not like the Wii has devoted memory to it's OS.

I meantion this because I would have liked to see a WiiSpeak implementation into everygame.

I just downloaded it this morning.  I really want to try it out and see how it works.  Anyone down?  I don't think I have any of you guys' Wii numbers...

Mine: 6761 9883 7072 2526  (I just added you, Flames_of_chaos)

Let's start a chat room to test this out.

I just got Wii Speak, I will be hooking it up tonight and checking it out.

So I guess it works with your Wii Friend Number not a new number...which is great.  So if people want to Spam me messages, and talk...hopefully you can do that after 7:00pm Central Time.

I'm posting this around, but anybody getting The Conduit can get the Animal Crossing/WiiSpeak bundle for crazy cheap here:

I just got that bundle new at Best Buy for $25.

Don't care for Animal Crossing, but since WiiSpeak is $30 by itself and I get Nintendo points for AC, I figured it was a deal I couldn't pass up.

Well, I feel stupid buying it today for $30 at Fred Meyer. Plus the it doesn't seem to work! There is a "performance check" option under settings where your tv play music for ten seconds. It fails every time. Somebody needs to get online so I can test this puppy.

Is there lots of noise around you? My room is right by the window so there are often lots of kids around making noise.

there were some birds chirping outside the window. Otherwise it was pretty quiet.

Hmm In what order did you set up Wii speak? Sometimes you need to unplug everything and set it up in the correct order.

If that doesn' t work unplug everything for 5 mins and plug everything in again.

If that doesn't work contact Nintendo.

Maybe someone else on the forum has some ideas.

I'd like to try Wii Speak with anyone if they want. My Wii number (my profile won't accept it for some reason) is
5312 8355 0132 9987.

I will add you if you will talk to me ThomasO. I wanna give this thing a dry run before Conduit. Maybe Tomorrow night. Keep an eye on this thread, I will post a time I'm going to be logged in to Wii Speak. Friend Code is coming

Don't worry about the performance test. It gives me the same message every time.
I just create a voice message to test it for real, and I can hear it plain and clear that it works.

I think this is a site wide problem, I haven't seen any profiles with Wii FC/XBLA/PSN names and it won't let me add mine either.

I plugged in my WiiSpeak. Does it do something automatically?
Do I have to put the Animal Crossing Game in the Wii too?

I tested mine out in The Conduit.
Works, but there is obvious sound quality issues.
Voices sound distant & muffled.

BnM sounded distant and muffled as well. I think I may need to turn up the sensitivity.

It might be because I have a fan on(its fuckin HOT!!) and the TV was up a little louder than usual to compensate for the added white noise it was making. After the match I would actually walk up to the TV to make sure you could hear me. Did you hear the difference?

i really wish they would decrease the price of this and more games would be confirmed to use it. $30 is to expensive for something that is only used with like 3 games.

There's a third?

Animal Crossing and Conduit are the only ones I know of, though I guess it is safe to assume Grinder will feature it since HVS is making it.
Oh, there's also that Wiiware ball throwing game Let's Catch.

What else is there or could there be?

I'm glad TW doesn't use it. With the amount of cussing that game makes me do, I'm sure no one else wants to hear it :D.

Title: Re: Wii Speak

If so then I think it is hilarious that a golf game makes you curse up a storm.

TW = Tiger Woods '10?

It is Tiger Woods & if that game doesn't make you cuss then you haven;t played it,
Little read errors that happen from time to time like when you go to barely tap the ball for a putt on the edge of the hole but somehow it registers 90% and you send the ball into the nearest sand trap instead. If that doesn't make you cuss out loud, then you weren't that into the game.

I've never cursed at a game as much as I did TW yesterday during the 2nd half of the London Invitational. I must have restarted it 7-8 times even though I was doing good, just because one hole would get all fucked up because of some stupid read errors. Like when I had a hole that managed to get to 5 over par because the ball hit the same tree 3 times and over putted off the green into the sand trap (again).

I still finished 1st place, but it was a tough day for me and TW especially since it was raining on the course.
If I had been playing against someone with WS you have either been laughing at my frustration or muting me for fear of deflowering your virgin ears. But either way it wasn't pretty, yet extremely fun all at the same time.

I can see how that would be frustrating.

The games that made me the most mad were Mario Tennis and Perfect Dark on the N64. I really hated the AI on those games. I remember one night I got wrapped up in a challenge map on PD and the CPU were always one step ahead of me but I was always oh so close to winning. I was screaming at the top of my lungs and eventually my parents came downstairs because it was the middle of the night and they thought it was a drunk guy outside or the neighbors ex-husband coming and harassing her again. I was embarrassed at how crazy I got that night. Ah, being young and angry.

Sometimes I grumble to myself when I'm playing Conduit with annonymous people but once it turned on because a friend joined and I didn't notice. I don't think it picked up my grumbling though. There were a couple very frustrating matches in Conduit where the game did a really poor job creating teams. Also when it gets really laggy I get frustrated as well because I would swear I made multiple killer headshots but then they kill me when the lag didn't show they had moved and I die.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use the WiiSpeak on more than one Wii?
I'm trying to set it up on a different Wii but you can only use the code once(which is retarded).

These things should install the channel automatically on whichever Wii is connected too. Why would Nintendo want to be so strict with who can use these little mics? What if you wanted to sell it to someone or use it on more than on Wii?

The download code is for the Wii Speak Channel. You don't need the channel in order to use the accessory with any compatible games.

EDIT: You can get another code issued from Nintendo, according to this article:

To reply to a much earlier post, there's NHL2K10 that uses the Mic, along with AC and Conduit...

Oh, so if I plug it into this Wii and then play Animal Crossing, it should work without a problem?

Maybe I'll try that out later tonite or tomorrow nite if you all are playing at the time I decide to try it out.

As far as I'm aware, yes, it should work. Just make sure that you plug in the accessory before you power on the system.

To reply to a much earlier post, there's NHL2K10 that uses the Mic, along with AC and Conduit...
To be fair, that game wasn't available when the question was asked.

NBA2K10 also uses the accessory.
