Title: I'm thinking of using the Wii VC/WiiWare gift function for Christamas gifts
Post by: AV on December 03, 2008, 11:05:42 PM
Ok I'm totally on a budget and I was thinking if I could spend about $20 for my Brother in Law and Sister that would be excellent.

My brother in law bought the wii and he is a 'new hardcore gamer'. He loves Metroid Prime 3, Resident Evil 4 etc. Wii is the first console he got in a while so he is back logged in the stuff.

My sister likes the Nintendo classics and general casual games.

So I was thinking for Christmas to give them :

Tetris Party (1200 Wiipoints)

which is great for my sister and its multiplayer so my brother in law will enjoy as well.

So that leaves 800 wiipoints left.

I already gave my Brother In law "Orbiet" for his birthday.

So I don't think he will like RPG's and here is the kicker I don't think he ownes a classic controller.

I don't think he would be into any of the RPG's that are on the virtual console so that kicks those hardcore games out.

I was thinking of gifting him 'Super Metroid' which is exactly 800 points, however it would be sort of odd to buy him a game that forces him to buy a classic controller.

So any advice on what i should give my brother in law from WiiWare/ Virtual Console ?

Most Genesis games can be played comfortably with just a Wii remote held NES-style, so if you're looking to spend $8 you should see if you can find anything he'd like there.

I'm a fan of Landstalker, which was an action RPG clearly inspired by Zelda.  Also just gifted an old highschool friend with Mario 3 - can't go far wrong there.

Or if you want to inflict torture you could gift him with Kid Icarus: the game that proves none of us gaming today are as hardcore as we once were.

I suggest The Dynastic Hero or Wonder Boy in Monster World.  They're the same game, 'cept The Dynastic Hero has CD audio for the music and a few graphical changes.  It's a side-scrolling action-adventure with a slightly Metroid-esque progression.

Gunstar Heroes

It's on Genesis.  It costs 8 bux.  It doesn't require the Classic Controller.  It's totally awesome.

He is a great brother in law and good friend to myself. The best part is I already have 200 wiipoints left so I will only have to buy 1000 points with my debit card and I'll have just enough for Tetris party.
