Title: New Logo... Thoughts?

Not really a new logo, just gray, not red (http://kotaku.com/5099017/nintendo-feels-all-grown-up-changes-logo)
Not that this really changes anything... I just find it an odd choice. Why go through the trouble? I prefer the red logo over the gray one, but it's still the same logo.

i thought that when the gamecube came out Nintendo had switched its logo to a purple hue, maybe perhaps territory by territory will have a different colored Nintendo logo

I recall that the Dreamcast's swirl logo was blue in Europe, as opposed to orange as it was elsewhere. Clearly Nintendo is just trying to copy that success. :P

It's someone's job to tinker with sh!t that needn't be tinkered with. If a company doesn't change their logo every once in a while then whoever's in charge of that sort of stuff looks useless. Thus they create work for themselves to justify their employment.
I would like them to keep the old logo. But then I preferred the old Square and Konami logos as well. Typically you identify with the "look" you first encountered as it seems normal to you and everything else feels wrong.
Case in point everyone my age misses the old black, orange and yellow Canucks uniforms because that's what they wore when they went to the finals in 1994 and thus was the first look I encountered. That colour scheme is often regarded as one of the WORST EVER by other hockey fans but it looks familiar and "right" to fans of a certain age.
Every logo I've ever seen looked "right" to me around 1988 or so. Pepsi should still be in a white can.

If you read the note closely, you'd see that they actually changed the logo a few years ago and just didn't make a big deal about it. Though, grey has essentially always been Nintendo's corporate color... I remember getting a letterhead from them in the early 90s and it was that color. And despite its fame, red was actually just the US color for games... it was blue in Japan. They made a big point of changing the logo color in games during localization; from more recent ones all the way back to at least Donkey Kong in the arcades.

Haha, I did a couple of searches for old Japanese Nintendo ads, and I noticed that the logo they used (in Japan) had a longer oval shape, but the same font. America used the logo we all know and love. When Japan started adopting the American logo, I doubt the Japanese cared.
But people are seriously offended by this color change? Wow... to my knowledge, Nintendo used different colors for their logo in game intros. The most common one I saw was a white against a black backdrop. It's not even a big change.
And FYI, the best Konami logo was the one with black italics. The one they used mostly in the SNES, NES days.

Mm. I've never associated the logo with a color, just the shape. When I saw all the "new logo" news, I was worried they dropped the oval and went with a boring Wii-style logo. I wouldn't even consider a color swap to be a "change."

I too have read the articles with comments citing more and more "nintendo abandoned us" rhetoric becuase of this, somehow. I just can't believe it.. why get upset over something so trivial, especially only NOW since its clearly been changed for some time now (officially, not counting the COUNTLESS times the logo has seen some sort of variation from game to game or ad to ad).
One article i read discussed the grey coloring being a change from a japanese centric logo (red on white backdrop) to a more nuetral logo since nintendo focuses more on world domination in their market. Now at first i thought it was a good point, until i remembered that the nintendo logo i'm most used to seeing is the classic red racetrack logo/font on a BLACK backdrop, and there is nothing about that that screams japan to me. Then you have to consider nintendo used that same logo in a golden hue for their Official products from the quality seal to officialy licensed products, oh and like Pro mentioned they used different variations (gold and silver come to mind) in the N64 days.
This whole thing is a non-issue and anyone that makes it one is clearly a stupid n00b ;)

Well I wanted to be more specific to imply the war raged on by pretend-nintendo-fans. Didn't want to overgeneralize and include the friendly pr0n traffickers in that lot.
