Title: NSMB: Mario vs. Luigi mode
Post by: UncleBob on November 25, 2008, 12:00:03 AM
I'm damn good at this mode... anyone else?
Here's hoping we get some kind of sequel, with more levels, more power ups and some kind of handicapped options.
When I play with friends, I've started using my Action Replay to give them advantages like "Start with Fire Power" or "Always have MEGA Mushroom in Reserve" so they have a fighting chance. It'd be nice if we didn't have to do all the hot-swapping with the DS cart to do this.
I here-by challenge anyone who's brave enough to face me to a round of Mario vs. Luigi. Bring it on!

After Mario Kart I've spent more multiplayer time with this than any other game on the DS and probably any other game this generation. I'd absolutely love a sequel to New Super Mario Bros., for the multiplayer as much as the single player. I would definitely take you on if it supported Wi-Fi.

It was a fun mode. Shame they couldn't just implement all the levels from the main game.

Nintendo loves to give us little bonuses like this that fun to play, but don't have enough options.
I wish Nintendo would take these ideas flesh them out and turn them into Wii Ware titles.
Personally, I would love to see a more Donkey Kong, or Mario Bros. twist to the game play. Have single screen levels that are designed for multiple techniques to advance, and have people racing up and down the levels for stars and power ups.
Keep all the advance New Super Mario moves, and then add 4 player support and you have a killer WiiWare App. It would be simple like Bomberman, but the depth to keep it fun and rewarding.

I'd pay $10 and end my Wii Downloading boycott for just the Donkey Kong-based level. ;)

Loved this mode, I don't think I've ever lost.
NAL held some sorta hybrid NSMB/Mario Kart Tournament a few years back. First round was this game 1 on 1. I went up against some guy who knew what he was doing but not what I was doing. The highlight was, I think I needed one my star but then he got a super star. He went to charge me and god my timing was perfect. I knew that if I jumped early, he'd get me so I jumped at the very last moment, just as Mario hit top speed and jsut before he touched me. I jump and turn around the air, Luigi doing his split legs trip. The crowd watching actually gasped. I ran on to grab the last star and win.
In the next round I was eliminated by yoshi in Mario Kart but don't worry cos I beat 6 other Yoshi's to come 2nd.

I've never tried this mode but I think I should since it might get me back into that game I finished a year and a half ago.

New way to play, for anyone looking for a twist. Set to three lives. Stars don't matter. Go to the Ice Level. Left of the starting pipes are some bricks and some gaps.
Both players run over to this area - one play starts on the left of the main gap, one player starts on the right. Both players bow to show they are ready. Now, you aren't supposed to leave the icy area (although you may occasionally get knocked away). The idea is to knock your opponent down one of the holes. When one player falls and respawns, they rush back over, both players bow again, and the fun starts anew.
For an added twist, have one player grab the mushroom/turtle shell and knock some of the bricks away in various patterns.
