Nintendo, whose online presence is subdued compared to those of rivals Sony and Microsoft, will unveil community software for the Wii in the future.

"Nintendo has always had a vision on community," said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime to Forbes' Chris Morris for his weekly column.

"The issue is that we define community differently than our competitors. ... Our consumers do want a sense of community, and we're going to deliver that--but in a way that is unique to Nintendo," he added.

Fils-Aime offered no further details on the community features, including a release date, but Morris projected that more will be known at E3 2009.

I wonder what Reggie and Iwata have up their sleeves, maybe it will roll out near the storage solution since Nintendo did admit that they have to overhaul the wii software for that.

Well, I don't think I'd expect to ever see it if it's rolling out with the storage solution.

I hope they give us what should have been there day 1, graphs comparing our play data of each game. Oh mmyyyyyy yes.

"What, you gave it a 10, and you only played it 4 hours?"
"Why have you spent 80 hours playing Far Cry Vengeance?"

Fights will break out in the true community spirit.

"Why have you spent 80 hours playing Far Cry Vengeance?"

I think everyone would ask Kairon that.

"we're going to deliver that--but in a way that is unique to Nintendo,"

In other words, purposely limited with glaring, annoying flaws.. Yet free, and irresistible even to the most cynical crowd.

THey should've just made Animal crossing the community thing and taken out all the animals. It'd be like HOME but fun.

Exactly. Animal Crossing should have come WITH the console, or even built in. All of the functionality is there, at least in potential. That game could have highlighted every aspect of the Wii with meaningful integration. Instead we get what is a slightly tweaked rehash that's missing obvious features like realtime weather.
