Any talk of better memory management or fash support to make things like Hulu work?

Flash is limited by Adobe, they refuse to give out embedded licenses for anything past 7.0.

I wondered if they were ever going to upgrade Opera.  This is pretty cool...even though I hardly ever use it.

seems like a decent update. I really wonder why Flash is such a jerk about using its hardware. It's a FREE PROGRAM you download on the net, I don't get the resistance. I never paid a dime for Flash

I *think* PS3 supports Flash 9 now, so the Wii should too. Even if PS3 doesn't, the Wii should.

Vega as KDR said Adobe has all of the cards in this situation.

Can someone confirm for sure that PS3 uses Flash 9.

Yes it does, I booted up the PS3 browser.

Vega - Adobe's license allows PCs and Macs free access to it while specialty devices with web access require special licneses, even with those licenses Adobe gives a "lite" version of Flash which is essentially Flash 7 and Flash 8. My only guess is Sony found some kind of loophole because you can install Linux legitimately on a PS3.

Maybe the PS3 OS and browser are linux-based and Sony was just able to use the regular Linux version of Flash for it?

I still use my Wii Internet Browser ALL THE TIME so this is great news.

I don't think Flash is opensource so they'd still need a special build to run it on their CPU.

Correct, Adobe licenses flash on desktops and laptops it's free however on specialty devices the manufacture has to license it from Adobe BUT for those specialty devices Adobe usually only licenses out a lite version of Flash.

lol if flash was open source, that would be amazing.

An open source Flash is under development: http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash/ (http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash/)

Ya I know, but it's only the equivalent of flash version 6 to 7. It's damn far behind.

I will not be downloading this again, until Nintendo fixes the storage solution.  My Blocks are too valuable for an internet channel to use up.

This sums up my feelings, unless they update the flash so that I can watch NHL GameCenter Live with it.

I really don't get why Adobe cares, if Wii or PS3 or whatever uses it. They get money from flash banner commercials either way.

Same goes with iPlayer.

It is kind of funny I tried using the PS3 browser and it SUCKS big time compared to the Wii Opera browser. It is slow, clunky and unintuitive, so much for hi-res! BTW has there been no word on this update?

Funny this was brought from the dead. It was confirmed that this was a prank and there isn't an update coming to the Internet Channel, at least not officially.

Sad. I really was hoping for it!

I'm not surprised (though still disappointed) to see that this update isn't real. I don't think the Internet Channel could handle some of those supposed features, such as the tab browser, as even as it is now, it runs slower than my 10-year-old computer. Ouch.

Use the PS3 browser, you'll see what is slow

Really? But I thought the PS3 was some all-powerful being machine? The PS3 was bested by a 10-year-old PC! Wait until this little doosie gets out, then maybe its sales will finally taper off!

I guess the Cell processor isn't the super computer we were promised it would be, huh?

Or supercomputing just doesn't work for internet browsing...

Blu-ray movies and games? *shrug*

Actually Sony made the browser themselves so that is why it is so clunky.  Plus, not much feedback about how bad it is makes them not need to update it.  One thing it does have is Flash 9 which makes Hulu work on it, something the Wii does not have.  That is the only reason I use it though.
I don't use PlayOn because I don't have a fast enough PC and it's a wireless connection. I'm working on fixing both of those things though.
I still wish 2.0 happened though.  It was some nice features.

Wii probably can't handle Hulu anyway, at least not in it's current form.

There is always a very real possibility Nintendo will update the browser in the future at some point. However, if they do it would probably be as a patch and not as a 2.0. Flash 9 and PDF support are two things they could and should add via a patch.
