Title: Lost gamer looking towards the light...
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on November 08, 2008, 07:26:10 PM
The elections are over, the campaign is done, so now my time is free.
I feel like I haven't been here in so long(even though I've popped in from time to time) that I don't even know whats going on any more. Who is who? people are changing their names which is confusing cause I recognize the titles and sometimes even the avatars. But I really want to ask all of you a favor.
Can you catch me up on whats been going on for the last 10 months? has Nintendo taken over the world yet or did the Wii end up being a fad? what in the **** is the DSi & why am I going to buy it? What games have I missed that I must add to my collection, whether I actually play them or not? What are the big rumors? the soon to be released mega hits? Whats new & what should I be looking out/saving up for? When are new colors for Wii being released. Please catch me up. I'm looking for the crash course with links & pics and all the works if possible.
thanx in advance.

This is a thread for Nintendo's Fall conferance (http://Http://nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php/topic=26178.0)
The Wii is currently the top selling console in every territory. It is at 35 million. 15 million in NA.
Hmmm Wii games you should have are Mario Kart Wii,SSBB,Okami, De Blob, Wii Music, and Tales of Symphonia:Dawn of the New World.
Between Now and the end of the year are Tales of Symphonia:DotNW, Call of Duty,World at War, Mushroom Men and Deadly Creatures.
Coming in 2009 are The Conduit,Madworld,Arc Rise Fantasia,House of the Dead:Overkill.
There are not any new colors for the Wii yet. Nintendo pushed up production of the Wii to 2.4 million a month.
I am sure more that I missed like DS games and other consoles but I will let someone else talk about them.

There are a few new users as well TheNorthSea,Snipper64,Mr.Adolf Vega come to mind. I played 2 mafia games and lost one. The sonic one.I helped find who was who as the investigator of the Mafia in the Charlie Brown one. There was a huge debate afterwards.

About the Tokyo Game Show nobody made a thread about it but go to youtube and type in TGS 2008.Also ToS:DotNW and COD:WAW come out on the 11th. Although TOS is selling early in NY at some places.

Who is who? people are changing their names which is confusing cause I recognize the titles and sometimes even the avatars. Professional 666 is now NinGurl69 *huggles. TVMan became nickmitch. DAaaMan recently changed his handle to DeDeAr_cyber-lawler,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 'sup?, and we're all hoping he changes back very soon. Someone else is now Zap, but I can't remember his old name at the moment.
Can you catch me up on whats been going on for the last 10 months? Wii keeps selling hand over fist but still gets excluded from all the reindeer games.
has Nintendo taken over the world yet or did the Wii end up being a fad? Wii has almost 50% of the current market share. Will be over 50% by year end.
what in the **** is the DSi & why am I going to buy it? Bigger screens, couple of cameras, SD card support (w/ downloadable games), no GBA slot. Incremental upgrade.
What games have I missed that I must add to my collection, whether I actually play them or not? Mario Galaxy is a must if you haven't already played it. Brawl and Kart, of course. World of Goo (WiiWare). Everything else is good but miss-able, depending on your tastes.
What are the big rumors? the soon to be released mega hits? Next year holds Punch Out and Sin & Punishment 2. Little King Story will be awesome, but no one will buy it.
Whats new & what should I be looking out/saving up for? You'll need $200 for GH4/RB2 if you're into that sort of thing. Other than that, I'd recommend getting the games you missed out on this past year. Most seems to think this holiday season is fairly lackluster for Wii owners.
When are new colors for Wii being released. When people stop buying the white consoles (i.e. not for a very long time).
Please catch me up. I'm looking for the crash course with links & pics and all the works if possible. The new forum software we got back in February doesn't mark all threads as read when you close your browser. Everything you missed should still be in a blue folder. Time to catch up on your reading!

Wii has about 50% market share!? SO who's gonna be next to release an underpowered yet innovative (read: gimmicky) console? Sony, MS or Sega?
I have SMG & Brawl & plan on buying MKart & Okami. I have no idea what World of Goo is and am not really interested in GH/RB or WiiMusic. Did DeBlob actually turn out good?
Now that the DSi can play games directly off of the SD card, does that mean the Wii can do it now too? what about external HDD support?
I'm looking forward to Punchout, but any word on a Kid Icarus or a Mushroom Kingdom Hearts?
Whats the deal with Monster Hunter 3 and should I still be interested in it? What about Disaster: D(el)ay of Crisis?
p.s. DeDeAr_cyber-lawler,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 'sup? is a horrible screen name and we should get him to start a thread in the Funhouse titled "Change the Name of the Poster above you" and lock the thread as soon as someone replies with a suggestion.0
edit: Just looked up some stuff, but I have another question. What has been announced for the Motion+ besides Wii Sports Resort, Tiger Woods & EA Tennis? What about a Bushido Blade type game? Does Red Steel 2 use Motion +?
Title: Re: Lost gamer looking towards the light...

De blob was given by Mr.Jack a 10,Okami and World of Goo also did.Same reviewer.Market share for the Wii is 47.7% while 360 has 30% and PS3 has 22%.There was a solution to the hard drive problem but most find it is not the correct solution. You can't play directly of of the SD card. I am not sure on the specifics. Kid Icarus hasn't been confirmed.Ign was saying it was going to be at E3 but it was a no show.Basically E3 was hyped to the top of the world and everybody was disappointed.Disaster has been released in Japan and Europe but sales haven't been good.Australia will get in a week.Reggie said if sales were good in Euroland than NA would get it.European members are hesitant to buy it but Plugabugz is going to rent it.

Sega.

Well, the new thing is buying and downloading directly to the SD card. That's their solution. It's coming in Spring?

No.

NOA is still pretending that D:DoC doesn't exist.

Yes.

Is there anything on the other side I should know about? Did MS or Sony do/have something that I should be jealous of or be mad at? Like MS/Sony ripped off another Nintendo idea, game or innovation(read: gimmick)?
Did anyone buy any other companies? If so which ones? what games are they making?
I hear Nintendo hired a "Sarah Palin" for the Marketing Rep position in SF. - She couldn't name a single gaming magazine? ... oh Sarah
BTW I haven't really touched my Wii in months. is there any new updates I should check for? Any new channels that have come out? Anything interesting on the VC side of things?
edit: Is anyone tracking downloads from VC & WiiWare? How successful is it? how much money are publishers making?

Last I heard MS had their own "avatar" type thing for the 360 (coming out with a new dashboard release) which people can customise ala Miis. I'd do some investigationing but I don't give a ****. This was something out of E3 I think.
Also, welcome back. You didn't miss much (or perhaps we both missed it if something in fact did actually happen) ...

MS announced Avatars at E3.There are some patents for a Sony motion controller.
Blizzard and Activision merged together.
Cammie Dunaway was hired. She was at E3. There are some updates but nothing earth shattering.Check Wikipedia and type in Wii system software.
Channels: There hasn't been any original channels since Check Mii out. There has been Game related channels like Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit Channels. Both are on the Disk for installation.
VC:Secret of Mana, Super Mario RPG, Megaman 1-3. Wiiware launched in May I believe. Lost Winds came out on launch day and a sequel was announced the same day.World of Goo and Megaman 9 came out.Megaman 9 went back to the classic style of MM1 and 2.

The forums have been slowly turning sexist, racist, political, and more hilarious. You missed some pretty awkwardly funny moments.
There haven't been big arguments about games except for Wii Music. Man, you should have seen that bitch fest! It was great, yet familiar in a sad, nostalgic sort of way.
Stories of drugs, sex, and rock & roll have been more frequent. Hell, every story I tell has at least one of those element in it.
These forums seemed to have lost something ever since Nintendo has become the proven winner this generation. I feel that we forum goers had a better time when we were the unique class of gamers, rather than the populous. There's hardly anything to discuss or drool over. It's more like we're just waiting to buy a game then give basically the same opinion about it. That's why you may notice more threads appearing in the General Chat or FunHouse. It's because we need some sort of conflict and Nintendo has been doing too good of a job for us to split into the usual anti/pro Nintendo camps.

A unique perspective in the GH/RB vs. Wii Music debate. It always seemed to be a "one or the other" thing. Rejecting both? Interesting.

I agree... thankfully I'm still here. ;) I argue it has nothing to do with what sort of job Nintendo has done but just that after two generations of ineptitude all but the most loyal Nintendo fans abandoned them and the non-gamer focus and continually poor third party support hasn't earned them back (or at least hasn't earned them back enough to identify themselves as a Nintendo fan and post on a forum like this). Naturally it would make sense that those loyal enough to stick around until now would be less critical of Nintendo. Essentially the unconditional Nintendo lover makes up a huge chunk of the Nintendo fanbase and that isn't going to result in much discussion. I'm in the minority in that I'm loyal but not unconditionally so and thus face the conflict of wanting to be loyal while seemingly being pushed away by Nintendo. I want to continue to be a Nintendo fan but need a reason to be and thus want a reason. This results in a more critical point of view but one that admitingly is not going to be as common.
Though Nintendo also is super tight lipped about stuff now and it isn't exactly like third parties are making tons of announcements. A lot of the time there isn't any noteworthy news to talk about.

In the last 10 months NWR's sanity meter has dried up like Wii boxes on a store shelf, like Sega's reputation, VC storage space, or a PS3 owner's checking account.

What's really funny though, is the last time and only time I was called a pig by a girl, I had just learned she liked it when guys would play in her mud....if you catch my drift. You could imagine how hard I laughed at her. I savored that moment....it was delicious.
I already apologized for being inconsiderate (that's why she came back right?), but I can't help it. I'm a victim of the 21st century.

I'm in a very similar position to you, bnm. I am waaaay behind on games (can you believe I still don't have SSBB? It's an outrage!) and behind on forum happenings and I've just kind of grown adrift of gaming. Not permanently, of course, I hope to get back to it. But I'm not really in a position to. All of my gaming friends are in different states and I haven't met anyone worthwhile here, plus much of my time is consumed by work and my efforts to write a novel.

Well, I'm sure you all knew that I was running the sales thread for quite a long time, so one thing I would like to know is; "Is anyone tracking downloads from VC & WiiWare? How successful is it? how much money are publishers making?"
Other than that, is there anything worth mention that I haven't thought of? Related the site, its members, Nintendo, its games or anything else videogame related?
edit: what good games have come out supporting the Wii Balance Board?

Hmmm I remember back about a month ago I saw some numbers for the VC/WW but I haven't come across any more. Do you want the numbers or just the ranking of a peticular title. If it is the latter than I know where to find those easily. If it is the former than it will be harder to find.
Let me see The Conduit got a publisher.Sega is that Publisher. DS is getting Chrono Trigger. It comes out Nov 25th.No more Heroes:Desperate Struggle is going to be on the Wii but it will come out in the first quarter of 2010.
Wii fit comes with the Balance Board. There isn't any other way to get it. The Snowboarding games and Skate It use it as you might expect. DAaaMan64 knows more about them. Wii Music uses it for the Drums in Drum Mode.
A good site for balance board coverage is Http://balanceboardblog.com
If I think of any more I will let you know.

Just looking at the first 20-or-so titles in the list, there's a surprising diversity to the library so far. And not having to buy the Cube component cable for $70 offsets the rebuy of Zelda and RE. Might have to plunge....
I just hope I don't feel too sore when I get DPed by Metal Gear and ICO, needing to justify the 1080p-120Hz-xvColor-etc LCD I finally caved on.
