"It was a dark and stormy night..."
The day of Halloween was approaching, and an ominous feeling of foreboding settled over the town. At that very moment, a young girl was planning her Halloween party. Suddenly maniacal laughter rang out! A door slammed. The neighbor screamed.
Hey guys, here's the low-down for the next mafia! I'm Snoopy, and – seeing as I'm a published author – will write the story in this style at the beginning of each day.
I'll put up more details later, but for now here are the basic rules/roles I am planning on using. (Disclaimer: these may be tweaked slightly before the game actually begins.)
Roles Townies Charlie Brown (spokesperson – appears as a regular townie if investigated, and can submit one secret message each day to the host—me, aka Snoopy—to appear verbatim in the day's story)
Marcie (detective – using her sharp intellect, Marcie is able to investigate any one player she chooses each night. However, some roles will appear as townies even if they aren't, so be careful!)
Schroeder (whore – music can soothe the savage voter or mobster, and change his target's vote to whomever he wishes.)
Peppermint Patty (vigilante – athletic and slightly dim, she can carry out hits to help the townies. BUT, if she kills two innocents instead of mafia, she dies. special note: Peppermint Patty can take out Lucy without dying herself.)
Pig-pen (because he walks around in a cloud of the dust of ancient civilizations, it's difficult to get an accurate lock on him — there is a 50% chance of failure if he is targeted for a hit or any other sort of death. The only 100% sure-fire way to get rid of Pig-pen is to vote him out.)
Townies (you know the routine with this role)
Mafia Linus (godfather – appears as a townie if investigated, and calls the shots for the nightly hit. In the event that he is voted out, he must tell me who becomes the new mafia godfather in his place. role edited Sunday, 10/26, 10:30pm
Linus' Blanket (mafia investigator – when Linus is with his blanket, he is able to investigate one player each night. note: Linus' Blanket makes the choice of player to investigate, not Linus.)
Sally can target a player and negate all his/her actions for that night—a vote and a night action if applicable, i.e. investigations, hits, etc.). (Loyal and smitten to a fault, Sally will stand by Linus, her "Sweet Babboo.") role edited Sunday, 10/26, 10:30pm
Lucy (suicide bomber – Linus' older sister gets so mad if she is voted out that she takes out half (rounded up! :o ) of those who voted for her when she goes. Peppermint Patty can take her out safely. (Yes, the suicide bomber is on the side of the mafia this game.) role edited, Sunday, 10/26, 10:30pm.
The Great Pumpkin (the great pumpkin will not be in the game straight off the bat. A normal townie will be chosen at random to be transformed into the great pumpkin and join the mafia at the start of Day Three. On the next day, and every third day afterwards, (so, day 4, 7, 10, etc.), he/she can make a hit. this hit is to be sent from the great pumpkin character, not from Linus, as Linus doesn't control the great pumpkin even though they are on the same side.)
Special rules or exceptions 1. Schroeder:"I wouldn't marry you unless you were the last girl in the world!" Lucy:"Unless?" S:"Yes." L:"HOPE!" If Schroeder is still alive and all female-roled characters except Lucy are out of the game, Schroeder will join Lucy in the mafia. 2. Schroeder (cuz she's got a crush) and Linus (cuz it's her bro) are immune to Lucy's "suicide bombing" even if they voted for her. 3. Charlie Brown (cuz she's also got a crush) and Marcie (cuz they're friends) are immune to Peppermint Patty's vigilante attacks. Attacks will still be announced in the thread, though, as failed, providing valuable evidence for everyone. 4. If, by some streak of GREAT/EXCELLENT/CHEATING luck, all starting mafia members are taken out before the Great Pumpkin comes into play, the townies win then and there – the Great Pumpkin will not enter the game. 5. If, by some other weird streak of happenings, Charlie Brown and Sally are the only roled players left in the game, Sally will reject her mafia ways, defect to her brother's side and cause a townie win.
Voting Voting will run each day from... when the day's thread is posted until the next night at 10pm Central time (that's -6:00GMT, I think, for anyone not in the US). Night actions are due 30 minutes after that, and the new thread will be posted that night before I hit the hay.
Characters are required to vote once every three days. If you do not vote, you will die. Similar to the way Khushrenada handled it last game, I'll post who needs to vote at the beginning of each day.
Ties in voting will be handled in a similar way as well. The thread will be left open for an additional 10 minutes, at which point people may still vote, or change votes as they wish. If it's still tied after this, one of the unfortunate vote-"winners" will be randomly selected to be offed.
SO! Those are the rules I've come up with so far. I've tried to stick true to the characters and their relationships with each other to decide win conditions and side-changing exceptions. This might cause some confusion at first, but as the game goes on, should provide some added drama and uncertainty, thus keeping the game dynamic and allowing strategies (and perhaps allegiances!) to shift all the time.
If you have comments or questions, speak up! I'll do my best to answer/address them as soon as possible. Otherwise, post here if you'd like to sign up. :) I'm hoping for a good number of people. If there are enough, I may add one more role to spice things up further.

I meant to add, since this is Halloween, you can choose to be whatever Peanuts character you want, even if they're already in use as a role. Like, you could choose to roleplay as Lucy if you're feeling grumpy. Or Woodstock if you want to type like this:
Woodstock: '' ''' ' ' '' ' ''' !!
I mean, it's Halloween, so it could be explained as it just being a disguise/costume, right?

Edit! One other thing: while custom avatars aren't required, they make it more fun. If you want to make your own avatar, go for it. If you don't know how or don't want to or whatever, just let me know and I can make one for you (provided I can find a pic of your character).

Lucy seems a bit over-powered, but what the heck--I'm in as Rerun.
She's kind of over-powering in the strip as well, so it's fitting. :P There are checks and balances for every position, also, such as the vigilante being able to kill her safely, and Schroeder being immune from her "tantrum."
Of course, if everyone feels the same way or not many people sign up, I could always tweak the role.

The suicide bomber role works when both sides have an equal chance of voting for her the person. But if the bomber is on the mafia side, it means that only townies are going to vote for that person and it could have really horrible effects for the game. Not only will townies be afraid of voting it means the mafia will be able to control the votes because they don't have to worry about accidentally targeting the bomber. Personally, I think the role should be toned down a bit--for example, she can choose to take out two townies from the people who voted for her instead of all of them.
Also, what happens if both Linus and Sally are taken out? Does the mafia no longer have an acting Godfather and therefore lose the ability to kill at night (besides the Great Pumpkin)?

edit: oops, haha! The godfather just names the successor, and it goes from there - they still get their nightly hit.
As for the bomber being on the mafia's side, I can see that point, but on the other hand... the data gained if Lucy were to be voted out would be especially useful to the townies. I'm not going to go into details, as that's for you guys to figure out, but... yeah.
That said, I'm still totally open to discussion on the role, and weakening her if necessary.

ALSO, to everyone: Guys, there is LOTS of strategy that could happen in this game, and clever ways to use most of the roles. Think about things... something you think is a disadvantage could be turned to an advantage if your team works together. I'm not going to give things away here, but if you start to really consider the strategies, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the flexibility and opportunities.

First off, townies have to vote smart when there's a suicide bomber around. Not everyone should bandwagon onto a vote until it's safe. Beyond that, though, I guess I'd like to see how many people end up signing up to play. That'll make it easier for me to tell if this role will be unbalanced.
Also, you're only thinking about the obvious strategy, vudu. :evil; There's more if you delve deeper...

As long as you intend to play the game, welcome! Don't worry--we won't bite. However, please don't sign up if you don't intend to play. It lessens the enjoyment if there are too many players who sit and do nothing.

Khush, you told me not to reply, so I didn't. The ellipses represented you, though, because I really did want to say something.
As far as being stacked against the townies... well, maybe I'm seeing some tactics you guys aren't seeing yet, or maybe I'm just seeing it as ideal for 22-25 players (which would make for an abundance of townies). With that many townies, the mafia would have their work cut out for them if you ask me.
I'm still debating cutting Lucy's powers down a bit. I'll decide on that when I see how many people sign up in the end. I really do want to make it balanced. In fact, some tweaking and clarifications have already been made, so yeah. If you have suggestions or comments, keep 'em comin'!
Lastly, Gylldas, just read over the rules, and if you have questions, now's the perfect time to ask. :) I'll do what I can to help, and I'm sure lots of others will too. I remember my first time playing mafia, and how confusing it was. It gets easier when you start playing, don't worry.

EDIT: If you guys haven't decided already (and I think Stevey may be the only one so far, based on his icon), make sure you choose a character. If you don't, one will be assigned to you for story purposes. There are some lists to characters on page one of this thread, so go check 'em out if you need help!

Stevey grabbed a great character and the best looking of all those interpretation pictures he displayed.
It's been awhile since I've changed my avatar but I think I know the character I should choose. The Cat Next Door. That should put the fear into players.

Thanks guys. I'm just a bit confused as to the picking of characters. Since the main characters have a role already you can't choose them right? How are they assigned exactly? Also I'd like to call dibs on the teacher if it's available. The gibberish honking...could it be innocent nonsence or the devil's language... OOOO mystery!!!!

The picking of roles are by the host.This game Decoyman is the host.Once the game begins Decoyman will send you a PM detailing what role you have been given.
The character picking that we are talking about are changing our avatar.For example stevey picked Lucy for a avatar. Now Lucy is on the Mafia side but when stevey gets his role he could be a townie.It is more of a psychological thing.If you don't care for that just pick your favorite character for your avatar. Did I explain it well Gylldas?

Mafia mates know each other. Of course, since the Great Pumpkin doesn't come around until Day 3, they won't know that member until Day 3. Whoever ends up being the great pumpkin, previously a townie, will be PM'd at the start of Day 3 about their change in allegiance.
Now, I can't enforce things like this, but I urge you not to break the game and go against the mafia if you have any bizarre sense of loyalty at that point. Your win conditions change once you're notified as the Great Pumpkin, so please play to win.

Ok everybody, roles are out!! (as of 45 minutes or so ago)
I also wanted to let you know, I've tweaked Lucy's powers... Take a peak at her revised role info, as it appears in the Roles post:

Edit: When I was editing Lucy's powers, I also edited Linus and Sally, per a good suggestion earlier in this thread.

Unfortunately i cannot attend in this. I've been in guyana up until this morning, trinidad until tomorrow morning then new york for the remainder of the week.
