Discuss!!! I also conveniently posted the email via screenshots

This seems pretty weird considering the originals were just released on VC.
Bravo Atlus for realizing there's a different market for VC games and handheld remakes.

Interesting...I like the game enough that I'll probably break down and buy this too...

I only care about Ys for Yuzo Koshiro's music. Is that a crime?

Mabye they decided the time was right because the VC has just introduced Ys Book 1 & 2 to a new audience.

Well Ian Atlus is one of those rare companies that listens to it's fans as a part of what to localize to America(as long as it's remotely profitable) and the VC of Ys Book 1 & 2 probably created a big topic on Atlus' message board.

ATLUS UPGRADES LAUNCH COPIES OF LEGACY OF Ys: BOOKS I & II TO PREMIUM BOXED SETS WITH SOUNDTRACK CD INCLUDED IN EACH AND EVERY COPY Also, the game is slightly delayed
Let the spoils persist, Faithful! We're bringing back Atlus Spoils in 2009, and first title to get some love is Legacy of Ys! What was once a pre-order bonus soundtrack CD is now packed in with each and every launch unit of the game. The whole package is boxed, making for that oh-so-collectible vibe that's impossible to resist.
You're wondering, "What's the catch?" We're glad you wondered. Alas, we'll be delaying Legacy of Ys a couple weeks, a trifle really, to beef up the game's launch. It's going to be a harder year for buying every game you want, Faithful, and we want to make sure that any of you who invest in an Atlus product feel like you're getting your full money's worth, beyond just the action RPG awesomeness that awaits you inside this particular package.

Good looking out for the fans. Wish more companies did this...
Must've missed all the Ys hype back in the day. So is this just a fresh coat of paint, or are they going all out (Touch screen controls, new localization, beefed up soundtrack, etc?)?

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/CONFUZZLED_MUNKIE/legacyofys_glamourshot_small.png) <--- Here's how the new boxed packaging looks like basically it will have your standard DS game case and a sleeve with the CD all inside a box.
DJ it will have a new 3dish graphics, you can play the game old school style, like a normal hack n slash action RPG with buttons and they will also have a stylus control scheme.
In Japan Ys 1 and Ys 2 are on separate carts so Atlus USA basically is combining both Ys 1 and Ys 2 DS into 1 cart, Atlus is also redoing the localization and they have a good localization team.

The info video trailer on the Nintendo Channel is all anime cut scenes and it's 1993-esque anime-riffic, at that.

But I just got Ys on the VC a little bit ago... Though I am still being tempted by this. Whats the price going to be?

:P That's a bit much for me considering I just bought the VC edition. I might pick it up at a bargain price down the road.
And yet you think 40 is worth it for Chrono Trigger DS which is a out sourced port by TOSE(not questioning the game's quality just stating the obvious) with a crappy preorder bonus of a CD with 2 songs and a folded up poster. While Falcom remade their own game and think about it this way, In Japan Ys Book 1 and Ys Book 2 are their own seperate games and Atlus USA is going out of their way of combining both games into 1 DS game card without any degradation to quality and even giving it a premium packaging of a free soundtrack CD.

I didn't own Chrono Trigger before the DS version. I played it on ROMs or borrowed it from friends. It was one of my favorite games I played but never owned.
Ys was just purchased by me a little bit ago. I've not even finished beating it. It was fun, but I wouldn't pay $35 for it even remade.
I've re-bought several games when they were remade/re-released -Ten years or more after having bought the original.
I don't re-buy games I bought a few months ago. I also don't typically pre-order games either unless there is enough of an incentive to do so (like the OoT Master Quest disk or the Rogue Squadron Arcade disk).
