Oh most definitely. I've been pondering very hard about making some comic book-ish stuff just for fun.
Hopefully maybe you'll guys will be able to see my art style in a movie/video game/cartoon/something one day.

I like these drawings. You've made some really interesting creatures.
To help with the quality of your images, have you thought about using a scanner? It sounds like you're at college - are there any computer labs with scanners you could use? And if you're only working with ink, even a fairly inexpensive all-in-one printer-copier-scanner can give you decent enough scans.
I've been scanning and working with images on-and-off for a few years now (I started at college). My avatar is one of my more recent projects. It's just a hobby for me, but I'd be happy to offer any tips or bits of info I've come across so far.

i drew this like 3 years ago for an illustration class, the teacher wouldn't let me use ink, so the colors came out all blotchy. I like it though. I had to photoshop it because its hard to photograph
heres one i did for a contest, i found out about it late, so didnt have time to make it look too great, probably have the best coloring though

WTF!?! Hahaha first of all I didn't even realize you'd posted these, I thought it was Spinzilla at it again. Looking back, nothing here seems to be his style anyway.
Ok, now with that out of the way here's my WTF descriptions/feedback:
1. The girl in the first 2 pics, who i'm assuming is Shelly the Shatter, has odd preportions in her face. Not sure if you were going for a caricature look or not, but everything just seems kinda, big. (not a wtf moment by the way, i'll put those in bold)
2. The third pic with that creature eating the camel looks like something out of a RATED M FOR MACHOOR Twilight Princess or something. Its pretty bad ass, i especially love the glowing eyes in the background. Epic stuff really.
3. The comment i made about the samaruai cock sparring was in jest. My only critique is that its a little hard to visualize two things. One being the foreground. The solid black behind the characters seperates them from the shrines/dojos in the back to the point I thought i was looking at two seperate pictures. The second is the samurai on the right. Not only is he too blurred, but he lacks detail. The guy on the right clearly has a nose, eyes, mouth, ears and heck even a jawline, but what about the other one? If i wanted to be a dick, i'd say it looks like a hologram (ala Star Wars) vs a ghost.
4. That dude looks way too happy to have that giant patch of hair/mutated scorpian thing on his chest. Its hard to tell what the focal point is supposed to be.
5. Not sure if a chubby, out of shape Conana the Barbarian is what you were going for, and if so awesome, but if it was I would've posed him differently to reveal a beer belly. Again, not sure of what i'm supposed to be focusing on here but if is a "what if Conan was over the hill and out of shape?" a double chin alone won't cut it.
6. Last pic reminds me of Eternal Darkness, so its automaticaly good ;)

I added the actual photo above. nah thats not shelly the shitter, but it is her ex-roomate. She has way too much class to **** in my car. The drawing her nose looks a bit too bulbous, which i should fix by widening the bone
heres the shitter http://www.youtube.com/user/thepermman#play/all/uploads-all/2/bzzbujxsgZ4 http://www.youtube.com/thepermman#play/uploads/5/yzq1n7DCnTc
thats a Valkyrie tattoo on the guys chest, i've been told by others i should have just left it off. What i should have done is drawn it separate and photoshopped it on.
the barbarian dude drawing i know is a mess..it looks pretty photorealistic, but at the same time i really never made the face look right. I photoshopped a ninja scarf onto it, but i forgot to save.
base images for samurai action http://www.thelooniverse.com/movies/japan/JoiUchi.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nagoya_Castle(Edit2).jpg your gamma might be low, from the sound of it it looks darker than it is on your screen

If I'm going to create a thread for drawings, I'll call it "The Drawing Thread" not "ThePerm's Drawing thread", not "This User's Drawing Thread". So, rather than creating a separate and confusing separate drawing thread for everybody else I just used this one.
I'd imagine most threads would follow the "Original Song Compositions" thread or the "in the dreamtime", or the "Dying Relatives" example.

yeah its scorpion, he's supposed to be a spectre which is a fancy type of ghost, so i made him more ghost/zombie like. I wanted his rib cage and heart to be visible, and i wanted his clothes to look like they've been through hell. I also wanted it to be like all his layers are transparent. He's essentially Mortal Kombat's version of the ghost of Christmas past, except he is a ninja. I'd imagine it would be cool that he starts off totally regular looking, but as you play his skin begins to rot, and then he catches on fire, and it starts burning away like plastic bags in a fire.

The person that taught us had one big piece full of scales, and it just looked so awesome it made me want to make one even more than I already did.

Title: Re: Spinzilla's doodles. now with a thingy made of roots. I guess.
Post by: Caliban on July 10, 2011, 12:04:00 AM
How long? Hmm, as a rookie it will initially take 2 hours (1 hour each spent understanding the weave, could take a lot less depending on hand dexterity and perseverance) on the first class because we were learning to do them lol. I can give you an estimate based on my current skill, for the chainmail it might take 15 minutes to build that 1 inch by 1 inch piece, and the scale 10 minutes at most to join 6 scales (with simple rings, that piece is using coiled rings which are quite finicky to weave with so it will take longer) which would also be more or less 1 inch by 1 inch.
I actually have wanted to see how long it takes me to weave a piece, so next time I do some weaving I will make sure to record my time.
I do have to mention that there are other types of weaves which I have yet to try, Japanese (simple), Byzantine (moderate), Persian (advanced). For both those pieces I used the European (between simple and moderate difficulty) weave.

Title: Re: Spinzilla's doodles. now with a thingy made of roots. I guess.
Post by: Caliban on July 13, 2011, 07:41:07 PM
You can get 100 scales, 3 pliers, and some rings for more or less $30 to start you off, and I'm talking about the cheap stuff. Bare in mind the materials I have were given to me as part of the class payment, so it was at the instructor's discretion to what he chose from this website: http://theringlord.com/
Heavy? They're aluminum scales, so not heavy at all. It's less than 100 grams now I think, but I would have to weight it properly on a scale that is a lot more sensitive.

I love to have one roughly 100" x 50" to hang on my wall. Is it possible to paint them?
A mural? I guess you can paint them, or you could just use other types of anodized scales.

I was thinking about putting an emblem on them. I had an idea to make a family crest for months. What better canvas than armor scales?

Haha I've also been thinking about my family crest/coat of arms, but I agree with you.

oh they're aluminum, so about $1.30 a pound. It wouldn't be too terribly hard to make a mold from the exisiting ones and then melt down some cans and make them yourself.
