Title: Mafia XXVIII: Sonic The Hedgehog. Sign-up now. Win The Sonic Chronicles RPG.
Post by: Khushrenada on September 29, 2008, 11:22:31 AM
Well, after a string of "controversial" games, Sonic figures he can't do any worse by having a game themed after him. Oh, how wrong he is.
Sign-ups end this Sunday.
Sign-up's so far:
stevey - Metal Sonic Nickmitch - Big the Cat DAaaMan64 - Rouge Pale Plugabugz Insanolord Spak-Spang Anti-Thatguy - Espio Stogi Easycure Decoyman - Chao Toruresu Dasmos - Sonic Golden Phoenix - Tikal RABicle - Cream Maxi - Knuckles Silks - Amy Rose Mr. Jack - Dr. Robotnik Vudu - Who knows? Bustin98 - Tails Mario - Marine
That makes a total of 21 people playing.
PRIZE TIME:
It's been a little awhile since we had a prize and this is something I've wanted to do for awhile. The prize, however, will not be given to the winner of this mafia game. This mafia game will only determine who gets to play for the grand prize. This is done for the benefit of good players who get killed early and to keep the mafia game light. No need to get people stressed over a prize.
To play for the prize, I will outline certain requirements that have to be accomplished. Those who fulfill the requirements, will then be eligible. Those eligible will then play a brief round of trivia in the NWR Chat room. Winner of the trivia gets the prize.

The Rules:
(plagiarized from Pyropizm)
Everyday each player is allowed to vote for whomever they believe is mafia. Since all roles remain anonymous, mafia members will vote along with the townies.
Each day a new thread will be made and will open up with a narrative. Each player then has the chance to vote off another player. Simply type in BOLD for whom you wish to vote. You may change your vote as much as you like.
You must vote at least once every three days. If three days pass without a vote from you, you are dead.
Every night, the mafia is able to make one hit. These are not based on calendar numbers, but rather on game days. The only one who may contact the game-master with the kill is the Godfather.
For the townies to win, they must kill all mafia members and "Other" roles.
For the mafia to win, they only need to tie the game. I.E., there are two townies left and two mafia members left. The mafia would also have to kill the "Other" roles just the same as the townies.
For the "Other" roles to win, they would have to fulfill the requirements of their role. Those requirements are explained in each role description.
The Roles:
Townies
Detective (Red Chaos Emerald)
Every night, the detective sends the host the name of a player he would like investigated. That player's role is then revealed to the detective unless they have a special ability to hide it. Any player with such an ability will be mentioned in their role description.
Doctor (Blue Chaos Emerald)
The doctor may protect one person of his choice any 4 days. That person is protected from the vote for the day as well as the night actions unless otherwise specified. The doctor may even protect himself if he chooses. But he can only protect on 4 occasions.
Town Spokesman (Green Chaos Emerald)
A green emerald? How redundant. The townie spokesman may send the host any message they want to be published in the day's story. The spokesman doesn't have to send a message if he doesn't want to but the option is always there. Maybe the spokesman can say what others towies are scared to come out and say.
Death Escape (50 gold rings)
Collect those rings to survive an enemy hit. With the 50 rings, you can survive any attack once. Whether it be a night action or the daily vote, it's your get out of jail free card.
Extra Life (Grey Chaos Emerald)
Sometimes people in die in this game. Alright. People always die. But wouldn't it be nice to do something about it. Now you can. With the grey chaos emerald, you can choose one living person and replace him with a dead person. The dead person takes over the living person's spot meaning any power the living person had now belongs to the resurrected player. Unlike the other abilities, this player can use his ability if killed. He could take the spot of another player he chooses or still send in a different dead player. There is one exception. No mafia member who has died can be brought back.
Chaos Control (Purple Chaos Emerald)
One time use only. The player with this ability can cancel all night actions for one night of his choosing. Any ability used that night will not work. No hits, no protecting, no investigating. Nothing.
Mafia Roles
Godfather
The godfather is the head of the mafia and every night he sends the host the name of the person he wants killed. However, the godfather also has another role this game. He is responsible for choosing his mafia's powers. He has the choice of the following:
Mafia Detective
This member of the mafia can investigate players also. He can do this every night.
Mafia Doctor
Stevey's favorite role. This mafia member is the same as the doctor but he can only use his powers 2 times.
Mafia Pretender
This mafia member can choose any role and will appear as that role if investigated.
NOTE:
There are 3 other mafia members along with the Godfather. That means that not every mafia power will be used, so the Godfather will have to think hard about what roles he wants his mafia made of. Players will not have to worry too much about all the roles. Just check in when the mafia is decided and see what roles it is made of. Roles not used will be removed.
Other Roles
The Killer (Yellow Chaos Emerald)
So, I've become a fan of the show Hereos in the past couple of months. And probably the most interesting thing about the show is one of the best villians I've seen in awhile. Sylar. What makes him such an interesting villian is his ability to take other peoples powers. And that is how I am going to base the killer in this game.
The killer has no allegiance. He wants to see the death of the townies and of the mafia. He can make a hit every night. However, the killer can also gain other powers. Any person he hits who has a role will him give him that power. In order for the townies or the mafia to win, the killer must be removed from the game.
Now, since I can see a few questions arising about how certain powers will work with the killer let me give you a quick rundown.
Townie:
Detective - gains the power to investigate Doctor - gains the power to heal but can only use however many protections are left. Townie Spokesman - can send out misdirection Death Escape - The killer gets the 50 gold rings to then survive an attempt on his life Chaos Control - Negates all night actions except for the killer's Extra Life - If the player with the extra life is hit by the killer, the killer takes the chaos emerald for his own use.
Mafia:
Mafia Doctor - Can protect with however remaining protections are left. The Pretender - Can make himself appear as any role he chooses if investigated. Mafia Investigator - Can investigate every night. If the killer gets both investigative powers, he can investigate twice a night.
The Godfather - Since the Godfather's main ability this time was to choose the roles of his mafia, the killer may choose any one of the abilities the Godfather didn't pick for his mafia to use himself.
These would be:
Mafia Muscle
The killer chooses a player and nullify's his role for the next day. If he correctly chooses the player with Chaos control, he can prevent that player from using it the next day.
Mafia Recruiter
The killer can recruit one person. However, if the killer wants to recruit, he can not make a hit that night. Moreover, the recruitment is a 50/50 shot so it might fail. The mafia can only recruit one person called a "Rookie". If the rookie is killed, the killer can recruit a new person to take the place of "Rookie". If this should occur, I'll let you know what the Rookie can do.
Mafia Tiebreaker
A twist. This time if the vote comes down to a tie, the killer can decide the result. With the killer being able to decide the townie vote, it might be best to avoid ties.
Mafia Con Artist
The killer can subvert a role 2 times. What this means is, the killer chooses a player the day or night before and changes the target of that role if they have a role.

Yeah. I've decided to give away a videogame. Do DS games still have region encoding? I.E., if someone from OZ wins, could they play a North American game?
Brief details on the prize are given above in the first post.

prizes involved? How nice!
I probably won't end up winning so i'll just pretend there is no prize.

Still? There never has been any region encoding in any Nintendo handheld system ever.
And can you give out a good game like Rush instead a crappy RPG spin off?

Rush wasn't a good game, but c'mon, don't look a gift-horse in the mouth, stevey. If he wants to give something away, accept it graciously or say "No, thank you."
I can't believe someone's complaining about a free prize already!

I wasn't sure if there was region encoding or not. For some reason, I started thinking there was. But that's good since it means anyone from around the world could win the prize.
And I thought about Sonic Rush but I figured most would have it by now. I thought Sonic Chronicles was still another week off from being released. Maybe some players will have picked up the game already by the time we're done playing.
I could make the prize Shadow the Hedgehog. I don't think many people have that game.
Why did I double post?

I've got a question: Is the town informed when the doctor protects someone, but the person isn't targetted? When does the protection begin, during the day or during the night? My understanding is that the doctor chooses to protect during the day, and on the same day, the protection begins, and concludes at the start of the very next day.

Post by: Khushrenada on October 04, 2008, 01:09:54 AM
Protection begins by sending out the order of protection before the night action deadline is up. I.E., on Day 1, the doctor sends in his protection order during the day. On day 2, that person is then protected the whole day. Moreover, people will know that person is protected. It will be announced at the start of the day.
Other roles are up.

So the "Death Escape" is a role that has to earn rings to escape from death? That's not an ability free for any townie to use, if they have fifty rings, right?
And the "Death Escape," if he has fifty rings, and the killer targets him, what happens? Does he have to tell you when he intends to use the ability? Actually, I'm a little confused, to be honest: Does the death escape just need to be killed twice? So that would mean for the killer to gain this ability, he'd have to hit him on the second time, right? Is it that the "Death Escape" automatically has fifty rings, and if he dies by killer, the killer gains a fresh "fifty rings," also?
And, to that effect, if the Death Escape is targetted by the Killer or mafia, for when he will survive, will it be announced? Will the actual player be unveiled? If the Killer takes an ability, is the ability of the dead player revealed? I know, I know, I'm asking a lot of questions, but I'd rather find the answer out now, than assume otherwise. It's funny, though, because I'm not going to take this game seriously, yet I'm still concerned about all the rules.
Title: Re: Mafia XXVIII: Sonic The Hedgehog. Sign-up now. Win The Sonic Chronicles RPG.
Post by: Khushrenada on October 04, 2008, 08:06:09 PM
Death Escape is a role. The player just has 50 rings. Like the game, if you hit an obstacle, you lose all your rings but you survive. Next time you hit an obstacle, you die. The player with this ability is just able to survive one attack. That's all. So, to get rid of them, they would have to be attacked twice. Once to get rid of the rings and once to finish them off.
For the killer to get the rings, he has to attack the player first. If the killer attacks the player the second time, it is of no use to him. The 50 rings have already been lost. It's like a battle. You hit a player and their rings fly out and then you collect them while they are stunned. Let's face it, once the player has escaped death once, they are just a regular townie, they have no more ability.
If a player uses death escape, he will be revealed. After all, to escape a vote, it would have to be revealed. Any ability the killer takes will be revealed as well.

So, in the end, it did mean that the reviving player could become a mafia member? I've got to learn to ask about these things, when I saw the word "ability," I believed you meant the night-action got taken over, but not the side the player was on, too. Grr, this is the second time I've misinterpreted things like this in your games, Khush! Next time I'll try to be more on the lookout.
