Title: Sorry to say this but I'm just not that into Final Fantasy VI (gba)
Post by: AV on September 01, 2008, 11:49:08 AM
I bought IV on GBA 2 years ago and LOVED IT. Played from start to finish. So this summer I bought VI and I heard such great things about it so I was hyped.
Well now I am I think half way and I don't know if I want to bother keep playing.
the airship just crashed and I'm looking for some city, and I'm pretty damn bored with the game overall.
It just seems like the game is a one big tease. It seems like everything is wrapping up and end of game is near and nope, just a false climax. Any of the bosses have been easy as dirt and totally forgettable. The game just feels like a run on sentance and just keeps going when a long time ago they should of stopped but they don't see that and just keep teasing the ending but decide to continue on with the sentence and by the time you get near the halfway point you feel like it doesn't even matter anymore.
I don't see myself finishing the game and gamestop said they will give me $9 which seems good.
I just can't get into the story, it just seems like they stretched out the game. I very much enjoyed FFIV but this not so much.

The story in 6 is so good, you have to dig deeper than that to experience it. And the main nemesis in the story actually does become the ruler and god of the world and he even molds it where everyone else has to live in fear, not even the "all oh mighty" and overrated sephiroth becomes that. And that's the point of the story you seem like it's wrapping up but it just opens up a whole new plot it's one of the best story telling in a Final Fantasy title ever.

Ironically, I'm actually in love with VI, but I could never get into IV on GBA... I have the exact opposite problem you do!

I just can't get into the story, it just seems like they stretched out the game. I very much enjoyed FFIV but this not so much.
FF6 was my favorite of the series, followed closely by 4. Although 5 had the amazing Job system which set the standard for the Tactics games. But to each there own.
I don't see myself finishing the game and gamestop said they will give me $9 which seems good.
NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! Do not give into Gamestop. As a former EB Games employee, I know first hand that you are going to get screwed over if you trade that game in. $9 for a rare and popular Square RPG?! Are you crazy?! Sell it on Ebay, seriously, check it out:
Dude's getting about $20 for his with no box or instructions and he's throwing a $5 shipping charge on top of it. Don't be a fool. In fact, I demand that you watch the following 9 part video series before you purchase or trade anything at Gamestop:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_D45dRcehg
That's just part 1 of the series. Everything this guy says is 100% true. Don't be lazy, do Ebay and make real money, not pretend Gamestop money.

You don't need to apologize sir. I would have never liked this game anyway.

Bosshogx I watched the 3rd episode of that series. He tells it like it is.

Epic truth. I'm just doing my part to insure that the corporate Gamestop machine one day goes away. Power to the Gamers!

I used to put stuff up on Ebay but I freaken hate paypaly. Every other month i would get " your paypal account is having security problems.". Not only that but they take away allot of money in the transaction fees and it takes a LONG time to get the money deposited into my bank. Also Ebay customer service is terrible and its just to much of a hassle to put a game on ebay all the stupid HTML code.
I haven't done this stuff in like 5 years, but those experiences back than really gave me a bad taste in my mouth.
If I trade it into gamestop I get $9 off my purchase of the new castlevania game. Since I paid like $14.99 for the game new $9 is like really high % on my return.
ebay is a hassle period.

I'll mail you a $10 check with a SASE for you're copy of FF6. I'll then turn around and sell it on ebay to insure that 1. it goes to a gamer who really wants it and 2. Gamestop gets nothing out of the deal.
I'm serious, PM me if you're interested.

I'm playing through this right now as well, and I've enjoyed it so far. I think I've completed most of the optional quests, but I'm trying to finish them off before going to the final area.
If you haven't sold it yet, I'd give it another chance. Even though the World of Ruin area initially seems a bit more non-linear than the previous parts of the game, there is still a good bit of plot and character development left to enjoy. I'd agree with bosshogx, though; don't sell it to Gamestop. You get more back for the game if you just sell it to someone yourself.
Hear, hear, to everyone who praised the villain in the game. He's one of the best FF villains, and it's easy to dislike him because he's so darn despicable. In general, the game does have some memorable characters, and a quirky sense of humor, as it doesn't seem to take itself as seriously as IV did.
I do wish that they had limited summoning and magic use to a few characters, though. Giving all the characters an option to learn the same majic abilities makes many of the characters somewhat redundant.

Umm No. I very much enjoyed Final Fintasy IV on GBA
I sold it to Gamestop yesterday.
After i went to the bank I went to gamestop which is right next to it. (who knows why)
Anyway I always look to see if they got new demos and anything cheap to buy and to tease myself.
Anyway they had a 3rd party Wireless gamecube controller for $17.99.
I got an email this weekend from gamestop for 20% off any used accessory.
So I printed out the coupon and took some stuff.
Final Fantasy IV GBA DS Rumble Pak Konami: collector series GBA
Got $10.75 for it all.
With the 20% off
I ended up only paying $3.93 for the Wireless Cube controller which is pretty good deal to me.
I tested it out at home and it works great. The main control stick seems loose, but it doesn't effect how your character moves. I got 30 days guarantee, NO rumble, but I am very pleased. Pelician G3
I got Mario RPG on Virtual Console which is taking some of my extra time. I just stopped caring about that game.

Your reasoning makes little sense when you say you liked FFIV, with the way all of that worked with how many Crystals there are and all that. At the point you're at, there hasn't been anything to lead the player to believe the game was about to conclude. Did you have trouble following the plot? Where did you find the game was teasing you at? When did you think it was going to end. With RPG's, leveling up does make the game easier, so, let's be honest, complaining about the game's difficulty is a little pointless.

All the epic fights I thought it was ending soon. It just seemed to have lots of climaxes. I just wasn't that into the game. 4 was my first FF game and this being 2nd and being so similar i guess that aspect of being more of the same with different story turned me off.

There was only one fight I'd bring consider close to epic at that point in the game, and that's the battle at Narshe. What other fights did you think were that epic and climactic?

Narshe was the big one, but all those times I fought that gay looking guy I thought he was the final boss and he wouldn't die

Are you being serious? Did you even give the game a chance? That's Kefka, he's one of Gestahl's generals, of which there are three, which has been well established at the point you were in the game. Celes is another one, but you might not know who I'm talking about. The third has made a quick appearance twice.
You understand that at your point in the game, the villain is the Gestahl, Emperor Gestahl, I'd hope. Kefka works for him. Of course, the first hero you meet, Lucca, never regained her memory, either, and the mystery of that creature that you defended at Narshe hadn't even been solved then. Have you been reading the dialog? Are you having difficulty comprehending it? At every point in the game you've played through, including Narshe, it was clear there was more to the story than one more quick fight and an ending, much more to the story, really. Oh, and much more to the character development, too. If you had given the game a fair chance, I'd give you no grief about it, but if you felt like there were several climaxes in the game and that defeating the general, Kefka, would end it at that point, you must not have been paying attention.
Or, perhaps you read some spoilers and learned that Kefka becomes the final boss, but at this point in the game, other than the behaviors and insanity Kefka shows, it's clear he's not the main one the Returners and your characters are after. If you're basing your decision presuming you already know the story of the game, it's clear you are not entirely informed, too.
Were you able to follow FFIV's plot alright? You said you loved it, but didn't the "false climaxes" throw you off there, too?
