Title: Ugh... Metroid Prime Errors
Post by: Wesisapie on April 07, 2003, 12:29:56 AM
I got Metroid Prime today, PAL, i live in australia. so after all this waiting, i get to the first boss bit, beat him cause he's easy, then i gotta run away cause it's gone critical. so i do that, and what do you know, "An Error Has occured while playing Metroid please read your nintendo book blah blah balh blah" so i go "ok, maybe that was just a one off." restart, beat that boss again, run through, then i only get about a minute further than i did last time, and there's the same error. I couldn't be bothered reading the booklet cause it's always retarded crap for newbies. The disc isn't scratched, i put it in right, it's a brand new copy. Has anyone else had this error? i'm gonna go return it if it keeps happening. Also, could it be my memory card? (it seems to happen when i scan new objects, which would load data into the memory card, etc)
Thanks in advance.

nope, my copy of metroid is running swimmingly, and has been erm... running swimmingly for the entire time i was rather concerned when i first booted it up how long it would last, i really didn't want to have to get my cube fixed, but no, no problems at all here (this ofcourse doesn't help you one bit)

Possibly something do with the memory card...then again, the game usually has to load the data for the creature when you scan it, and loading seems to be the cause of all the NTSC crashing.
Anyway, that sucks. I haven't experienced any crashing on my PAL version (been through twice)...so I can't offer any advice, sorry. =/

also, i took the memory card out and put it back in after attempting to clean it (with air) and that might have helped.

I am SERIOUSLY considering it.
I'd love to play through the game a second time. It's been an enjoyable experience thus far, and I liken the "upgraded game" to the MasterQuest.

The voice in the intro wasn't present in the US version, enemies are sposed to be harder, and they claim doors take more shots to open. Mmm, yes. I always shoot it once, and get stuck once it's opened, because it's still loading the next room, so Samus just walks on the spot =P

That same problem happened to me twice at the beginning and throughout the game. Something I found that worked quite well is making sure that the gamecube has enough space on the sides so that the fan can keep it cool. Maybe it was a coincidence, but if I pulled my cube out, I did not get the error message. Hope this helps

Yes, it has stopped now. But it was annoying when it happened. Also, it's exactly what super metroid would be like in 3d! how cool is that! i didn't think they would pull it off but they did.

scanning is heaps of fun, for some reason. (although i imagine it would be crap the second time through) i just beat that other boss now, the one that is poisoning everything. yeah yeah i am not all that far into it, but i haven't been playing long, parents keep kicking me off the TV

Hey Wesisapie. The first thing you might want to check is to make sure you are not blocking any of the vents on the console. Your GameCube overheating could be causing Methroid Prime to lock up on you, check to make your console is in a well ventilated area. Another idea would be to play without a memory card, yes you can not save your progress but trying this may help you narrow down your problem or you could swap your memory card with a good known spare. I have a copy of Metroid Prime and it has never locked up on me nor have I received any errors via my GameCube hardware. Hope this helps.

I'm from perth, in australia.
bought the game yesterday as part of a pack (gamecube + game)
the freezing is so damn annoying it's not funny
first freeze was when i scanned something in one of the rooms in chozo ruins with a spider ball magnetic track
then it froze again when i scanned the first turrets you encounter in magmoor north
then froze again when i spent another half an hour getting from my save point to back to the same turrets, merely tried to shoot them this time and it froze again
then it froze when i was scanning the pillars where you find the first chozo artifact
but it's weird - the music doesn't freeze, the display locks up. i press a button (i think start) and the screen goes black, but it's still playing the music
AND NOTHING ELSE
so i have to turn the power off and back on again, because reset won't work
this is the most goddamn annoying thing ever, with save points being so rare between all the time consuming things you have to do ;( ;( ;(
but what can you do?
unlike pc, there's never any hope of a bug fix / upgrade.
sigh

I guarentee you it is not the game......Im from Australia and own the PAL version and it is falwless!!! It would most probably be something to do with your memory card or a scratch on the disc.....even if it is small.

how could it possibly be the memory card??
the only function that has is to load the game at save points
.... when the game freezes, the memory card isn't doing anything at all
it is the game, i guess it's just my bad luck (and your good luck!) that mine has frozen and yours hasn't
or something
the nature of the freeze suggests it's my game - if it was the cube or something else, then it would completely freeze, but the music continues to play after the video and controls freeze up. it's evidently a programming flaw... ;/
but then again, i know little of how the game nor the memory card nor the cube itself functions, so yeah it could be something else i suppose - but i doubt it.

Sorry I just dont want to believe that its the game........I try and think of every other possibility before I start considering the problem to be the game itself......
For instance I had the same problem TimeSplitters2......actually almost identical to what you are saying......on the Chicago level it would freeze but I could still hear the music and sounds......on careful inspection of the disc I found a very small scratch towards the centre of the disc on a certain angle......maybe this is the case with yours because they do scratch pretty easily.

OH MY GOD! The exact same thing happened to me when i was playing Timesplitters 2 on my Cube. I was playing the Chicago level, i was outside in the rain, heading towards those stairs and the game just froze on me, but i could still hear the music.
Anyway, Ive finished Metroid Prime twice, i live in Australia, i have a PAL GC, i have PAL Metroid Prime, and it's never frozen once. In fact, its the most flawless game ive ever played! Now im off to beat it for a third time with my brand spankin new Wavebird! Metroid Prime is the best game evah!

My NTSC version froze up twice at the beginning (at the very first elevator, when it runs the FMV to show you coming up out of the elevator shaft). It never froze after that.
I figure it's a bug that happens when it loads off the disc.
