Title: Nintendo's evil plan, stay away from Brain Training
Post by: Mario on August 07, 2008, 03:26:39 AM
They are trying to make people dumber, angrier, and take control of as much of our TIME as possible, for maximum profit. Nintendos Brain Training games APPEAR as if they are good for you, but no this could not be further from the truth.
The damn game is the reason I cried myself to sleep last night. It's designed to make you feel bad about yourself. No matter what score you get in any exercise, it will display the top 3 scores when you are done, taking up the entire right screen. This is basically what the game says "hey, pretty good score, but here's three BETTER SCORES! You are clearly getting DUMBER! Idiot." unless you break the record every single time you play, you're going to feel stupid. When the calculations exercises get to a point where you're gonna fail if you have to write a 3 or 5 because they take forever to draw, you're not going to get a high score.
Now after this bullshit, Dr Kawashima (the guy who came out and said videogames are bad, he doesn't just hate us he hates himself) will spout out about a million lines of text you have almost assuredly already read. This is very bad for your brain and makes everything stale. The game wastes a crap load of time. You can do about 5 minutes of activities, and have wasted 15 minutes. The stupid "3,2,1" counters before each minigame, the "tips". Any quick brain training session you may have planned is quickly killed by the doctor opening up with some little "puzzles" before you can even get to the menu. Like acrostics, if you are in a rush you end up just writing anything here rather than thinking of something, so when you look back on it and it makes no sense, you feel like a giant retard. Let's give this one a try! SOMA, SUCK ON MY ASS.
The goddamn retarded piano exercise is a great example of all these things, it wastes so much time, it plays the damn song not only BEFORE you play it, but after. Yeah that's helpful, i've just played the damn song you idiot, I have no input now. In fact it's the last thing I want to hear. Look at its hard mode, you pretty much HAVE to be a piano player here otherwise you get a big LOSER stamp on your already fuming mad red face. "If you don't play, why not give it a try? ;)" BECAUSE A PIANO COSTS ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS, AND I'M SPENDING ALL MY MONEY ON BRAIN SOFTWARE. In fact, playing Piano would be EASIER than this, because THE NOTES WONT RANDOMLY SWITCH ON YOU. They have NO LABELS, sometimes the far left one could be G, sometimes C. What the ****? There's no way to tell until like halfway through the song "oh looks like you SUCK, here's the song you should have played again", hee hee!
The only good thing implemented in this school kids project shitty excuse for software is custom stamps. I have made my stamps smiley faces in an attempt to counter the furious anger this game creates with anyone stupid enough to play it. (me, thanks to Nintendo)
Now why would they try to make us feel this way? Well, they are trying to make us feel dumber and more annoyed so we'll buy more Brain games in an attempt to get "smarter", and at this point we're so dumb taht we don't realise ALL the brain games pull this crap on us. Sight Training, don't get me started on that. The game with the HARDEST BRAIN AGE "test" OF ALL. If you don't get an absolutely PERFECT score, your Eye Age will be like 38. "Oh dear, that's not good. Good excuse to start training more!" Good excuse to SHUT. UP. Wii Fit does exactly the same thing, but its time wasting skills are unmatched. You could have your Wii on for half an hour and get like 3 minutes put into the toaster or cookie jar or whatever the **** that insulting thing is. It's gotten to the point where Nintendo are openly making fun of us, and we can't even tell. Because we're stupid. Because we've been playing Stupid Training.
The reason they are taking up so much of our TIME is so we have less time to play real games and so eventually they wont even have to make any and they can do nothing all day. Oh look, TWO HOURS have just gone by doing a simple math quiz and some pushups? Well, that's all my "leisure" time for the day! NO TIME FOR ZELDA!
Share your Brain Training / Sight Training / Toilet Training experiences.

My stamp is a maple leaf :)
But seriously, it happened worst for me in the first Brain Age with the 20 simple calculations. I was so awesome at that game, and I kept getting better. Then I hit the wall at 9.8 seconds. That score has mocked me since.. I just can't beat it. I get to the point of nearly tearing my hair out after making the most miniscule of writing errors and having to press Start to redo the thing again over and over.
Then I realised that I didn't need so much stress.

It's odd. The first one really addicted me, but the 2nd one even if its a better made game just didn't hook me.
I sort of feel like the original poster were I got frustrated and never really cared to play again. When I have down time I rarely say "i want to exercise my brain" I tend to just want to play some tetris or something for a few minutes and space out than test my brain.

9.8 is very impressive, but if you can't get it every day then it's just not real.

My stamp is a pirate. It's the only reason why I pick up this game every few months.
9.8 seconds is awesome.

I stopped playing this game when it told me I was a super genius and didn't need it anymore, although I hope that someday someone will see my awesome rendition of the Mona Lisa that looks just like the words "WHY DO I HAVE TO DRAW A FREAKING PICTURE WHEN I JUST WANT TO PLAY SUDOKU?!?!"

Ever since I first played Brain Age I've always wondered this...
What if you gave the game to a genius or a child prodigy? Since they are geniuses they are likely to blow through the first exercises and get a perfect rating, will the game give them a perfect rating, or lie to them and say that their brain is tired?

How does CrossworDS fit into Nintendo's plan?

A lot of it is training for specific tasks, the things you do in Brain Training aren't general intelligence stuff. Without training I'd say there's a good chance that person will score badly too.

Video games and the internet are a tag team of badness invented for the singular purpose of reminding me that everyone is better than me at everything. So don't let Brain Age get ya down.

I thought up a mode that needs to be in Brain Training 3, a never ending calculations mode where you keep calculating til you drop. That's something only really a game could do and could train you well for long mental tasks like reading Ian posts or endurance racing.

I think there's already a third Brain Age game, released just before Kawashima stopped working with Nintendo.
