Someone needs to teach the VG Cats guy how a comic strip actually fucking works. He just doesn't get it. There's meant to be a setup, then a punchline. That's it. Short and quick. As it stands here, the punchline is a pea dying. That just isn't funny.
Scratch what I said. http://www.vgcats.com/super/images/080711.gif He knows how comics work, he just isn't funny.

What are you talking about? The last 3 frames are hilarious!

Maybe if the peas were labeled "NWR Staff" it'd be funny.

What the hell is this "we" ****? Weren't these the same GC-haters last gen? And now they wanna get back in the club now that it got popular? I know I don't want my opinion lumped in with Scott Ramaslamadingdong's.
And where's the JOKE of this comic? Wait maybe the joke IS the comic, and how poor it is.

The reason the comic isn't funny is because the author and artist wanted to express his 'rage' towards Nintendo rather than to make a funny comic.
This is something I've picked in not just web comics but comedy in general. Sometimes comedians and writers let their personal feelings rule over their works, and sometimes it just ruins the joke.
In other words, there's a difference between making a witty observation and making a statement.
Scott chose to make a statement and tried to disguise it as humor.
On another note, am I the ONLY one annoyed at his art style? He overuses the same comedic expressions (HUGE eyes with maniac grins and such). It doesn't matter which character he is drawing, the expression is the same.

Why'd you suddenly switch over to talking about Ctrl+Alt+Del? 8)

I prefer Castle Vidcons' humor -- and they don't have to rely on facial expressions!

Neither does XKCD. But Yahtzee over at Zero Punctuation did a nice review of web comics in general, I guess.

I good Web Comic about E3 was from Penny Arcade, which showed the Microsoft Press Conference, Sony's and Nintendo's...it made basically the same point, but was infinitely funnier.
The problem with this comic...is that it is LOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooNG winded for its point.
It uses like 6-8 panels to tell us something it could have done in 3 or at most 4. And it hurts the humor, because you just are waiting for the point.

What is the point of using the vegetables besides, well, um using vegetables? I see no real relation to the point. You could put any characters into this with the same dialog and it would fit.

It's a running gag of sorts. It started here (http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=86), I believe.

Not to mention that there are TOO MANY webcomics about Nintendo's E3 phailure.
I understand its the hottest topic right now, but all the jokes have been made and its time to move on.

Penny Arcade already nailed E3 this year. There is no reason for any other comic in existence to refer to it.

Lil Formers had the TF comic gig sewn up as well until the guy decided to switch to "any pop culture icon I damn well please" instead of just Transformers.

LOL Penny Arcade dealt with Crystal Chronicles in a much better way too. "And I dont have any firends so I'm gunna have to buy 3 hookers to play with"

Oh man, I forgot about that one. You can say whatever you want about Mike and Jerry "selling out" and building an empire around their cartoons, or whatever insults they're throwing around on YCS these days, but that comic was pure gold.
And Mav - no hotlinking. Its been covered before in this thread. Good thing the guy has set up his web server so he can kill paltry attempts like that.

Ii just counted it was 15 panels. And that just doesn't work.
I get the idea of pacing and have wait time within the comic...but this wait time was void of anything humorous.
1)Peas Die, 2)Another gives up hope, 3)Only on remains at the very end.
It is a poorly contrived joke. It could have been done with 6 panels.
Panel 1: Wait here as I show you this brand new toy. Panel 2: Time Passes. Spring Panel 3: Time Passes. Winter Panel 4: Time Passes Spring again...and fewer peas...perhaps tombstones in background. Panel 5: Potato comes back with Lays around neck, Pina Colada in hand and money in the other. "Where have you been..where is the toy." Panel 6: Potato: "Oops, funny story...I ran into these people that started throwing money at me Panel 7: "Beep, Beep Beep" From Beeper of Potato. "Oh the limbo contest is starting...gotta run."
I just cut the comic in HALF, and made it more entertaining, funny, and lighthearted.

While I agree that the comic was unfunny, you people complaining about the length are just silly. How long did it take you to read the comic--30 seconds at most? Half the panels don't even have any words. I greatly prefer this format to the comics that try to cram as many text bubbles into a panel as possible.
The biggest "innovation" of web comics is that the author is free to expand on the original 3-panel format because he or she is no longer limited by space constraints.
A picture is worth a thousand words.
Blah blah blah ...

Ya...that's bullshit. Calvin and Hobbes best comic strips were the ones that took up an entire page.

Wow. I am not saying there is not a place for longer comics. Calvin and Hobbes and many other great comics have proven that...nor am I saying that every strip needs to fit into some contrived format.
What I AM saying is that in almost every comic less is more...and you need determine what is absolutely needed to tell your joke and go from there. Pacing is important, and if you noticed I used 7 panels in my joke...far from the traditional 3 to 4 panels.
And it isn't about how long it takes to read...I read the comic twice, and the pacing is just off, and that is partially because of filler panels that do not provide anything extra for the joke.

The best sinfest comics are always the uber-long sundays. I look forward to them every week.
I also like the ones with the dog and cat.

There's a much earlier comic with Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo that is from. It just sort of stuck.

The "too long" problem is common among comics, not just in VG cats.
The thing with long, awkward pauses in comics is that it takes a lot of panels to create and what may have happened in a few seconds seems like an eternity in comics.
And for the record, I thought the comic did capture the drama behind E3 Nintendo rather well. It was just constructed poorly.
