When asked about the possibility of a new Pikmin game, Miyamoto briefly discussed working with multiple teams on multiple projects before breaking the news.
"We're making Pikmin," he said, offering nothing further.

Whatever happend to "the system," Mr. News Editor?
While I do love Pikmin Series, but as of late it seems more and more like they are just wanting to anger its base. Sort of like the exec's are around the table and trying to find ways to say **** you in more unique ways to the base that kept with them.
They will probably screw it up somehow and make it super easy and only carry 5 pikmin around because soccer moms will think the game is confusing. They will go and use Atari 2600 graphix because realistic graphics are not friendly to casual 90 year old gamers. And it will release in October 2009 and have a piece of plastic attachment that looks like a pikmin flower that does nothing, and require balance board to walk no nunchuck you need to run like in real life and waggle the controller to do anything.
Nintendo will find a way to screw this up, just wait and see. They don't give a **** about hardcore gamers anymore they only care about girl gamers, children and elderly.
Wii has become the console of 3-12 year olds, Girls and 35-100 year olds. If your 13-35 the games are not coming for you.
damn this E3 i had so much hope, and now I wonder how much I'll get for my Wii if I trade it in.....
There is no Nintendo sequel that I would rejoice over more than this. But this isn't enough info for me. It gives me hope sure but it's not enough. This could be on the DS and I want it on the Wii. It could be a spin-off. It could be altered for non-gamers. It could be farmed off to some B-team. It could be a remake. So I want to see it first. I want to hear impressions. I want confirmation that it's what I actually want. A few years ago "we're working on this" was good enough but not anymore. I'll admit it makes me a bit giddy if I think too much about it but I've got to stay grounded. I don't trust Nintendo anymore so I have to wait and see.
Isn't it interesting that instead of asking about what was shown all the gaming media outlets are asking Nintendo about stuff that wasn't revealed? The questions have pretty much been "where's the good stuff?"

Hasn't Pikmin always had a more casual side to it? Management is simple and anyone can play it. Now to get good at it you need to practice and think, but it isn't like the game was ever a "hardcore" game going by its gameplay design.

What Nintendo game IS hardcore?
What Nintendo game IS hardcore?
What Nintendo game IS hardcore?
Fire Emblem.
And Animal Crossing because nothing says hardcore like a game that even though you play the heck out of it, you can never beat it!

This announcement reminds me that I still need to finish Pikmin 2. I just get sooooo bored in those caves.

Naah, you can't beat The Sims either.
A lot of people assume that the DS touchscreen and Wiimote are both perfect for Pikmin. To me part of the wonder of the game was that it was kind of an RTS but done on a console and done in a way that it not only worked without a mouse but you had no desire for one. Same with Metroid Prime which had FPS elements but found a way to make it work on a controller and in a way where if you weren't being a close minded "this should be a Halo killer" jerk you didn't need it. In fact if Pikmin was more popular the same people who complained Metroid Prime didn't control like Halo would have complained that Pikmin didn't control like Starcraft.
So I'm a little concerned about using the obvious mouse-like features of the Wiimote or touchscreen in Pikmin. To me that goes against the whole point of the game. It's not supposed to be a run of the mill RTS. I like Metroid Prime 3 but it felt like it catered more to people who wanted an FPS instead of the people who liked the other Prime games. I would like Pikmin 3 to be for people who liked the other two Pikmin games. For example if they change it so you can command Pikmin from afar without Olimar or some other "general" like character I think it would really hurt the design.
It's all like auto-jump in Zelda. The people who see a third person 3D game and think it has to play like Super Mario 64 demand a jump button. Anyone who actually plays the game without wanting it to be something it's not realize auto-jump is perfect for the game its in and that adding a jump button would either be useless or would affect the game design to make it more of a platformer. Pikmin would not benefit from playing more like an RTS. It benefits from being different.
