Okay, by this point we all know that Animal Crossing Wii will be shown off during Ninty's press conference on Tuesday, and that it'll sell gangbusters just like the DS version...So how about some fun speculation to pass the time? What's that you say? Does Bill have a wish list?
...
Well, maybe a few... (http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/BillAurion/Assorted/428.png)
Game imports your basic Mii (Mii masks that can be gotten at Harriet's), which can be edited using in-game options
The ability to actually choose where you want to live, rather than having to choose from pre-set locations judged from vague questions
World layout more akin to the structure the GC version rather than the globe of DS (World structure is "planetary"); actually have a sense of topography difference
Different regions of the village map to travel to (such as an inner forest, etc); exploration aspect?
Possible ability to arrange the terrain at the beginning of the game (streams, etc)
On that note, the ability to use your money to purchase things to make your town flashier; for example, a large fountain, a bigger town hall, a venue for K.K. to perform in, etc…
Interactions with the Wiimote (Fishing, digging, painting the house!, etc…)
Evolved physical abilities like swimming and jumping
Largest house should be mansion-like (the previous versions’ final houses were too small!)
Ability to edit the external appearance of your house (more than just being able to change the color of the roof)
Ability to move your house somewhere else if you changed your mind later on
Relationship meter that actually shows your status with villagers; villagers that actually hold grudges against you if you are mean to them; villagers that can be mean just for the hell of it; ability to kick villagers out without just ignoring them until they leave
Ability to actually befriend the “set” characters like Sable, Mabel, Nook, etc outside their respective shops…
Ability to set dates with villagers to do things with them to improve your friendship rating (such as agreeing to go fishing, catching bugs together, etc…)
More unique tasks that are not fetch quests, like telling a villager to stop teasing another or helping to rearrange the furniture in a villager’s house
More random events, like a villager has something stolen and you have to interrogate all of the villagers to determine where it went
More events, period: like actual birthday parties, picnics, auctions, or any other events that don’t necessarily need to be pre-set dates [Bunny Day, Auctions!]
More villager congregation: in the previous games everyone just feels really isolated and they don’t act as actual neighbors (perhaps even form couples?)
More things to plant besides trees and flowers (vegetables, bushes, grass)
More things to do with friends that come over (whether that be board games, arcade games, a game of tag, hide-and-seek, or a race/obstacle course)
More videogame-inspired furniture items
Wii/DS Connectivity for designing textures or “DS Island”
Ability to shake a tree and the bees go after other NPCs/Friends you’ve invited over to your village
Make it so friends who come over can’t uproot your flower beds (…….. >=| )
Ability to play more tricks on people besides pitfalls (fake explosive furniture, buried catapults)
Ability to import pictures from the SD card to use as textures (Most likely not, due to people having the ability to lay pictures of goatse across their town)
Separate screen for the dump…Or a new character: a packrat that lets people leave junk in his house!
Cooking!
Ambitious? Quite...I will most likely end up disappointed just like I was with the DS version (though that didn't stop me from playing it and enjoying it for months...)
Oh, and don't even bother wishing for NES games...That's even less likely than anything I've listed... ='D
User requests:
Animal Crossing on separate planets = Spore Killer (ShyGuy)
Real-time weather, via the Wii's Weather Channel (Morari)
Ability to use dug-up/found gyroids as the one out front of my house (Morari)
Capture the Flag! (Deguello)
Open sea fishing for deep sea fish and relics! (Deguello)
The ability to murder Gaston! (Deguello)
Wiiconnect24 usage that could send extra daily task for special gifts or a few extra bells. (Hippie_Samurai)
A timely european release date! (Plugabugz)
If rude friends DO uproot your flower beds, they're punished for it. (ReverendNoahWhateley)
Ability to subtly influence which animals move to your town. If your town if full of garbage, the chances are good that you could attract animals like rats and grungy characters. Likewise, if you fill it with flowers, cutesy characters could be more likely to show up. (ReverendNoahWhateley)
Remember Fitness Day in the GC version? BALANCE BOARD SUPPORT THAT BITCH! or atleast let players interact more with the holidays and events. (EasyCure)
Fitness Day: use the wiimote to do arm revolutions, whoever does the most in a set time limit wins the prize. (EasyCure)
Fireworks Festival: show up early enough on that day, speak to the mayor and he'll ask you to volunteer. You play a minigame where YOU'RE the one setting off the fireworks instead of just watching their reflection on the lake (EasyCure)
Snow Day: same deal, you can choose to volunteer to string up lights around town via waggle. (EasyCure)
You mess up someone else's town by destroying their flowers and the next time you start up (back in your own town) you get chewed out by.... Ha you thought i was going to say Mr. Ressetti werent you? NOPE! It's COPPER TIME. (EasyCure)
Natural disasters. At any given moment, an earthquake can strike possibly destroying houses and splitting your town, luckily a tree falls over the gap and there's still a way to cross it, but you have to do a balance minigame with the balance board every time you want to cross it, and if you fail, you die and your file is instantly erased. An asteroid hitting and destroying everything should also be a very real small possibility, like real life. Strong winds can make your hat fly off so don't wear a hat when it's windy. Ability to look out your window while in your house, and the ability to spy on your neighbours through their windows, but don't get caught! You can uncover mysteries by spying and stalking people, and find murderers, and even frame people. (Mario)
Townsfolk can die, funerals are held, titled "fun-erals" where everyone gathers around trading fruit and designs and KK Slider plays. (Mario)
Ability to murder people. Invite them over to see your axe collection in the basement and chop them up into little bits, sprinkling them all over the beach, BUT, anyone entering your town may find dead body parts while fishing, then have the option to either alert the cops (which triggers a running minigame that goes on FOREVER requiring you to shake the wii remote, whenever you stop the police catch you and your file is erased instantly.) Otherwise you can kill the other player yourself. A game of scissors paper rock ensues and the loser is brutally killed in a graphic animation and their file is also erased. (Mario)
You can get in relationships with other townsfolk (no *** relationships) and make babies (see). If you play the game for 9 months or so a baby comes in the mail and can be traded for bells at nooks. If you play the game for another 15 years the boy or girl will break free of slavery and come and kill you, erasing your file. If you choose to keep the child (LOL! yeah right) you have the option to use it in a nice meal (this would work well with Bills cooking idea) or just hang it on the wall. No sex scenes though because I don't want it to be rated T or higher. (Mario)
I really hope this one goes back to the "everybody gets their own house" way of doing things instead of the making everyone live together like in Wild World. (insanolord)
The ability to visit friends' towns even if they're not online. (decoyman)
I would want Mii support in the game...however I want the game to take the Mii and redesign the Mii into a unique Animal Crossing character...including possibly changing your characters animal species and more. (Spak-Spang)
I would also love to see town themes, that are determined by how you answer questions...and these themes can be mixed with other themes to fit your entire family. (Spak-Spang)
I would also love for Animal Crossing Wii to see what games you have, and create special events for those that have access to Wii24Connect, Balance Board, Wii Zapper, Wii Wheel ect. These special events could be monthly Mini Games or such. (Spak-Spang)
Virtual Console Demo Days. I would love for the game to allow you to download a demo of Virtual console games to play like over the weekend or something. (Spak-Spang)
An ability to buy different style houses, and even buy/shape your town by buying neighbors houses and giving them different styles. (Spak-Spang)
An Ability to design your own shop/museum/Library for your town. Be able to check live fish not available in your lake and stock your lake with them. (Spak-Spang)
I would certainly love the ability to transfer your AA:WW character to the wii, its probably the only way I would pick up my little guy again and start mailing "the raven" verse by verse to all the town folk. (mantidor)
Event Idea: It would be to have an item that you can hide in your town...this item is a special rare treasure that only your copy will have, and you can name it...or even design the treasure. Then people that visit your treasure can try to find it...if they do they get to take back with them to their town and hide it. You will of course know if somebody took your item and can then search for it back...if you never get it back it is gone. Once you have stolen it, you can't steal it twice...however you will make a copy of it for your museum or trophy room or something...which can show how many items of your friends you have found. It is sorta like Item Hide and Seek. (Spak-Spang)
I want to be able to access the catalogue at any time and I would like a 'new!' tag over any item in Tom Nook's store that isn't already in my catalogue. Attempting to complete it is currently such a hassle. (blackfootsteps)

And I'll also be adding everyone's suggestions to the list so we can see which come true in the end...

I agree with everything on the list, especially the ability to have a much bigger house. Having all the rooms available and having them all decorated the way I liked took away a lot of the fun in the previous games and was the reason I stopped playing them.

Why planets? A planet is freaking HUGE, they could just put more towns on that planet.

How about, if rude friends DO uproot your flower beds, they're punished for it? Their town could get consumed by gophers, or they could get harassed by a militant hummingbird that humiliates them in public. I suppose that would just encourage a lot of people to uproot flowers, but perhaps it could also happen in single-player when you disturb flowers planted by another resident. That way, the novelty would wear off fast and it'd just be annoying.
Also, I'd like to be able to subtly influence which animals move to my town. If your town if full of garbage, the chances are good that you could attract animals like rats and grungy characters. Likewise, if you fill it with flowers, cutesy characters could be more likely to show up.

Thats a damn good list bill. It's everythign i could think of and more! you did give me an idea though..
Remember Fitness Day in the GC version? BALANCE BOARD SUPPORT THAT BITCH! or atleast let players interact more with the holidays and events. Make mini games out of them, heres a few examples (not using the obvious like the fishing tourneys):
Fitness Day: use the wiimote to do arm revolutions, whoever does the most in a set time limit wins the prize.
Fireworks Festival: show up early enough on that day, speak to the mayor and he'll ask you to volunteer. You play a minigame where YOU'RE the one setting off the fireworks instead of just watching their reflection on the lake.. (which always bothered me)
Snow Day (or whatever the generic winter holiday was): same deal, you can choose to volunteer to string up lights around town via waggle.
edit: i came up with an idea in addition to the Reverands. You mess up someone elses town by destroying their flowers and the next time you start up (back in your own town) you get chewed out by.... Ha you thought i was going to say Mr. Ressetti werent you? NOPE! It's COPPER TIME. Let him do some law enforcing by giving you a long winded speech about the evils of vandilism

Townsfolk can die, funerals are held, titled "fun-erals" where everyone gathers around trading fruit and designs and KK Slider plays.
You can get in relationships with other townsfolk (no *** relationships) and make babies (see). If you play the game for 9 months or so a baby comes in the mail and can be traded for bells at nooks. to be honest i dont think i'll get AC:Wii...
i stopped playing it on GC cuz real life took over my animal crossing life and i hated going back and seeing unfamiliar faces and weeds everywhere.
i thought i'd be able to play WW more than the GC game and stick with it but i felt like there wasn't enough to do. i actually missed the fetch quest (i know, its a first) in the portable version.
I barely have time to play any of the games i own so far, so playing one that goes by a real-time clock.. it just wouldnt be worth it for me unless i won the lotto and quit my job or found a way to work from home. And Animal Crossing w/o a real world clock would be lame, so i guess i'll have to hold out for either Harvest Moon or Rune Factory to start another cyber life in. Sorry Nintendo :(

An ability to buy different style houses, and even buy/shape your town by buying neighbors houses and giving them different styles.
An Ability to design your own shop/museum/Library for your town. Be able to check live fish not available in your lake and stock your lake with them.
Must I invoke MySims again? The game wasn't very good, but some of those base ideas could certainly be built off of to the benefit of Animal Crossing.

I really like the Capture the Flag game. The idea of a simple game that could be played among two townies where you hide a Flag and search would be great. You could play the game with 2 players online, and even have the town members of each town play as NPC opponents to add more to the game.
But the idea of Capture the Flag just brought up another cool idea. It would be to have an item that you can hide in your town...this item is a special rare treasure that only your copy will have, and you can name it...or even design the treasure. Then people that visit your treasure can try to find it...if they do they get to take back with them to their town and hide it. Heh, cool! I had the habit of mailing out and tacking to signboards MST3K quotes. Often, I'd put up a signpost with half a quote, and wait for someone else to notice it and finish the quote. Sometimes, they'd stretch into a three-panel.
Me: "Think you can take me?"
Someone else: "Go ahead on."
Me: "It's your move."

I noticed something creepy in the AC City Folk trailer at the press site
http://press.nintendo.com/E32008/
At about 1:44 into it the date 9/11 pops up for less than a second. It also makes reference to a person named Katrina (hurricane). "I think i'll visit Katrina myself" is the random quote from Wolf.
Nevermind, it's 9/1. Quicktime is crap and wouldn't let me replay it.

It's a stylistic choice...Surely you weren't expecting a huge jump in visuals for a game like AC?
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread of Speculation and Desire
Post by: Morari on July 15, 2008, 07:04:30 PM
Animal Crossing is fine stylistically. That said however, even the first game showed it's N64 roots through a large array of blurry textures. So long as City Folk has sharper textures it should be good, though a higher polygon count on some items wouldn't hurt.
All of the screenshots thus far look to use a much closer camera angle as well. Was the DS version like that? I'm not sure how fond I am of seeing the horizon suddenly disappear once it gets so far away.
I still want real-time weather!

Suddenly disappear? That's because the game is utilizing the same curved, "planetary" world that the DS used, which is a bit of a shame, but without it you couldn't really show the sky, so I'll forgive it...

I would like to see the visuals evolve. Zelda and Mario haven't remained the same in appearance. My biggest request is to have lots of new tasks and things to do in the new version. AC DS played very similar to the first one. Almost identical really.

Gee, I suppose so. Still, I like having the little NES's in the first game, and I want systems in this one. I saw an arcade machine and a pinball game in the video, but it was during a multiplayer sequence, and I couldn't tell if you could actually play them. Probably not, but I'd love if you could.

I sure hope you can play them, it's a stupid idea to let the player buy a videogame inside a videogame and not even give him a minigame to play. Sure, it doesn't have to be a full game but might prove useful as a testing ground for new ideas.
