Title: I've got 24 Hours to use up a $10 coupon. Which of these games should I buy?
Post by: DAaaMan64 on July 09, 2008, 07:00:33 AM
The list of games is on this page: http://www.gamefly.com/products/search.asp?k=&pf=1085&cat=10&sb=&pg=1&letter=&s=1&t=0&showall.x=18&showall.y=10

Don't include Battalion Wars, Dragon Blade or Smash Bros Brawl. I already own two of them and rented Dragon Blade.

Consider cost too because I'm not sure Baroque is worth that price to me yet.

Samurai Warriors: Katana might be what I would want. Or Alein Syndrome.

Thanks!

Personally I vote for Dewy's Adventure. I think it got a bad rap. The controls are a little finicky at first, but once you master them the game is actually pretty inventive and alot of fun.

Nitrobike is alright if you liked Excite Truck. It controls similarly, but isn't nearly as engaging. It also looks like ass. I paid $10 for it and I don't really feel bad about it. But like I said above, I think Dewy is a better call.

I would pick NiGHTS or Dewy's Adventure.

I'd also like to say that while Dewy is far from perfect, if you can overcome the somewhat finicky tilt controls, it's a worthwhile game, especially at a low price. It's got challenging levels, (mostly because you'll fall down with the controls some, and you have to start over from the beginning when you die) a beautiful visual style, and in-game advertising during the loading screens!

I recently beat Alien Syndrome with my younger brother co-op, and the best way to describe it is some sort of Diablo-esque (it's got random loot stats, so you're constantly choosing between items to determine what to keep) in space, but with guns, and dungeons that aren't random, but are somewhat reptitive and big. There are 40 levels in all, and each will take about an hour to beat. When I say repetitive, I really do mean that. The monsters spawn for a long time, and it takes forever for you to get out of the first space ship. The game is about 15 levels too long in my opinion... so since I estimate it's about a 40 hour game, it's probably 15 hours too long. If you play co-op though that does ease some of the pain if both players are fans of this type of game.

Harvey Birdman would be five bucks under this deal. That's not a bad price for a game that has one or two interesting cases, but essentially amounts to being a Phoenix Wright-Lite. Harvey Birdman, despite being completely voice-acted, and delivering on the show's humor and character, really makes you appreciate Capcom's meatier and more expansive writing in the Ace Attorney games that much more.

I've gotta throw a no on NitroBike and NiGHTS. I have utter hate for the disaster that is NiGHTS controls. The gameplay for me was absolutely fantastic... except for the controls.  Really annoying.

EDIT: NMH was added and I already have that. So scrap that idea too.

EDIT 2: Blast Works was added! Was that a good game?

My picks: Blast Works, No More Heroes, Alien Syndrome (at that price it's nice), Nights, Dewy's Adventure.

Samurai Katana is trash I would highly recommend you to rent that but its bad.

Blastworks is... a nice little side-scrolling shooter that's beatable. I think you really have to dig into custoimizing your own stages, shot patterns, ships, etc. to get the full meat out of it though. If you don't do that then it feels like you bought a quirky 2D indie shooter.

Well Kai, you don't really need to make your own stages just go to www.blastworksdepot.com (http://www.blastworksdepot.com) and download away, plus you have 4 unlockable games sure those 4 unlockables maybe free PC games but its still a nice addition.

It was on my page for $27.99.  I just checked again and it's gone.  Weird.

I decided on Dewy's Adventure.  The video's made it look pretty fun. Runner-up was Alien Syndrome.
