Title: Podcast Reccomendations

Hey All, I'm fortunate enough to be able to listen to my ipod at work, and thus have a lot of time for podcasts. I was just curious what your favorites are so maybe we can all find some new shows we didn't know about. Obviously, Radio Free Nintendo goes w/o saying, but a few others I listen to are:
- This American Life - Radio show w/ random stories about Americans - Game Theory - Game podcast about the business side of the industry - ESPN Mike and Mike - Sports commentary - IGN Tech Fetish - A surprisingly well put together show about all things tech - Jardo's Electro Sessions - A two hour mix of electronica and funk - WNYC's Radio Lab - Radio show that investigates random questions about life.
Any suggestions?

Here's my weekly haul:
Player One Podcast - Ex-Ziff-Davis employees cover the latest and greatest in gaming.
Totally Rad Show - Revision3's big media coverage show. Movies, games, television, and comics.
GFW Radio - Some occasional discussion of PC gaming sandwiched by an hour of life lessons, LOST-talk, and anecdotes about meth-heads. Quality.
SModcast - Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier talk about what's new in their lives. Lots of potty-talk is involved.
Radio Free Nintendo: I keep up with what the boys are ranting about so that I can rant at them on AIM later.
Retronauts - Jeremy Parish, Scott Sharkey, and guests talk about ye games of olde.
1Up Yours - The big daddy gaming podcast.
Filmspotting - This is where I get my high-end film news. Very classy stuff.
Keith and the Girl - Comedian Keith Malley and his girlfriend Chemda are usually irate and rant-happy. Things follow.
iFanboy Pick of the Week Podcast / Video / Mini: An audio show dealing with weekly news, a long-form video show dealing with spotlights on works and people, and a daily mini-show giving you tips on what books to buy.
Diggnation - Alex Albrecht and Kevin Rose talk about the hottest stories on Digg, rarely sober.
That pretty much covers it.

But I echo his sentiments towards Retronauts (http://www.1up.com/do/minisite?cId=3156908). Unfortunately, they don't seem to have a very steady recording schedule, but they're always a blast to listen to.

My absolute favorite podcast is Dan Carlin's Hardcore History (http://www.dancarlin.com/hhpage1.asp). While some might consider history a pretty boring subject for a podcast, this guy's enthusiasm for the subject matter is very contagious. The only complaint that I have about the show is that it takes him a long time to get out new episodes.
Of the ones that are still available for free on his webpage, I'd recommend at least getting episode 11 on Winston Churchill. Other favorites are 10, 12, 16, and 17.

I'd like to revive God's Favorite Podcast.
However, the podcasts I listen to religiously are:
Studio 360 This American Life - Best Radio Show Ever Talk of the Nation Science Friday Fresh Air
I know all of these are real radio shows and all on NPR, but damn they are good.

I recommend Rats Collectibles podcast and Bim-dizzle (the site that replaced Rats collectibles) podcasts. We have 3 for rats collectibles and 1 for bim-dizzle but more on the way, I promise.

The only question I would have is what server would it be hosted on? The reason all the others are gone is because Odeo blew up.

Anyone give Game Theory a shot yet? Its a different spin on your usual video game podcast. They're out the next week (seeing as they're from the UK, they're on "Holiday" right now), but they'll be back before E3.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned RFN's brother, the super fantastic Radio Trivia.
My absolute favorite podcast is Dan Carlin's Hardcore History (http://www.dancarlin.com/hhpage1.asp). Surprised the Giant Bombcast hasn't been mentioned yet. Gerstmann and Davis put out a pretty good show. If you can get over Ryan Davis sounding exactly like Patton Oswalt.
Also have to recommend The Movie Blog Uncut, my favorite film-centric podcast. Comedian Doug Nagy makes this one a gem.
And finally, of course, anytime Penny Arcade puts out a new episode of Downloadable Content, it's pure gold. I've gotten some strange looks in the direction of my cubicle from irrepressible fits of laughter due to that show.

I used to watch Meet the Press every week. I'm still saddened that Tim Russert passed, he was one of a kind.
I've never listened to Washington Week though, I'll have to check that out.
It hasn't been the same since he left. They did a whole show with his friends talking about him and all them broke up and cried. That was hard to listen too especially on fathers day.
Tom Brokaw replaced him but i'm not really sure if that voice is good for that sort of thing. He sort of makes me sleep hearing him. I'll give it a few more shots before I decide to unsubscribe or not.

Yep, Brokaw was the "safe choice" in terms of an interim replacement, but he won't do long term. They need to find someone who can poke and prod better. Brokaw comes off a little apathetic in his interviews.
It would certainly make for a interesting show if Obermann took the seat...but ya...that'll never happen.

Count me among the Tim Russert-Meet the Press appreciators, I was absolutely shocked when the news broke of his sudden passing. I'd been catching the show on iTunes for the better part of the last year, and he did an outstanding job of moderating it.
In fairness to Tom Brokaw, he's only really done one proper edition of Meet the Press since being made interim moderator, and that was on the road at the governors convention rather than in the studio in Washington. He should be given time to hit his stride in filling such big shoes. Also he has one of the most rich and incredible sounding voices I've ever heard, I could listen to it all day.
As for podcast recommendations aside from Meet the Press, mine are as follows:
1up Yours Retronauts (almost always brilliant when they can manage to put one out, Sharkey and Parish are aural delights) ESPN Football Today with Jeremy Green - nice for football junkies (and people who love hearing the clip of Denny Green going bananas over and over again) The Bugle - satirical podcast with John Oliver, good if you like British humour and can take having the UK and US being made fun of merciliessly.

Cool, I'll have to check out the football podcast, I've been looking for a good one (currently I listen to Mike n Mike during the season)
I'll give the Bugle a listen too, as I'm a fan of some British humor (the original office). Speaking of, has anyone checked out Game Theory yet?? These guys can almost give Greg a run for his money. Its a different breed a video game podcasting w/ more of a high level view of the industry (Next Gen editors).

With the so many different shows out there I thought it'd be helpful to start a thread for some recommendations. Here's one show I just stumbled across with some potential but I haven't yet seen it. It appears to be created by some of the same folks from the 1up show and produced by Revision3. Check it out and post any other shows, gaming or non gaming you'd give a thumbs up to.

Mysterious Universe is a paranormal/science type show, with very high production quality and can be really fun and interesting to listen to. Highly recommended. They have a good free show, and if you like it a lot, you can pay $9 a month to get an extension on the regular show, plus a bonus ep on the weekends.
