How does the demo work? Is it limited to certain levels or does it just expire at some predefined time? Can you play online against people with the demo?

The demo is on the Wii Ware channel but it's invisible, you can only see it if someone invites you. Rat, whats your Wii Console friend code ?? I need it to send you a demo invite.

I don't know I think it is in the friend code list but I will have to look it up, I am away from my Wii right now. If you added segagamer12 when wii first came out, that is me.

Double check if you have my console code rat.
How it works is a special code gets sent to you with instructions how to get the demo once I can send it to you.

Guys if you want the demo PM me your console friend code and add my friend code as well other wise I can't send it. The demo is invisible and by friend invite only because you can only play people online via friend code.
Edit: I think you can only play with people online with the full version only when you have the demo but don't quote me on that one.

Well I'll probably be buying it pretty soon (Dr. Mario fan right here), so that should help out with the demo-only crowd, which I'm part of ATM.

Yes, I agree with you on that. I bought the game when I got home from work and played it for a few hours, even went online for a bit and when I was beating the snot out of people online in Classic Mode without even trying, it made me realized that I mega overplayed Dr. Mario and Dr. Mario 64 (actually it was mostly Dr. Mario 64). Flash Mode gave me more of a challenge.
I'm looking on Ebay to see if I can buy a copy of Dr. Mario 64. I already have the original Dr. Mario on the emulated Xbox.
If it wasn't for the original Dr. Mario, I would probably not be playing video games today. I remember that day back in 1990. It was my sixth birthday and I was sitting on my dad's lap and he handed me a present. I opened it and guess what it was? Yup, Dr. Mario. I wanted to play it right away, so my dad put it in and my twin sister and I grabbed the controllers and that's what sparked a relationship between Nintendo and I. After that, video games became a part of me. The irony about this was that my dad ended up getting addicted to this game and he always played it (well, it was the ONLY game he played). I did play against him from time to time.

@nickmitch: My boyfriend went through college with Tetris on GameBoy. @KDR_11k: I've never played R-Type, but Gradius is fun and challenging. My boyfriend loves both and he's got a Japanese version and American version of R-Type Final for the PS2 and he has Gradius Collection on his PSP and Gradius Galaxies for Gameboy Advance.
I'm going to be playing Dr. Mario Online Rx tonight when I get home from work. I do have the next two days off from work, so more than likely, I'll be playing them all day.

I love the new mode...using the Wiimote to play is awesome, and it adds alot of depth in combos. Setup a four color pill break and grab the second half of the pill and move it into tight situations.
Nice.

I'm not a big fan of Dr. Mario, but my girlfriend is, so I downloaded this for her. We've had a good time with it so far, and I especially like the Virus Buster mode. (The Brain Age 2 version was one of my favorite parts of that game.) I'll be trying online play tonight in preparation for my review.

Here's something odd... you can download both the demo and the full game.
I don't know why you'd want to do it, but you can...

I think its because the Wii treats the demo and the full game as two separate files Nintendo probably never implemented a demo to full version transition system. In the Wii system any digital file (except MP3s AAC and pictures) is 4 alpha numeric digits and no two file with the same 4 characters can exist(the Wii system doesn't append a extra character for duplicate filenames like a traditional file system).

So... lemme get this straight - say someone invites me to the demo... I download it, play against them and some other friends with the full version, after a week, decide I like it and want to buy the full version, I need to:
1.) Download the full version 2.) Re-register with a new Friend Code 3.) Send my new Friend Code to all my friends 4.) Re-register all my friend's Friend Codes 5.) Delete the demo version
Wha?

Wow. I am being hugely inconvinced, but I got to demo and play a game for a week for free. I hate you NINTENDO. Why did you let me demo a game for free.
Seriously, this problem is annoying, but not that big of a deal, the game is 10 dollars, if you want to play it full version online, just buy the game...if not, then demo it.
Title: Re: Dr. Mario Online RX
Post by: animecyberrat on May 28, 2008, 05:10:31 PM
it's easier for some to come across that extra $10 than others :(
I am content with the demo for now, even though I only have 1 friend registered.

It's not a problem for me, as I bought the game as soon as it was for sale and I was at home to buy it. But it seems silly to make it more of a pain to upgrade from the demo to the full version than necessary. I don't understand why the Demo version and the Full version can't just use the same save file that would allow them to access the same Friend list...
Title: Re: Dr. Mario Online RX
Post by: animecyberrat on May 28, 2008, 06:00:55 PM
maybe it has something to do with the file system they use, like someone said somewhere else, the demo and full version are two different games in the Wii's mind, so maybe the system just can't tell the difference.
Title: Re: Dr. Mario Online RX
Post by: Spak-Spang on May 28, 2008, 06:20:33 PM
I really don't like the friend code system for Nintendo...it is overly complicated. I understand the need to protect users, and create some kind of privacy for gamers playing online games and such...but the friend code system as is...sucks.
That said, complaining about *this* particular aspect of it...when Nintendo didn't have to allow a demo of Dr. Mario at all seems nitpicky. Nintendo gave you a demo to share with your friends, that is a really cool aspect of Wii Ware I never expected. So I personally won't complain about the re-entering of friends codes after the demo expires...now having to re-enter those friend codes for the 100th time on yet another full game, I will complain about.
I still haven't tried this game online. It is amazing this game feels much more difficult than Tetris, but in a way is simplier than tetris...
I never got into Dr. Mario when I was younger and it first came out...now I am crazy addicted to it.

Dr Mario is a lot better than Tetris I think. I do plan on eventually getting this game but for now the demo is all I have, and yeah like Spak said be thankful we even get a free demo, Nintendo could have just made it available for half off or not at all knowing them.

That's like saying people shouldn't complain about friend codes when Nintendo doesn't have to allow us to play online for free.
Yes, the demo aspect is awesome, but forcing us to re-enter Friend Codes as a bonus for giving them money seems kinda crappy. It wouldn't be so bad if it did something like Mario Kart where I can click a button and register someone's Friend Code after they send me a notice. Unfortunately, I have to open their message, copy down their Friend Code, close out the Message Board, launch Dr. Mario, go to the Friend Code menu and manually type it all in.
Now, imangine doing that all over again when you give Nintendo $10 for the full version.
It just seems very "unsimple" - and isn't making things easy what the Wii is supposed to be all about?
Title: Re: Dr. Mario Online RX
Post by: Mashiro on May 28, 2008, 09:18:12 PM
Wow a free demo from Nintendo . . . woopie.
It's backwards to have to re-enter in all the info after you play the demo version.
Why should we feel privileged about a free demo that lasts a week when other consoles have demos of all their downloadable games (for free) that lasts well until you decide to delete it from your system?
I agree with unclebob, the wii is supposed to be simple but this is as "unsimple' as it gets.
I guess it is a little unfair to bash the Wii and it's online service when the foundation that was put in place for it was simply flawed but yeah Nintendo still shouldn't be given a "free pass" on it's online problems just because of the old 'they didn't have to give us *insert feature here*' excuse.
I will be sure to check out Dr. Mario online sometime later this week but for now I want to see more impressions.

I am not defending the action, but to be fair, if you have been a Nintendo fan for as long as some of us you have come to expect a certain kind of behavior from Nintendo, so anything out of the ordinary for them can be seen as a good thing.

Title: Re: Dr. Mario Online RX
Post by: Spak-Spang on May 29, 2008, 01:31:46 PM
I stand by my original statement, it just seems nickpicky...and UncleBob it is completely different than your analogy...because one is complaining about the actual setup of friend codes in general...and the other is complaining about a specific detail of that network that applies to a limited case of Nintendo giving you a free game.
Now, to create a solution. Nintendo needs to just create a new channel...the friend channel. This channel manages your friends accounts for your Wii, and yes it will have parental controls.
This channel will allow you to check what friends for your Wii can do. Send you messages, play online games, voice chat...what not. Very simple options...then games can just access that channel and determine what options to give users of that game.

Hardcore users advocate an "open" anarchic internet experience where everything goes. This is almost like a PvP server in an MMO. That's all well and good, but there's no way in hell that you're going to appeal to most people on the market when you throw them into a PvP server.
When your mission is to appeal to fun-loving gamers from 2 to 92, including children, females, seniors, lapsed gamers, people who aren't competitive or power users or who have difficulty programming their VCRs, then you NEED another paradigm of online experience.
Nintendo doesn't have that paradigm yet. But they're working towards it. They're one of the few companies who are right now.

SS: I disagree. I'm not complaining about one aspect of Friend Codes. I'm complaining about the way Nintendo has set up the demo process. I don't care if it's user ID's, friend codes or what - I shouldn't be punished for giving Nintendo money. Having to resetup my entire contact list (and forcing everyone on my list to add me again) is punishment.
Title: Re: Dr. Mario Online RX

yeah when you put it that way unclebob makes more sense.
Title: Re: Dr. Mario Online RX
Post by: Spak-Spang on May 29, 2008, 04:31:05 PM
UncleBob: I do know where you are coming from. To me, the system sucks...if Nintendo would have made all games use the Wii Friend Code for games, and had a channel to manage individual members not per game, because that is too inconvenient...more like options say:
Online Play- NO, Limited No Chat, Limited Text Chat, Unlimited
Then when you add a friend you can manage that. Finally, if you have parental controls on, you can limit Mii Profiles to limited Online Play as well for all friends.
See, to me the problem with the Demo is not the Demo itself or re-entering the codes...it is a problem with the very system of friend codes. As it is codes are generated per game, and the demo and game are recognized as two different applications to the Wii. So to bitch about the demo and re-entering friend codes is pointless, because that is the system we got, and I am just thankful we have a demo. So basically, it is not like Nintendo could have changed the friend code process for the Demo and Doctor Mario without radically changing the Friend Code System setup to begin with.

Everything makes sense now.
Another factor I believe is the fact that my wife is an artist. She's able to spot color combos a lot faster than I. Tetris however, is another story, I always win at that!
