so the Mona Lisa is an artwork of an underaged girl and she must be burned and destroyed?

Yes I agree, let's ban the Mona Lisa.

So this is one of those "videogames corrupt the minds of kids" things again...Oh brother..

The one aspect of this that really makes me wonder is just where they could draw the line on what an "underage character" is...Does that mean in terms of looks?  That's impossible, considering, particularly in the Asian race, you can have a 20+ year old woman who looks underage...On the other hand, that's exactly what many games use as an escape: a lolita-esque character that is actually older than she looks...

So to really regulate this you'd need a committee that would "judge" how old a character in a game looks, and personally, that's pretty retarded.  And quite frankly, I don't think this will change anything in terms of the crime rate...And this is where we just fall back onto the parenting issue again...Parents, teach your kids what is right and what is wrong, and teach "potential victims" the damn basic guidelines of safety...

Nyan~

Parents, teach your kids the difference between loli, shota, and lolis who aren't actually loli, and women who aren't entirely women.

That's the first thing I'm teaching my kids.

They don't need to speak, if they're gonna speak to women who aren't entirely women.

I don't know the right answer to things like this.

They have examples of males giving up child porn for shotacon and lolicon, which is an obvious plus.  Making it illegal is tough because it couldn't regulated without more intervention into the internet.

I'm not interested fortunately, so it really doesn't effect me anyway.

YES, by christ they should ALL BE IN GAOL
what if I said I agree with this...
Then you are a good, honest man.

Did you guys actually read the end of the article? All they were calling for is
Quote
We wish to see enacted laws restricting the manufacture and sale of bishojo adult anime magazines, and bishojo adult anime simulation games.
So you can still have your 14 years old Asuka Langley, the sexual deviant. You can still have Miho or whatever the fucked up character is that ruins every episode of The Melancholy of Haruhi. You just can't put KIDS IN PORN.
And I think we can all agree that that is a good thing.

Internet porn lowered rape. (http://www.bloggernews.net/11366)

That could tie around to this issue.

since this is borderline political I will try and keep my comments as fair and balanced as I can, but I do not agree with that at all. Porn only feeds the hunger and it may satisfy some people, but it puts thoughts into others heads that they might otherwise not have had and that is not a good thing.

Now in response to the loli stuff, um does Sailor Moon fall under this category cuz I am pro Sailor Moon...

The essentially PROVED that was the case in that study though.

Another interesting piece is form Wikipedia:

Quote
Laws have been enacted to criminalize "obscene images of children, no matter how they are made," for inciting abuse.[35] An argument is that obscene fictional images portray children as sex objects, thereby contributing to child sexual abuse. This argument has been disputed by the claim that there is no scientific basis for that connection,[36] and that restricting sexual expression in drawings or animated games and videos might actually increase the rate of sexual crime by eliminating a harmless outlet for desires that could motivate crime.[9] This is exemplified in a case involving a man, from Virginia who, while arrested after viewing lolicon at a public library, asserted that he had quit collecting real child pornography and switched to lolicon.[37]

Stupid people will come up with stupid ideas regardless of whether they get inspiration from media or not.

I don't buy into those studies though, they can just as easily be rigged. Take the studies that link video game violence to real-world violence, who here buys those? Hey I admit I was a violent person, but long before I ever experienced a violent video game. So I don't think there is much of a link there.

I do think that there can be a link though from one to another, based mostly on my own experience and also taking into consideration that studies like these you have to question how honest the participants really were.

alright dude, but it is Stanford.

The interesting thing about the violent video games thing was the whole WWII problem, people would shoot people because they were uncomfortable.  However, if they put fake pictures for them to practice shooting at, it dramatically increased how often marines would shoot.

Well for me it is a cross between my political views, my personal experience and religious upbringing, all of which conflict with one another.

Let me explain myself, I am against the "porn" and the depiction of children in poses and media that could be arousing to adult men. I am not for regulating internet porn or even these video games in particular, on the basis that one man's sin is another mans pleasure. However I feel that in the interest of protecting children, pedophiles and child abuse being major issues and seam to be increasing in magnitude all the time, I am all for regulating certain aspects of any media which would or could lead to the harming of innocent children.

Like I said I have conflicting thoughts on this type of subject, for deeper reasons than I will say here, I am all for legislation banning anything that would harm a child, but I am also against the government interfering with ones right to do whatever they want in private, as long as it doesn't affect someone else. Don't worry Bill, I am just as confused as you.

The only way to see the world is to see everyone as sexeh (and flirt with) anything that walks.

Age isn't relevant. When you actually go and do something, it is.

In seriousness, I have to agree that this law is going to be nigh-impossible to enforce.

There are so many loopholes when it comes to fictional characters and their age that I can't imagine any progress ever being made.

The only thing that will change is that suddenly the noted ages of fictional sex objects will all jump 10 years but their appearances will not.
