Title: Video Blogging
Post by: decoyman on May 14, 2008, 11:29:09 AM
Hey, do any of you guys subscribe to any video blogs? I watch random ones off and on, and one regularly in particular (Brigitte Dale - she recently won some Yahoo "Internet Personality of the Year" award or something, and she's got a great style and is really funny too).
Well, seeing as I was looking for a good excuse to learn more about video editing, I decided to start up a video blog of my own. So far I only have two episodes (and the first one is actually more of a test - just me checking out transitions, style, effects, cuts, etc.), but more are in the pipeline as soon as I have a chance. Doing these is turning out to be really fun, actually!
I've put the link in my sig, but I'll also put it here (http://www.youtube.com/user/aaro79) (for those with sigs turned off). Go check them out, if you dare.

Oh my, how could I not have known this by now? Thank you, Roland, for helping me realize the twat-ishness of my ways. I'm quitting this instant.
And Caliban, I'm glad you kinda-sorta understand my plight. Thank you. For emphasis in my mind, I'm going to pretend that your spoiler-text hides an expletive, though.

Well, this video blog thread was utterly and completely hijacked by the guy who hates video blogs and thinks they're for twats, but I'm not giving up. I've posted another video. Click my sig link if you're curious, or check it out directly here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yW_sgOYbxKc)
The premise: "What is the best way to get to know someone; or, how do you gauge someone's true colors if you don't know them well?" My answer: watch him or her try to learn to snowboard.
P.S. - I should have learned this skill when I was much younger/smaller/lighter.

Heh, definitely. Now if I could just find it in-stock somewhere...

It is apparent that people aren't really interested in my video blogs, but like the headstrong, out-of-touch leader who doesn't listen to his consumers that Nintendo has taught me to be, I am posting to let you all know that I've done another.
It's here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok5kp1wfLYM)... "Observations on questionable Facebook ads, Maggie, and living alone for the first time in nearly 4 years."
This one has a different flavor. It's lime! You like lime? No? Then it's Strawberry. Yeah. We'll call it strawberry. Sweet with a little tanginess to it. Yeah, that's actually pretty spot on, I think.
This one is called "The Status Change" and it's some of my thoughts as I go through the process of divorce. Don't worry, though, it's not too emo, and it's funny in parts, so I don't think it should bring you down or whatever. At least it didn't bring me down making it... it actutally was kind of therapeutic.
P.S. - Thanks, Caliban, for the comments. I appreciate it :)

One last try. I've got two new videos since my last, responseless post above. :'( I really do think these are improving, slowly but surely.
#1. Summer + High School Reunion. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=3uObavIHqko) "How do I know it's summer? And what exactly is happening in a few weeks? Only one way to find out..." Featuring clips of the song, "Another Sunny Day," by Belle & Sebastian
#2. Bad Experiences at the Barber. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Wmue4USjCVw&feature=user) "What do Romulans, repetitive conversations, and off-center mohawks have in common?" Featuring clips of the song, "Hang On Little Tomato," by Pink Martini
Lastly, does anyone else do videos? Not necessarily a blog, but short skits or anything. I know RAB does, and wullfman's friend does, but are we the only ones? IT'S SO FREAKING FUN YOU GUYS, srsly. It's taken me away from video games, in fact! =o

I deal with video processing and codec research.
Only until recently did I get a nifty HD camcorder.

Come back inside and answer your Wii mail!
I was pretty much gone from NWR for the month of May. I didn't even see this post before.

My blue light hasn't lit up in months because of a Wiimail from a person. I turned off Brawl's notification feature, and a lot of the other notification features too, as it just got my hopes up that something cool had arrived :P

I capture scenes of Domestic Wildlife.

This term is blowing my mind. Domestic (wild)life, as in crazy parties thrown by middle-aged suburbanites? Or (domestic) wildlife, as in exotic animals that people keep as pets (alligators, leopards, etc.)?
On another note, so you can track your stats on YouTube, and I think I really do need some help. Specifically, help from the 35 and younger and male group. See, recently I saw my stats go from a good mix of various ages and genders to 75% of my views coming from people ages 55 and up, and 81% of my views are from women. I'm putting two and two together here, and deducing that I've somehow become popular with the elderly female demographic, and I have no idea how or why. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course - I like all people, no matter their age or gender!) So, you know, go watch my videos a bunch, ok, and repair the skew! I want balance, dang it!

You recently had a co-star that is in need of more screen time... the cat obviously. Why don't you become the relaxed videogame nerd. Errr I will stop giving stoopid ideas.

Maggie does have quite the personality... But wouldn't more kitty time skew my demographics even further towards elderly women? (pictures "crazy cat lady" doing YouTube search for "cute cats" and finding my videos with Maggie... then liking the videos, and posting them on her favorite cat message board, crazycatlady.com, and an on-slaught of epic proportions ensues from which I may never recover).
I think at some point, Maggie will be in another episode. And at some other point, I'll do an episode on video games. But up next (maybe) is taping my bike commute to work (yes, helmet cam and all), with the angle of, "See, biking as your primary mode of transportation is not only possible, but awesome." That may be this weekend or next week - whenever I can secure the camera to my helmet well enough that I don't have to worry about it falling off AND the weather decides to cooperate.

Yeah, I agree, you definitely don't want a crazy cat lady stalking you.
This bike adventure that you plan seems exciting.

Hey guys! I like Mario Party 8! I don't think it's been over-done at all! No one asks for them, but the fact of the matter is that they sell, for some inexplicable reason. I think there's an analogy to be made here.
Well, I just finished the bike adventure one. And I did one last week as well, but it's kind of a more serious one by its very nature. I'll list them out here. Oh, before that, though, the demographics have improved slightly (thanks!)... but elderly women still LOVE my videos. I am at a loss... maybe I'll just embrace it and do one on quilting for my next video.
• Father's Day (http://youtube.com/watch?v=PoL0N8rXO_A) "Drove to Omaha for Father's Day this weekend..." Featuring clips of the song, "Handkerchiefs," by the Winterpills
• The Bike Commuter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRJzVjXLWJE) "Together, Steed and I will conquer these sky-rocketing gas prices. Noble Cam has courageously stepped up to document our victory." Featuring clips of the songs, "The Enemy Guns," by Devotchka, and "Llegaste Tarde," by Los Amigos Invisibles
Ok, so should I keep updating here? Is there interest? Is it annoying? I'm kind of proud of these videos, and I put a ton of time into them... so maybe other people find them fun to watch too. But if not, I'll stop updating this post.
LET ME KNOW GUYS, K?

My latest video is of Maggie, so I thought I'd post it. I've done several others in the meantime, so if you want to watch them, just visit my YouTube page (http://youtube.com/user/aaro79).
• Climb (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72oV9v-ucaw) "That's no hill for a climber." Featuring a clip from "Journey Inwards" by LTJ Bukem.

So now what is the average age of your viewers since you've got a bigger variety of videos?
Maggie is a level 1 climber, noob. Ace Ventire would've been proud from such a bumpy road. American Gladiators playing ping-pong, hahaha. True story, my adam's apple got hit by the horizontal strike of a ping-pong racket and I lost my voice for a good few hours lol. Your city, town, or whatever it is, does it have bike lanes?

Hey, look at that, it's almost exactly equal - 51% women, 49% men. Age range is totally spread out (though again, my 65+ women are comprising a large portion again - that's what I get for putting up a couple of cat videos in the last month).
Responses, bullet-style! • She has successfully climbed the dresser twice now, so I awarded her the Climber Lv. 2 with special merit for successful repeat of a bizarre trick. • Bumpy roads ftw :P • Ouch dude, you've got to watch out for that! It hurts just thinking about having that happen :( • Yes, but not many. I was riding on the street, about to turn onto a street that is a bike route.

Level 2? Nice. Climbing trees, and the roof is her next mission. I'm kidding of course, but it certainly doesn't hurt her to practice some of those dormant primal cat skills. Oh darn, those grannies and their kitty lovin'. Age censorship should also be limited to ages above 35+, it should be an option though... I'm not kidding.
