Title: Nintendo Channel DS Demo Downloads
Post by: ShyGuy on May 12, 2008, 11:25:21 PM
So apparently the DS downloads that are offered on the Wii's Nintendo Channel are time exclusive. Already Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword is gone away. Act fast to check out the demos people!

I tried Spiderwick Chronicles and Iron Man today. Spiderwick is a RPG lite with turn based combat that has you draw attacks. Sorta boring and short. Iron Man was a bit better, it's a free roaming shmupr, that involves taking out targets to accomplish your mission.

Iron Man got crapped on in reviews.

I enjoyed the Iron Man demo.  However, I could see how the full game would get incredibly boring really fast.  It's basically just fly to point A, kill a bunch of stuff, fly to point B, kill a bunch of stuff, wash, rinse, repeat.

No, no, do a double take and you will see it is the 3rd party games that are timed, the Nintendo stuff do not have a date on them. Plus they added Brain Age 1 when before it only had Brain Age 2. (both of which I will be ignoring thank you very much.) wait which one has that DR. Mario mini game? I want that one.

Brain Age 2 has "Virus Buster," but I doubt that's in the demo.

I hope that Nintendo's adding of Brain Age foreshadows more demos of older games, such as (wait for it...) Elite Beat Agents.

I do think the timestamps on the 3rd Party games are a bit odd... makes it seem more like an ad. Still, cool that the Apollo Justice demo is up.

It wasn't Brain Age 2 was the demo I tried. Then I watched the video of the first game and decided they are not for me.

Why was Ninja Gaiden taken off so fast, never got to download and try it out.

Anything new this week, I haven't had time to check my Wii.

It's the same games that were up the first week (Ninja Gaiden, Cooking Mama, Jam With The Band, etc.).

It's not Jam With The Band, it is called Jam Sessions. Maxi it that create fun sentences. Not trying to be a picky bitch, just letting ya know.

Thanks for the correction.  I knew it was Jam something.

It's cool. I enjoy the demo just because I could use that to find stuff to recreate on my guitar. But it is a complete non-game, no scoring of any kind here.

I tried Raving Rabids, it was very shallow.

Actually it was just one mini game.  I played it three times.  It didn't get any better the second or third time.

I'm glad that Nintendo is rehosting demos periodically, but so far there have just been the two sets of demos with nothing new added.  Also, I find it strange that all the demos are for games that have already been released.  On the upside, it's very promising that we are seeing demos from these third-parties... shows that Nintendo has explained how to make demos to a wide array of companies.

I tried the Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emporer demo. Abysmal.

Arkanoids is up.  I played it and realized why I never like it, its a glorified version of Pong.  Boring.

Actually I'm pretty sure It's a glorified version of Breakout, not Pong.

I just beat the large word search in the Crosswords demo.  That thing took me 57 minutes to complete.  My brain felt like mush after completing it.  Anyone else beat it?

Yes. It was the first thing I used the DS download station for. I liked CrossworDS so much that I bought it as soon as it was out. I'm not sure I liked some of the clues or answers they use but on the whole, I'm quite happy with the game. Although the large puzzles haven't been unlocked yet and I don't know how long that will take to open them up. Why wouldn't Nintendo let you have access to all levels of puzzles? It's a non-game. Why am I working to unlock things?

FYI : The Incredible Hulk DS game blows, very very basic.

Wall*E wasn't that bad puzzle game with nice graphics

Kung Fu Panda- Meh it was ok combat with touch screen.

I didn't download the anagrams for Crosswords I'm not a fan of that

I agree about Hulk, it was very basic, and seemed to use 3D graphics in a 2D setting for no real reason

Wall*E was surprisingly good, if you like live action puzzle games it's worth checking out.

Contra 4 was really impressive and very difficult. I still need to buy this game.

The Ninja Gaiden DS demo is up, seems quite nice.

It's still the most recent. I'm not even checking it more than once a week at this rate.

Out of curiosity, what was included in the Contra 4 demo?  The entire first level (Jungle)?

Yeah, the first jungle level, but I keep dying before the end :(

Contra 4 starts with an exceptionally evil first level (though it stays hard overall), the old arcade Contras don't even compare.

I really think these demos (at least the 3rd party ones) are doing a poor job at representing what the games are about.  (With the exception of Contra 4)

The Hulk Demo was a training level so boring I felt not like the Hulk but like a a...I dunno something boring and dull.

The Kung Fu Panda demo was a training level that showed much promise...I like the control scheme for the most part...and it worked for a kids game, but I wanted to experience a level with actual platforming and combat going on at the same time...that would have been nice.

Cake Maker 2 was incredibly boring...how is that a full game?

I dunno what else I tried, but the developers need to think about making an actual level or perhaps the second level or something the demo, and not the intros or training stuff...because it just doesn't work.
