Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, abbreviated as SBCG4AP, will release as episodic content, like the Sam & Max games. Spanning five installments, the entire series should fit within the Wii’s internal storage, though no specific sizes have been finalized. Like Sam & Max, SBCG4AP is primarily a point-and-click adventure. Though the main game is goal-oriented, there are plenty of items in the environment that can be clicked on simply for humor and entertainment value. Though the environment is 3-D, SBCG4AP uses cel-shading to recreate the 2-D Flash animation look with impressive results.
A demo version of the first episode was playable at Nintendo’s Summit. In the story, Homestar Runner has become a fugitive wanted for indecent exposure. Strong Bad finds him sitting on his couch, refusing to move until he is allowed to go back into the public again. Strong Bad must figure out how to clear Homestar’s name so that he will leave his house. Throughout the adventure, Strong Bad offers his humorous commentary as players click on items and have him perform actions. At one point, he finds Homestar’s cell phone and uses it to make prank calls—even to himself.
Though players familiar with the Homestarrunner.com characters will be the most appreciative of the little cameos and in-jokes, SBCG4AP packs in plenty of humor that can be enjoyed by anyone. Characters from the Flash cartoon's universe like Homestar Runner, Strong Sad, Strong Mad, The Cheat, and even the King of Town all show up in the game starring their original voice actors
Strong Bad’s character is best known for comically answering weekly e-mails on his website. The essence of these e-mail based skits was recreated and can be accessed in the gamefrom Strong Bad’s computer (original found on the site were not used due to legal concerns). Strong Bad offers his classic and degrading commentary to those that e-mail him. These e-mails can also add new goals to the game, which themselves lead to new locations to explore.
Additionally, minigames such as Snake Boxer 5, which spoof Atari 2600-era games are playable within SBCG4AP. The view shifts to Strong Bad’s TV screen while he continues to interject his commentary throughout play. Control itself shifts to NES-style and Strong Bad can be seen pressing the buttons as the players do. Each episode will contain a new minigame, likely from the selection available on the Homestar Runner site.
Throughout the game, other little treats can be found. For example, Teen Girl Squad comic frames can be acquired and combined to form custom strips. Teen Girl Squad is Strong Bad’s comic where teen girls meet their untimely demise. After assembly, Strong Bad will verbally rate the quality of each custom strip.
Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People will be appreciated most by fans of Homestar Runner or Sam & Max, but offers a humorous experience for anyone. Rather than having me spoil all the finer details, it more fun to watch the game in action and listen to the dialog, so check out the video.
It blows my mind that this game exists, and that it's coming to my Wii. *big grin*
