isn't resident evil 0 a prequel to resident evil?
also, how does eternal darkness compare to resident evil?
i'm looking for a good title to try out as i've never played a horror game.

start with resident evil 1, starting with zero just wouldnt be the same cause zero is supposed to answer things people have always wondered about 1.
Eternal Darkness isnt like resident evil at all...

I have a question. If I play RE0 on easy mode, will I still get a full ending? If not, I will just start over... I've only used one herb till I got out of the train anyway. So far, I really enjoyed the game.

Start with Resident Evil I think. Playing RE0 first would kind of half assed spoil some things in Resident Evil. If you want my advice, the order would go like this.
(Btw, does anyone know when Code Veronica comes out? I haven't played it yet, and I am actually looking forward to it.)

On Easy Mode, you'll still get the full ending, but you won't be entitled to unlocking the hidden weapons (by beating the game fast) unless you play on at least Normal Difficulty.

I see, thanks for the reply.
I got both RE1 and RE0 for very cheap and just started playing 0 last night... Maybe I should stop playing 0(altough I don't want to) and play RE1 first...
I wondered about code:veronica too, will it be a remake or port?

I'd definately recomend starting with the REmake.

I would start with the REmake, but I would play 0 after 3 since 0 touches on some element found in those games also. (Possible SPoilers:
Like the scientist who would become the main bad guy in 2. Who "offed" him. Some of the lab you go through very near the end is part of the lab you go through in 2. I haven't played 3 but it happens during 2. But it still keeps the one question of who is Mr. X.

True. I forgot about Birkin for a moment. I guess in order of release would be the best idea. I still think you can do without CV though.

Star With The Best: Resident Evil 2.
If you like it, you can go play the sequels. If you don't like it, you can just abandon the series.

Actually I DID start with Resident Evil 2 on N64. It is a pretty kickass game, and doesn't really spoil anything from other games. I still think that the first game would be the logical starting point though. Although it is debatable, as IMO Resident Evil 2 is better. (But not the best. RE0 has that honor IMO)

Quote But it still keeps the one question of who is Mr. X.
Mr.X is a tyrant in a steel suit. I'm convinced that as Capcom developed the various RE games, they never did have a "complete" story. They just tried to make the story of a new game blend in with the old ones and hope things matched up. Actually you can find a HUGE Resident Evil story evalution at gamefaqs, it explains everything.
As for the order to play the games, I'd say play them in the order of release, so you never know less than the creators. This means get out your old PSX and play the original RE, RE2, and RE:Nemesis. If you do, you'll appreciate the remake of RE a lot more.

Yeah, you should probaly go through the series in order, but if you don't have all the games just do the REmake,0, then in order of release.

the remake rules all of the original .
if 2 was remade as 1 was then it would rock even mor.
start with one and waittill your alone and it's dark and late.

- Resident Evil (PSone/Saturn, laugh at the slow loading times, the live action FMV and the terrible dubbing job) - Resident Evil (GameCube) - Resident Evil 0 (GameCube) - Resident Evil 2 (PSone/N64/PC/Dreamcast/GameCube) - Resident Evil 3 (Psone/PC/Dreamcast/GameCube) - Resident Evil: CV (Dreamcast/PS2)
THEN - Resident Evil: Gun Survivor (PSone) For comedy value.
BAM!

I don't like drifting away from the original "STARS Team/mansion incident". RE0 and the Remake are the only ones I'll take seriously. Having a zombie outbreak in Raccoon City is going overboard, to me.

gotta drag this thread out from the archives...
i'm an RE newbie mostly.. i've known of the series for awhile, but never played it till REmake on the cube.. loved REmake.. but then i tried playing RE2... just couldn't get into it...
so my question is this: if i skipped RE2 and possibly RE3 as well, how much would i be missing storywise? especially leading up to RE4? is code veronica even coming to the cube? doesn't look like it is...
