Title: Possible PAL launch 'window'
Post by: blackfootsteps on February 25, 2008, 05:41:46 PM
Apparently in an interview Reggie said that Europe would get Brawl in autumn 08 due to production difficulties. This is also why Wii Fit and Mario Kart are being released earlier in Europe. So it seems that getting two games a week or so early is supposed to compensate for a 6 month delay, yep seems par for the course. I'm sorry but if Microsoft could get Halo 3 out simultaneously around the world then Nintendo should be able to do a better job then this.

The game will be released sometime during 200X.  That is, unless Dr. Wily takes over the world.

The production difficulties aren't to do with the game but with the hardware. I think Reggie's point was that they need to balance the big game releases with the availability of hardware. Releasing a big game in more then one region simultaneously would put a strain on the supply and demand of the consoles. By spreading out the releases of games between regions allows them to shift more consoles to a region where a big game is being released. This is why Wii Fit is coming out almost a month after the UK in the US and why there still is no release date for Mario Kart in the US. Games like Super Smash brothers and Mario Kart as well as Wii Fit will cause a surge in demand for the console which is already strained with the shortages since launch over a year ago. Nintendo has more or less implied that they are not prepared to build new factories to increase production as they don't want to run the risk of ending up with surplus consoles and production resources in the long term. This is something that probably is not going to change.

Yes because it makes the million of Wii owners and Nintendo consumers in Europe feel less left out and neglected to know that. I'm also willing to bet most people that would pick it up on launch already own a Wii anyway. Par for the course though. After a ridiculous delay for Super Paper Mario which eventually arrived with a special bonus game crashing glitch not found in the other versions I'm not sure why I'm surprised. This treatment of Europe is no longer acceptable and simply ino major publisher apart from Nintendo does this any more. It's not really a great game to import either as from what I understand the game defaults to its regional servers for random matches which mean laggy games for importers.

Hardware isn't an excuse. They did it before in the cube days when they had supply flowing out of their belly buttons.

Metroid Prime, 6 months.
Animal Crossing, 2 WHOLE YEARS.
Wario Ware Twisted, just plain never.

This is all strategic posturing on their part and nothing else.
