Very few of the creatures mentioned in the press release about this game are actually deadly to humans (being deadly to other pitiful little things doesn't count). I call shenanigans.

But you're not playing a human, so I'd say it's appropriate. Also, humans are enemies in it. It's all just commentary on the tyranny of man over the simple, peaceful murderous insects.

It is funny though to see how expectations of game length have changed. The game is supposedly 6-10 hrs and yet that is too short. The first 3 RE games were about that length and they were just fine. If the game is a solid and FUN 6hrs, I'll be happy.

Wow, this game is way cool. Experiencing the camera and the continuous environments reminds of playing Metroid Prime's early stages for the first time. I like the way the world moves as you crawl forward.
The idea of creating a Discovery Channel bug-scale survival horror action-adventures is paying off. Experiencing all these creepy critters as larger-than-real-life monsters creates a tense and sometimes frightening vibe.
Greatest February in all of gaming.

I picked up this game and am now in the second chapter. I am playing it on the hardest difficulty and so far its not that difficult. The gestures have been responsive, and it really is alot like Metroid Prime where you spend most of the time exploring and some fighting the other animals. The grubs are devious in that some are laid out in plain site to get you to move in that direction meanwhile there are others that are hiding closer to you or behind you. I have to be mindful to look all over before moving on to collect the obvious ones.
When you first boot the game, you can let it sit and watch a terrarium. I was so hoping that that's how the creatures look cause they are wonderfully rendered. They are streamed off the disk though as it was spinning constantly during that time. In game graphics are clean, nothing stand-out. Its like the real world only without dark shadows, difused lighting through out the levels. Not sure if its an artistic choice or an engine limitation.
You start off right away hearing Billy Bob and Dennis, but short little conversations. Part of the gallery is unlocked and there are interviews worth listening to.
I picked the game up at KMart. Walmart didn't have it yet. There were only two copies. If you are going to grab the game, do it quick. Honestly, it is worth the money.

I'm quite enjoying it as well. My wife has been watching me play and she laughs at the dialog from the two human characters - some of it is quite amusing. And the environments are quite astonishingly beautiful most of the time. (Examples: crawling through a casket and around the bones of a desicated corpse - and coming upon a crashed motorcycle and lost cell phone... just some beautiful touches which re-inforce the scale and add color to the game at the same time.)

I finally played this for several hours yesterday, no thanks to Indiana (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=27344.msg487488#msg487488) (the package from Delaware, as in "Hi, I'm in Delaware," got here first). This is definitely one of the most cinematic games I've ever seen. Combat is as varied as I want it to be, which is nice, although the combos aren't as interesting as their names imply, which is mildly disappointing. Having a few different variations on the scorpion's finishing moves would have been nice, too. Other than that, I have no complaints. It is kind of weird that the playable creatures have mutant powers that allow them to absorb enemy abilities for no apparent reason, but it's a video game. So, yeah. Incidentally, the scorpion is my favorite new video game action hero. He doesn't ask questions. He doesn't care about anything or anyone. You're just in his way, and he's going to mess you up.
And now for something not quite completely different.
I'm arachnophobic. When I was a kid, I had a Zoobooks subscription, and one of the magazines had an extreme closeup of a spider's face on the cover. I had to hold it by the edges because I couldn't touch that picture. I admit I've gotten a little better as I've grown up, but I'll still run for my life at the sight of a real world scorpion. Just last week, I saw spider and scorpion milking on Dirty Jobs, and I forced myself to watch without looking away. I made it through, but the usual anxiety was there throughout. Oddly enough, Deadly Creatures doesn't affect me at all. Maybe it's the control. Maybe it's the unrealistic powers and over the top finishing moves. Maybe it's video game therapy. I don't know, but I first noticed it while watching the trailers, and I like it.

I also saw the Dirty Jobs ep last week. The week before, I saw Bear Grylls eat a live scorpion, in HD. The face he makes when he bites into that stuff with his front teeth is priceless.
Oh, last week Bear ate a fresh snail. Fantastic.

Thats good to hear. I developed a slight arachnophobia when I was younger when I woke up every morning to find a big harry spider in my shower and it took forever to get out. I was worried that would give me an issue playing this game. I do pull my toes out from under any furniture instinctively when I watch the trailers though.

You all should watch Arachnophobia again. After seeing that movie I stayed out of my backyard for a year, thinking BIG BOBS would jump out of every bush I passed by. And when I tried to goto bed, all I could picture were hundreds of tarantulas on my walls.
That subsided after developing a fear of great white sharks.
I helped take care of my roommate's pet tarantula during freshmen year of college. The bug's name was "Kitty" and he was a cool bugger, I let him crawl laps up and down my arms.
So the next time you pass by a bush or a tree, picture BIG BOB jumping out at you.

*SHIVERS* Ah, Arachnophobia. I remember watching that once. Might be good for a rent sometime.
My sister's husband had two Tarantulas several years back when they were dating. One was named Rosie. I forgot the other ones name. One day Rosie broke down her divider wall and ate the other Tarantula. *pulls feet out from under desk at the thought of spiders*

I wanted to see Arachnophobia when it came out, but I didn't because I figured I'd never have peace of mind again. I think I'd probably like it, though. I guess my fear leads to fascination, as opposed to anger.
That subsided after developing a fear of great white sharks.
You're lucky that you have a limited number of fear slots, then. I've been developing a nice irrational fear of any body of water with lifeforms in it, and it hasn't had any impact on my other fears.
I helped take care of my roommate's pet tarantula during freshmen year of college. The bug's name was "Kitty" and he was a cool bugger, I let him crawl laps up and down my arms.
Okay, now that made my skin crawl a little bit.

Same thing happened to my sister except it was Pet Cemetery on DVD. She now has an irrational fear of dead people. Not zombie, just dead people. She's afraid she'll get up in the middle of the night at there will be a bunch of dead bodies chilling at her kitchen table drinking coffee together.

LOL No doubt. I wouldn't mind those dead folk as long as they remember to put the fucking sugar away! Or else it's motherfuckin' shotgun time!
The only real fear I have is being touched by something I'm not expecting. That's why I freak out if a spider's on my shoulder. Not because of the spider persay, but because it's all the sudden on my shoulder.
Also poison. I'm scared of being poisoned. Poisoning someone is such a bitch move; I hate it.

What's really scary in the water is stuff like box jellyfish. A creature big enough to squish or eat you without a thought, even on accident, is one thing. A creature too stupid not to kill you is something else entirely.

When I was playing Deadly Creatures I had this overwhelming creepy sensation of controlling a spider. I was full of joy. I'm not scared of bugs in general, although Arachnophobia did make me aware of spiders even more when I slipped my feet into my slippers, but not anymore because I grew out of that awareness. My phobia for deep waters (when I can't see the bottom) still remains though until this day.

What freaks me out about the ocean is the illusion of being able to see forever. It looks like an eternity of blue in ever direction, but the truth is anything can sneak up on you easily. That's just freaky. I don't have a fear of any particular sea creatures, really, but I'm unnerved by all that nothing hiding all those somethings.

It is funny water levels in games like Mario 64, Zelda etc freak me out but Endless Ocean didn't bother me. I guess I wasn't worried about something jumping out at me (though I did tense up when I went down the trench in Endless Ocean).
I'm actually not bothered too much by water levels in other games, but Endless Ocean I keep thinking a shark will eat me for some reason.
Though I was haunted by crazy dreams about the Ocarina water temple. Actually there is a funny story about that because my dream predicted a part of Twilight Princess before Wind Waker came out.
I was doing a run through of Ocarina and got all turned around on the water temple and ended up spending hours on it. I finally gave up in the middle of the night and had a crazy dream where I was fighting Gannondorf. I was fighting him when he called his horse and tried to run me over. Epona broke through the door and Gannon and myself had a mounted sword duel. I ended up killing his horse and he got mad and killed Epona. I then woke up all traumatized because my horse had died. A lot of it played out similar to Twilight Princess' final boss fights where you were using your horse. Strangely I saw nothing to do with the water temple even though it was that level's frustration that probably caused the dream.

A well accessorized women is at the top of my list of things I try to avoid. Of course, that makes navigating the mall a nightmare. Seriously though, with water the only thing you have to fear is drowning or being stung, but a women can cause long term physical, mental, psychological, and financial damage.
You've been warned! ;D

Thanks for not advertising the game.

Didn't we agree that VGchartz's numbers are un-official?
Though sad, I wouldn't count it out yet. It seems the game is selling based solely on word of mouth and good reviews from sites. The un-official sales charts puts it climbing slowly but surely.
THQ didn't advertise "de Blob" that much either, and it did 700,000 K.

But didn't de Blob have better reviews overall? I wonder if the big February Three (Overkill, Deadly and Tenchu) are cannibalizing each others sales since they are appealing to a pretty similar market.

Why are we freaking out about DC sales? It has sold 20k according to VGchartz, not to mention that we've seen MULTIPLE examples of Wii games having long legs in sales (COD: WaW anyone?).

Sorry, I guess I'm just a bit worried that these newer titles will fall through the cracks and well never get a chance at a good Wii 3rd party game again after this year.
*EDIT* Doesn't 0.02m equal 20,000 not 200,000?

Oops. Yes but even still CoD:WaW Wii sold around that.

Really? OK. I'll relax then. I guess I've had a doomsday scenario running through my mind where Tenchu, Deadly Creatures, Overkill, Madworld and Conduit all failed miserably. I'll not worry as much about it. Your right. Both Boom Blox and CoD:WoW are close to a million now.

Deadly Creatures is an interesting game. It needs some tuning here and there, and a better ending.
That ending was awful. I don't mean in regards to the ending itself, but the technical aspect of it. It just seemed like a compressed video stream was being displayed on my screen. Then there's that home brew special effect (the explosion), or at least it doesn't look like a pre-rendered special effect. I'm not saying the home brew special effects are a bad thing, it just didn't look and feel natural with how the game looks.

DC has been out for a month or so. If I remember right, people were freaking out because CoD:WaW was selling like crap on Wii/DS and that was combined with PS2 along with PC.
COMBINED it sold like 200k on PC/Wii/DS/PS2 at that time. I think the Wii version was around 30-50k around that time. It was DOOMSDAY then for the game on Wii, but now it seems really silly. Another game that has good legs is Wario Land: Shake It which didn't have a great first month but still has sold decently.
We'll just have to wait and see especially since the Wii is not only a unique system in how it is designed and the games it has, but also how they sell. VGchartz, from what I've seen, is usually within 50k of actual sales when you get below 300k or so. For larger estimates of 800k or more they can be off 100-200k in either direction. So really there is a good chance it has sold better then they are estimating, maybe even around 70-80k.

Scorpio-Bump!
Played about 3/4 of the way through this tonight with my cousin. Really enjoying it. Like it much better than madworld actually. The sense of exploration is fantastic and the animations are great. Controls are much better than I thought they would be. Does this game have anti-aliasing? because nothing really looks jaggy.

It's one of the most three-dee adventures I've seen lately (which way is UP? har-har WHO CARES). Way cool.
The game might have a softening filter. Much of the environments shy away from sharp, angular objects, and aims to present structures with seamless transitions, making harsh edges less noticeable.

The 3D in the game is really good; the level design in general seems to be well done. Most of the time you can follow the grubs to know which way to go. I like the fact that they keep introducing new enemies and features to the environment even though it is over half way finished.
The wrestling moves Scorpio and the Webslinger pull off are impressive. STAB THE MANTIS WITH HIS OWN CLAW

Not really surprising the game sold bad, but 20k for in ital month? Nearly cried--I didn't buy it myself but ending up renting it and even Hollywood employee asked me about the game. They had three copies and I'm the only one that even bothered to rent it and that was last week :(.

Tenchu didn't sell neither but it was at 40k. Overkill sold the best out of the three at 70K and it's european sales are at 90k which is Ok I guess.

I am really hoping that the Feb Three have decent legs. I already got Tenchu, and I'm hoping to get Deadly Creatures in the next month or two. Madworld is selling a bit better it seems. It's already equal to Deadly and Tenchu sales.

I think Madworld will be the most important title of them. It is a game that seems to have had a sizable budget behind it along with polish in addition to a solid marketing campaign. Conduit, of course, will be the ultimate test though depending on how the final product turns out.

It's almost like a song building to is crescendo. It started in February with Overkill, Deadly and Tenchu followed by Madworld in March and then culminating in June with Conduit.
It will be interesting to see how all of them will pan out down the road. If some of them fail and others flourish it will be defining the Wii's course for a long while methinks.

I'll tell you if Conduit doesn't do all that hot, you can almost forget many more new traditional style IPs. You may see franchise games still being released, but new IPs will be hard to find.

The Wii is anything but prepackaged. Some games failing, some games flourishing, is exactly what its new frontier of a market promises.

This game needs more hype. Go buy it or rent.
To entice the graphics whores: The graphics on the menu screen are probably the besting looking graphics on the Wii. Better than Galaxy. Better than Conduit.

Just finished the game. Very satisfying. Graphics are great, level design is good, sound is fantastic. The final levels are the huge and the best in the game. The story is simple but well done.
PROTIP: turn the motion sensitivity all the way up and the waggle controls are much better.

I'm playing through on the most difficult setting, having trouble getting past the two lizards with the scorpion. I can get one, but the game cheats or the camera goes wonky and I loose sight of the second lizard. Frustrating, but probably not so much on an easier setting.
