Title: Some info leaked?
Post by: that Baby guy on January 01, 2008, 06:51:45 PM
It appears that someone very accurately described the Dragoon update from a few days ago. However, person seems to have described the item on October 31st, well before the item was known to the public. At the same time, he named names of characters that would be in the game. All this happened on Gamefaqs, and in light of the Dragoon update, it seems the info this guy had may be real. Read the left half of the picture for the info, but it does contain character spoilers and general spoilers. I believe it's the truth, solely because of the Dragoon.

Mewtwo > Lucario... frankly I will be annoyed at this stage if Ness comes back, with Lucas in, and Mewtwo does not and is replaced by someone more "current".

Where's the proof that this isn't a doctored picture, though?
Can someone link to the actual thread where he mentioned the Dragoon on the 31st of Oct.?
Point is, give me 10 minutes and I'll have a picture of my own alleged posts where I say that some ATs will also be playable characters and that I reveal the stage editor and spectator mode back in May.

very true smash brother, one time some bitch of a girl posted a nerdy picture of me on livejournal to explain how nerdy i was to everyone else. She hotlinked it to my own server. So I altered the picture to appear as though she posted some story describing how much of a slut she was.

Great story there, Perm. I kind of agree with S_B, but it's not like we weren't going to take this with a grain of salt anyway or we have something else to talk about. I'll be happy if Ness is back, but Mewtwo being out is pretty lame. While Lucario would make a great character, Mewtwo just doesn't really need to be taken out, IMHO. A lot of this list seems to be things that people were hoping for/expecting, specifically the characters and Final Destination.

Actually the guy could have had insider info on just the Dragoon item but made up everything else. I mean, maybe the guy actually knew someone who does have insider info and all they told him was about the Dragoon item. After learning this then he could have just made up all the character predictions but then through in the part about Dragoon because that was the only thing he knew was true.
This way if the Dragoon item would ever be shown on the site, people would think he was right about everything. Even though the Dragoon item was the only thing he really knew about and everything else was just BS.
Of course one thing to remember everyone is if history repeats itself, we could be seeing the character roaster leaked any day now. After looking around it turns out the first leaks for Melee character list started happing about 20 days before the Japanese release date. Since Brawls is going to be released in Japan on the 24, this Friday will mark the 20 day period. So after this Friday anything is possible.
Of course that's IF history repeats itself. For all we know Sakurai might have hired special military mercenaries to make sure the final character list is kept secret. Anyone that tries to leak any info this time will be shot on site.

Not to mention that the information he/she posted is already expected to happen. Nothing new or earth shattering, really.

Bull, sheik never going to be playable again(why hide her if she was). and Final destination has been burn, shot, killed, raped, buried, and explody to nothingness by true gamers and fanboys

My friends theorized that Sheik might be an independently playable character, separate from the now TP-based Zelda. Sounds reasonable. It is weird that Zelda's moves still haven't been revealed at all.

The proof? I don't have direct proof, but apparently there was a giant fiasco when this happened, and the guy that posted it got banned from the site. At any rate, there isn't anyone over there who denies the date or anything like that, from what I've read. I was just browsing to see if there were any leaks when I came upon this.

Remember that all the rumor and speculation is surrounding just this image. Since it's all based off this image (as far as I've gathered), it's all based off of what is very likely exactly what Smash_Brother suggests it is: a nice-looking made up text job. If anyone can provide an actual thread on GameFAQs dated as this image is dated, I might consider believing it more. But without that, it's very suspect. Especially when you look at the text the person wrote.
All of the controversial "new" data is written in exact statements, with no equivocation. The hook (that is, the part that convinces readers that the "leak" is authentic) is written very vaguely and uses a lot of fluffy terms. "Apparently" it's from Kirby's Air Ride and "supposedly" it's a three part item. This extra information is super-specific, right? It invokes a wow response: "if he got that so exact way back in October, wow, he must be legit!"
The way I see it: The Dragoon Parts update is released and is the perfect hook to support this (startlingly convincing?) new gotcha. A user designs an image depicting a conversation from months ago in-moderation, adds a lot of exact responses to many of the more debated questions, adds the Dragoon Parts hook to convince people it's legit, and as an added bonus writes a bucketload of disclaimers at the top of his post to quell any notion that he's just another guy trying to get credit for having inside info. It defines him as the good guy trying to provide helpful information to the public standing up against The Man.
I never saw how the image first got posted but I am assuming that the original post included more of the mythos behind the image, setting up the back story people are now regurgitating every time it comes up.
I've watched a bit of the boards over there and I've noticed a lot more hostility towards the Moderation staff on GameFAQs. I think this image has convinced a lot of people it's true, but as an interesting side-effect it's soured a lot of people towards the moderation team. Even if it's made up, the absurd stance the moderator is taking in the image doesn't inspire much confidence in their decisions, does it?
But yes, the image was very well presented. If the hook was less noticeable I think I might have been convinced myself. What do you think?

Well, it does say that the message was deleted by a moderator.. But of course that could have been doctored too.
I wonder about the "Moderation ID" and all those minor details - are they the same as what would really display?

He says the mod staff deleted it, but I don't think they delete speculation.
If they were going to delete speculation, they'd have to delete pretty much every board for a game which has yet to be released.

It's clear BS. I could have made this, and have done similar things (DQ EXPLODES ONTO REVOLUTION!) and I can see all the signs

The topic was supposedly here, but was locked and hidden for some reason. http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=928518&topic=40411864
Not exactly "proof" though.

You know here is what is silly about these rumors is all of it is easy assumptions that we all imagined would be true, with the exception of a few.
Wolf: In the Game, well Star Fox needs a villian character in the game...and Wolf is the most likely, but it could also be very likely that he is an alternate costume for Fox, as it would only require like color swap, and a texture swap to make Fox look like Wolf. They could even slow him down in the alt-costume and handle doing clones that way.
Ganondorf returning, well really this was one of the most anticipated characters from Melee and biggest disappoints at the same time. Finally doing Ganondorf right just makes sense, and he is the best villian to represent the Zelda series for the game. He is in.
Captain Falcon Returning. Seeing as he is the main character from F-Zero series and been in every Smash Brothers game, why would he not be returning? The question is will we be getting another F-Zero character, and my hope is yes.
Lucario replacing Mewtwo, you know I have no idea about this...but Mewtwo is old hat. I don't think anybody really cares about that character anymore. It was cool thinking about an evil cloned Pokemon bent on distruction, and as such Mewtwo is the perfect villian character to represent the Pokemon series, but Lucario may be more popular now, and as a legendary Pokemon more interesting to play as.
NES: I don't know why everyone assumes NES is out because Lucas is in. I think there movesets are pretty different, and they could get even more different as NES could be redesigned. I think NES is a character people are fimilar with and associate with Smash Bros, and therefore should still be in the game.
Zelda turning into Shiek was always part of her design and character. It makes her unique and interesting. I just hope they continue that trend and I do not know why people would assume they would not.

Mewtwo was just a good character in melee, that it'd be a shame to just let him go to waste. That's the main thing I see with him. However, Lucario would be a slightly more relevant character.

I definitely agree with alot that you have to say Spak, but it has got me thinking what Sakurai is aiming for with SSBB. Does he want SSBB to totally obsolete SSBM? If so I imagine they will include nearly everyone from SSBM, however if not I can see him swapping out people like Ness for Lucas and Mewtwo for Lucario to give the game it's own identity while still preserving the integrity of SSBM. I think it largely depends on where Sakurai wants to go with SSBB, but I assume we will all know sometime within the month.

I think people might want to check this thread out:

It's a history of ALLL the SSBB rumors which have been surfacing over these past years. It shows just how much people love to make this crap up for their own amusement.

Mewtwo is still in the most seen of the theatrical movies, and had an OVA just about him as well. Plus Leaf Green and Fire Red were released not that long ago, and let's not forget that the Pokémon trainer in the game also uses the classic three, instead of the newer starters.
Also, for the record, Lucario is not a legendary Pokémon.
