"The level of demand we are facing complicates all of our future business planning," said Reggie in an interview with Reuters. Until supply and demand balance each other out, he said, "all of that becomes a much tougher exercise."
Though it's not contributing to Nintendo's plight as directly as the Wii, the Nintendo DS is also causing Nintendo a few minor supply issues. Reggie noted that "some retailers" were "voicing concerns about DS inventory" as the holiday period went on.
Reggie later commented on the retailer practice of offering the Wii console in a multi-game bundle, something he frowns upon. "Retailers have already been given feedback that we are not big fans of that," he said. "We think it masks some of the price advantage we have versus our competition and, frankly, the consumer should decide what they want."
When asked if Nintendo would threaten bundling retailers with fewer Wii shipments, Reggie made his position clear. "We don't have to remind retailers of the strength we have right now," he said. "We are simply making an observation and that reinforces our point quite nicely with retailers."
