Title: Club Nintendo Europe Begins Stars for Wii Points Program

Nintendo’s European site re-launch expands reward scheme to include trading for software purchases.

In a move foreshadowed by previous website tests, Nintendo of Europe has launched the Wii Points Card Shop alongside its redesigned website. This service facilitates the trading of stars, accumulated by registering Nintendo product purchases at www.nintendo-europe.com, for Wii points at a rate of four to one in denominations of 100, 300, 500 and 1000 points.

After linking your Wii Shop account to the email address associated with your Club Nintendo membership, purchasing a points “card" provides a code which can then be entered in the Wii Shop to obtain Wii points as with retail cards.

In addition to Wii points, the “Stars Catalog" of rewards also includes physical goods such as t-shirts, caps and toys along with downloadable gifts. However, the extensive library of PC wallpapers and ringtones included in previous incarnations of the catalog are no longer present in the new edition.

I just tried it. Looks like they're sold out! HOW THE F### DO YOU RUN OUT OF DIGITAL CODES??? As if a 4:1 rate of conversion wasn't bad enough already. Sheesh, would it have been too much to ask for a 1:1 or 2:1 rate? There's 250 stars per 50-60€ videogame, you're telling me that you can't afford giving the user 2.50€ worth of points for a f###ing 50€ game?

Well, at least we now have a way to get 100 points without buying a whole 2000 points card in a store...

Ouch. Sounds like it's not a good deal.

They just restocked the 300 point ones, I bought one to see what happens (the conversion rate is identical on all of them so it doesn't really matter what size of card you buy). They seriously give you a code and tell you to enter it on your Wii. Why the hell do you have to link your Wii to your account if you still have to copy the code? Well, at least it lets you give the code away as a gift I guess...

Of course, everyone's got thousands of saved-up points. If they keep restocking quckly (i.e. faster than they do with the stars catalogue) they should be able to maintain a steady supply. Then again, if you're going to keep the supply steady there would be no reason to limit it in first place, right?

After everyone spends their stars, NoE is going to put something awesome up for sale and no one will have the stars to buy it....

Meh, it'll either be 10000 stars or sold out in five minutes.

Agree whole heartedly but I've voiced my opinion on many occasions.

Nintendo of America is horrible.

I dont see how pretty much unlimited nintendo powers for the last 5 years
compares with entering 10wii games and getting 10US worth of wiipoints with NOE

entering 10wii games and getting 10US worth of wiipoints with NOE

I wish. You have to enter 16 to get the 10$ worth, with 10 you can only afford a 5$ card and a 1$ one (but you'll have 100 stars left over which almost buys you a third of a game guide in PDF format! hooray!).
