I do not see anything wrong with his choice. He apparently told his son not to, his son disobeyed and must now reap the consequences. He would be a bad father if he hadn't. Nothing good comes from deliberate disobedience.

I suppose I did not explain myself. I meant disobedience only for the sake of being disobedient, or for a pointless reason. There are overriding circumstances like the ones you mentioned, but "I wanted to get high" is not one of them.
