Title: What knowledge is needed for FF12 RW?

I was thinking about buying Final Fantasy 12 RW for the DS but as I have not played any of the games in the series, would it be too hard to jump into the game? Would I need to play older sequels to be able to understand the main storyline and plot?

Final Fantasies of different numbers are not connected, FF12 might be useful to understand RW though.

You don't need to have played Final Fantasy 12 to enjoy FF12: RW, it's not a direct sequel story continuation type of sequel. You would get more out of the game's mythos if you have played FF12 already.
