Title: I'm having a duplicate posting problems
Post by: theaveng on March 26, 2003, 05:32:35 AM
I post a message, click *once*, and then end up with 6 copies of the message. I have no idea what's wrong. But I do know this:
(1) This problem only exists at planetgamecube. It does not happen at n-philes, psxnation, lemon64, atariage, or xboxforums.net
(2) Following Rick's advice, I do not click refresh or multi-click my mouse. I click once and then wait.
Any ideas of why this is happening?

We need more information than that. What browser are you using? Do you hear any "clicking" noises coming from your browser when you submit a post?
There's clearly something else going on, since the number of multiple posts tends to be random, and doesn't happen at all times. It's definitely NOT a problem with the Forums, as I haven't seen this happening to anyone else.
If you're using any third-party add-ons, like pop-up stoppers or ad blockers, I highly suggest turning them off to find out if that is part of the problem.

I notice that when MSN has trouble connecting to PGC (it just sits there for a minute w/o transferring data), it results in duplicate posts. When the connection is solid without hesitation, then only one post appears.

Well, I can't really help you there. If your browser is re-submitting posts automatically due to connection problems, there's nothing I can do to fix that. You should see if there's some sort of setting in the MSN Explorer client that can be switched off. Other than that, perhaps using just the straight Internet Explorer client would help.

Just noting that I have seen the news bot post 4 copies of the same news item once. I don't know what's up with that.
PS: A link to another poster with a dupicate post problem. Considering the insane amount of safeguards you guys take against double posting, (It drives me nuts, because when my connection fails, I can't just hit resend...) I don't think it was user error.

It's good to know I'm not the only one with the duplicate posting problem.

Well I think it's safe to say that you have it the worst.
Ever think about using the Phoenix browser? It's pretty good you know. It hasn't given me any troubles with this forum... (well, no serious ones, and none that other users don't have.) It's only a 6MB download for Windows users too, so it shouldn't take an excessive amount of time to download, even with dialup.

I am using the last milestone release, as this forum was giving me troubles with the newest nightly build, but that was like a month ago. It might be fixed now.

Ahhh crap.... You know, atariage.com and n-philes.com have "Delete" buttons for users to delete their own messages. May I have that option for myself? Than I could delete my own duplicate messages. i.e. Clean up my own mess instead of relying on moderators.
As for Phoenix, I don't think the browser's the problem. I think it's MSN.

Yay!!! Finally worked. This new access number is a lot faster connection too. Maybe the other one is overloaded?

A couple of minutes ago I just had the same problem as well on the Other Systems board. It posted my reply like 6 times (many times, anyways). I haven't had this problem before on the new PGC forum or on any other forum either. It may have just been a fluke, but if it happens again, then I guess something is wrong with my posts as well.

I posted again last night, and the same duplicate posting thing happened again. Perhaps it was just that one time (connected to the internet). But I thought I should report it anyways.
