Title: Tomb Raider Anniversary
Post by: chaingunsofdoom on November 14, 2007, 06:28:01 PM
Bought the new Tomb Raider Anniversary game @ TRU today. C$39.99.
Played several hours (completed Peru) and it's been great. Controls take some getting used-to, but now things are going quite smoothly. Graphics look great (better than the GC TR: Legend release, but I have no idea how it stacks-up to the 360 version).
Only issue I have so far is with aiming. Sometimes you'll slam into a pole while some wolves/whatever are after you, and you'll be disoriented because the camera will be in an off position. I haven't died from it yet, but it's worth noting.
The added Wii controls are done really well. You can dust, trowel, pickaxe wall areas now for clues/bonus items. You move levers, cogs, etc. You also do motions during some cutscenes, which were unexpected but neat.
Overall a very solid game so far that's worth checking out.

Wait, you actually get to be an archaeologist in between all the action and breast physics? Sold!

I just picked this up today and I can confirm that it is definitely a solid offering. The new Wii controls don't feel tacked on at all (they actually make sense) and I think the graphics are very well done. If you're on the fence, I say grab it.

Yeah the Tomb Raider series since Legend has been pretty excellent. Though having the original creator back since that game has helped immensely.

Almost finished, and while the enemies are never too hard (and infrequent really), some of the rooms get downright nasty puzzle-wise.

Finished it yesterday. Some very good boss fights in the last level. My total game time was around 17 hours according to the save clock. Definitely worth the $39.

I finally had a chance to open this up and play it today, and to my surprise I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Yeah yeah, so I'm about 2 months late to the party. So sue me!
I tried Tomb Raider Legend for the GC but that game quickly put me to sleep. In contrast, I'm loving Anniversary's opening levels "Peru" and their design, they're quite fast-paced and the frequent checkpoints save me A LOT of hassle. The controls work and it's fun to get around, but I'm still always surprised when I pick up a tomb raider game and it's slower paced than I expect, the sort of comparison an FPS player might make when switching to the Metroid Prime series.
I ended up playing maybe 3 hours yesterday unintentionally, losing track of time! That's always a good sign!

Actually, I was talkin' about it two months ago but I just got around to starting it this past friday. I tackled the mansion before starting the main game. I'm still on the first level.

Haha, we're both on the same delayed schedule with this game aren't we Kenology?
Oy vey, my habits of buying waaaay too many games are in stark contrast to my suckage at said games, as well as a general lack of time to play them! As a result, I sometimes open up a new game several months old to discover that the game is really enjoyable... and I've completely missed the boat about when everyone else is talking about it!

Yeah man, I took this winter break to get my backlog under control. I'm finally tackling TRA and Fire Emblem. I'm gonna attempt to keep up with everything in '08 and not fall behind way like I did in '07.
