Title: Holiday Joy Effect
Post by: Karl Castaneda #2 on November 08, 2007, 11:30:40 PM
Ahoy there, forum-folk!

I don't know about you guys, but when the temperature starts to dip down, people start wearing coats and sweaters, and hot cocoa comes back into style, I can't help but start feeling great. It's like the weather itself is rejuvenating. I wake up in the morning feeling downright awesome, and go to bed feeling even better (especially if it's been a particularly good night. :laugh.

Anyway, they say a picture's worth a thousand words. I'm about to head off to breakfast and then class (Class at 9 AM! What other time of the year would this seem great?), and I snapped this one real quick on my iSight cam:

So I was wondering: does this happen to any of you?

What happened to shaving, you hippie?

Also, wasn't the podcast going to be on time this week? Or did I just miss it?

Check iTunes again in like five minutes. I must have fudged the RSS. As for when it'll be up on the site, later today.

EDIT: And done.

EDIT #2: Oh yeah! And as for shaving, if I can't be allowed a healthy gruffness, then this isn't America and the terrorists have won.

This happens to me in the spring, but not the winter.

I live in Indiana which possibly has the worst winter anywhere.

I suppose it's easy to enjoy dipping temperatures in Florida.  "It's getting below 70, Martha.  Better get out the snow tires."

Since my birthday and Christmas are both in December I used to really enjoy the end of the year... and then I'd hate the rest of winter as there was nothing to look forward to and it was just rainy, cold, dark and wet.  I much prefer spring and summer.  Winter is when it's dark when I leave for work and dark when I get off work so I can go whole days without seeing the sun.  That sucks.

And lately December hasn't been too hot either as the last few years really sucky sh!t has happened to bum me out.  Last December my grandma died and my girlfriend dumped me and my insane grandpa moved in which caused my family to almost have a nervous breakdown and the power went out for three days.  Let's get winter over with and bring back summer.

When I become a wealthy son-of-a-bitch, I am going to skip winter all together.

You look really, really smug.

Though I know what you're talking about. There's a certain crispness to mornings that's refreshing. I used to live in Canada, so I used to be less caught off guard by the cold, but I was recently talking wityh a dorm mate from Alaska and he agrees too.

Karl is emo.

Also, I am failing to see how the MASSIVE climate change that comes with the seasons in FLORIDA could have any effect on you.

Live in the north east.

No, I don't get that feeling.  See, we don't have "spring" or "fall."  It goes Summer > Winter > Summer.  We've had two incidents of a 40+ degree temperature swing in 24 hours in the last two weeks.

80 to 40.
warms back up for a few days
70 to 30 DURING THE DAY!  It was 60 or so at noon, it was 40 by 4 pm.

I used to live in Florida and man it was hilarious. Coming from NY the cold didn't bother me too much, but people there ... it killed them. Got to be about 50 and people busted out the heavy ass winter jackets. Cracked me up every winter.

One time the elementary school my brother went to called up and yelled at my mom for sending my brother to school in shorts and short sleeves on a 60 degree day. They demanded he have a jacket for the "freezing cold" weather and felt that she was being an "irresponsible" parent. Needless to say my mom laughed at them and hung up.

Karl if you think it's cold at this point already you need to get out of FL for a while and into some real cold weather.

I thought this thread was going to be about VC Secret Santa.

Karl, you're a handsome young man; your mom must be proud.

See, in Florida, anything below 80 seems like a miracle.  Heck, anything below 90 seems like a miracle.  We're happy because our clothes no longer get covered in sweat from walking outside five minutes.  It's amazing.

This time of year makes me happy, but I'd be happier if I was living in a place other than Florida. I like snow.

I get the same feeling whenever November rolls around. The best part is that I don't have to deal with the nasty weather since its always summer here!

However, once January rolls around happy feeling goes away...

For me, last Christmas morning started with a beer while reading the paper outside before the chaos that Christmas brings. That kind of sums up how the seasons change here - longer, warmer days.

You Americans can keep your White Christmas ideal with the carols and eggnog and all that jazz.

Pale: Your FACE is Emo.

Mr. Jack: I swear to GOD, ever since I mentioned that I'm enjoying the cold temperatures, whether it's here or on Facebook or on the street or whatever, EVERY SINGLE PERSON who's north of, like, South Carolina has been giving me crap about it. I don't live in your forsaken snow village where polar bears roam and people sleep inside the guts of animals like Luke Skywalker in Empire. It ranges from the low 30s to the mid-50s. That's chilly and pleasant.

thatguy: THANK YOU. Never thought I'd agree with a Gator, but I guess we'll have to save that rivalry for Thanksgiving week.

TVman: I don't doubt it. I live in what's practically a mouse hole.

Shift Key: Australia is like the island from LOST. It doesn't operate within the rules of nature. Thus Christmas in the summer. And don't give me that hemisphere crap. It's all a damn conspiracy.

I love the winter because it's my stay-home-and-relax-and-play-games time.  I love being warm and toasty inside my house while it's snowing outside, playing...stuff.  No pressure to go outside and make use of a beautiful day

Plus, there's nothing more relaxing to me than playing a little AC on the night of Christmas Eve

Knowing your town, you probably spend the entire night picking weeds... =3
