Title: Crysis on finite hardwares
Post by: ShyGuy on October 31, 2007, 07:42:53 PM
Finally downloaded the Crysis demo today. Runs pretty good on an 8500gt, with all the settings turned to low. Still looked decent too, although an 8800 would probably work much better.
Gameplay and environments are similar to Far Cry, very similar. The character models are pretty nice and the look of the armor doesn't bug me as much in game.
Anyone else try this?

For people looking for a newer video card for Crysis, there was a new super video card just released. The Nvidia Geforce 8800GT 512MB. It's more powerful then the 8800GTS 320MB($300) OR 640MB($400+) models and once prices settles down you should be able to pick it up for $200-$250. And there is going to be a 256MB version for less then $200. This move is kind of bad for nvidia in many ways because they just destroyed most of their lineup from the 8600GTS($150) up thru their top of the line 8800Ultra($750). If you take two 8800GT and SLI them, they have a huge performance difference(higher) compared to the 8800Ultra and you save almost $300. The 8400,8500,8600 series of cards are meh considering you can get a ATI Radeon X1950PRO for $135 shipped or for as low as $100 if you want to mess with rebates. And ATI X2000 Series mid to high end of cards suck badly anyway and the 8800GT just makes it worse. And their low end, again just get the X1950Pro.

Can't wait till I can build a new computer later this year. I was waiting for the 8800GT(256MB or 512MB) as my videocard unless something even better comes out. I'm still waiting on AMD's K10(duo or triple core) or Intel's 45nm Core2(duo/quad), which ever is better for the money. I'll most likely go with AMD because their motherboards on avg are cheaper for what you get unless the K10 under performances.

OMG, I just got done playing the game, it is GORGEOUS. Some parts look close to photo realistic (I have a Geforce 8800GTX). Not to mention the game is a lot of fun and it is good to see some great enemy AI along with realistic physics.

Great enemy AI.

Ok, for reals now &P.

It's like... saving private ryan... in reverse...

Except for the fact that there is a good chance videos are probably modified versions of the game. Really the AI is excellent and I didn't encounter ONE of those problems.

The third video (where the enemy soldiers drown themselves) has a comment where a player attests that it happens in the harder difficulties of the game.

I'll check it out, but so far I have found minimal flaws in the AI. Like Far Cry, it is well done.  Haven't tried getting them in the water though so I'll check that out (Dang gun boat out there shoots me).

I wish I had the sort of computer that would run this. T_T I'm not buying any new computer until I get out of college... and then maybe not even for a year after that. These things are ridiculously expensive!

I still need a faster computer so I can smooth out the jaggies a bit more in the game, right now I can run it at very high settings with minimal anti-aliasing and only 1024 x 768 resolution. Anymore it slows down too much.

Not to surprising.  A game like this for the computer tends to be made to grow into.

After reading some reviews I am actually excited for the game. It seems like while the AI has goofy glitches it is great overall, not to mention the sandbox style the game. Then you have the innovative difficulty settings that do more than adjust AI and damage, everything from changing enemy dialog from English to Korean, to limiting the accuracy of the binoculars.

Ancient bump!

The years have been kind to old man Crysis, I finally go the full game and my hardware is stronger. I'm enjoying it so far.

It's pretty fun and even on a 9800GT 512MB, with the patches you can crank it up pretty high in DX9. I do wish the Nano suit was alot more context sensitive, like as in when you grab a Korean and throw him, it should automatically activate strength, sprint is powered sprint, jumping higher by holding down jump for a moment. It's so fiddly switching from one power to another.

BTW, enjoy the Koreans while they last.

Yeah, switching power suit abilities is annoying, I usually leave it on shield. The stealth mode lasts such a short time it is basically useless so far.
